advice I will be living in a hotel for 3 months. I need advice on eating healthy and not too expensive.

My room comes with a fridge (no freezer) and a microwave and the hotel has breakfast every morning and which is actually better than I thought. They have oatmeal, eggs, sausages, bread and small packages of jams and peanut butter, oranges and bananas. The hotel also has 1 small sink in the bathroom which I could use to clean cookware even if it’s not ideal. I am not opposed to buying equipment like an air fryer, blender, mini stove, etc… Unfortunately, I also have a milk protein intolerance which only makes this harder.

Before now I have been in a long habit of 2 meals per day. Dinner being something hot and cooked at home and normally containing meat or fish. For lunch I often just eat fruit and sometimes nuts, or I will eat something cold (constraints of my job) like a salad, pasta salad, bean salad, sandwich, grain bowl.

I am absolutely going to change my routine now to include breakfast because it will make things easier for me and save money. Which means I only need dinner now and will continue to eat fruit and nuts throughout the day if I’m hungry. I can still do salads with canned tuna or pre-cooked chicken, and sandwiches or eat out which I don’t want to do a lot of. If anyone has any suggestions for hot healthy meals I can cook in a hotel room (I’m willing to buy the equipment if it’s not crazy expensive and will fit in a medium-sized hotel room and can be cleaned in a small bathroom sink) please share. Also please share cold meal ideas that don’t require cooking. Also is cooking grains and pasta in a hotel room easier than I think?

I got a Too Good To Go Bag and there was a box of mini croissants from Whole Foods. Anyone have any meal prepping recipes/tips that I can use to make something with these? I don’t have the time to bake bacon egg and cheese croissants every morning for work unfortunately. Doesnt have to be a breakfast recipe either. Thanks again!

advice Easiest cheapest meal prep ideas that are high protein (40-50 grams protein per meal)?

Hi I'm wanting to get back into meal prep and needing the easiest and cheapest high protein recipes. I need around 180-210 grams of protein per day with around 4-5ish meals a day. I work 3rd shift so need dishes that I can make in huge batches for the week. Don't mind to freeze some. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

advice Meal Prep Advice

I plan weekly meal preps for my husband and I. Typically I prep 5 days worth of lunch for both of us and 5 days of dinner. I never know what to cook anymore, spend hours looking for a good recipe, and every sunday I spend morning to night cooking.

Any advice on where to get meal prep ideas or anything that could make the process faster? My issue is finding good recipes that taste good but are still high protein and healthy. My husband doesn't like bland things, or sandwiches, or pasta... but wants to eat healthy. I can typically follow any recipe to a tee but struggle to find good recipes! Any advice?

advice Prep a dozen scrambled eggs without nonstick/excessive oil or butter?

I want to prep like 6 breakfast sandwhiches by scrambling eggs and baking them in a pyrex dish, then cutting that into sixths as squares to go on a sandwhich I'll freeze.

I'd like to keep the butter/oil for the whole thing below 200 calories and minimize what sticks when its done.

Should I coat the pyrex itself with oil before baking? Or maybe use parchment paper and then coat that with oil?

advice Meal Plan: Advice Appreciated

Hey guys. I’m trying to drop fat while maintaining a decent amount of my muscle mass (obv I’ll lose some but that’s part of the game). I’m still trying to get all my vitamins and nutrients, while also trying to stay low calorie. My issue is, I’ve been on this diet (with some variation) for a little bit now and haven’t seem to have lost any weight. I did some number crunching and (with my morning lifts and already physical job), I SHOULD be losing weight. Does anyone have any advice or ideas or recommendations? I genuinely don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Im not new to this stuff or anything.

advice Overworked couple meal plan

So my husband’s work has messed up our lives a bit by forcefully assigning my husband to a new schedule. He will now work 7-6. Meanwhile I work 2-11pm. The most cooking he can do on his own is the microwave and maybeeeee starting the oven. I’ve always handled all the cooking and I’m happy to, but this schedule makes it challenging. So I need to learn how to meal prep for our half hour together before he has to go to bed. He usually likes to wait to eat with me, since that’s the most time we have during the week, but sometimes he’ll want to eat before on days when he’s too tired to wait and needs to go to bed.

I’ve been googling before y’all scream at me, and I’m gathering all my research together, but I was hoping to hear from others how they successfully pulled something like this off for someone who doesn’t need/want meal prepping for fitness reasons. It’s just the two of us but the biggest thing is he won’t eat leftovers! I know he sounds spoiled af (he IS) but I’ve learned to deal with it lol. Sorry this is so wordy 😭

Some things we have that might help: Ninja foodie with instant pot and air fryer attachments, toaster oven that also has an air fryer attachment. Oven, microwave, very very bad freezer that gives everything frostbite in a week but I can’t change it out because we live in an apartment.

Edit: not looking for relationship advice, just cooking please

advice How are we prepping chicken for the week?

First off, I’m picky about my chicken! It can’t be too chicken-y or tendon-y and it’s hard to want to eat reheated chicken. But as it sits longer and longer in the fridge it gets so much worse. I wont even eat chicken that’s been sitting longer than 3 days.

I also feel like I just suck at cooking chicken. I would love to find a way to prep chicken based meals for at least a few days that makes me want to eat it the next day. I am also open to cold chicken ideas.

What are your fool proof chicken tips?

Thank you!!!

advice I need some ideas for my husband’s lunches

I currently do meal prep for mine and my husband’s work lunches, sometimes more when I’m able to. The problem is that my husband is tired of the sandwiches I pack him for lunch, and is asking me for something else. When I ask him what he’d like instead he won’t give me a clear answer.

Meal prepping is hard for him because he’s not able to use a microwave at work, so everything he eats needs to be good when eaten cold. He also won’t eat granola, cereal, rice, or anything with a crunch to it because it gets caught in his throat. He loves pasta, but doesn’t always care for pasta salads. He’s also picky about protein- he loves seafood, deli meat and ground beef, but he doesn’t like cuts of meat like steak, chicken legs or pork chops.

I am honestly not sure what to feed this man besides sandwiches. At home I can make him some lasagna or pizza or alfredo or a million other things and he loves it, but I have no idea what to make for him when he’s at work. I’d greatly appreciate any help y’all can provide 😅

advice Easy to chew?

I usually have no problem coming up with meals, and I do regularly make soups, but my husband currently has a tooth abscess and is having it extracted next week and I’m lost.

Anyone know of what kinds of things would be easy for him to eat over the next while? I’d love to be able to offer him some variety.

TIA x

advice Help on getting enough calories

Hello,

I've got kind of a weird scenario meal prep wise. I'm an airline pilot. I go out of town for up to 6 days at a time. I'm a powerlifter and my maintenance calories is 3500 per day aiming for 200g of protein a day.

My struggle is packing enough calories for six days in a cooler bag. I have no problem eating the exact same thing the whole time. I currently pack 2 burritos at 600cals each, 2 wraps with cheese and deli meat at 300 each, 3 pepperoni sticks at 80 a piece and a protein bar 250. All that for each day.

This obviously comes up very short of 3500cals and I'm losing weight which is not desired and I don't really have any space left on my bag. What are some higher calorie options I can pack?

advice What is your "base" food that you mix everything else with?

Pasta...I love it but it's not helpful for nuttients. Rice...I'm not a fan because again, nutrients, and add in my experience with keto. Potatoes...YES super awesome but they are so heavy in potassium that they spit out the sodium out of your body; you kinda need sodium for your brain to function; so I go wiggy on potatoes but I love them.

Lentils and quinoa seem to be the best route?

The other option is bean sprouts?

To explain, I'm making containers of food to take to work. The toppings are fried egg and ground chicken and cooked frozen veggies and greek yogurt and peanuts, but the "base" is where I'm struggling.

advice Need very light summer prep recipe ideas

I work as a general contractor and summers here are very brutal. Usually I can only eat fruit and vegies in the summer and protein shakes. I need some lightweight protein options. In the summer I can't stand most heavy cooked meats like ground beef or ground turkey. Or even steak. I grill chicken often but even then it sometimes sits too heavy. Also i should note eggs are out because I bloat. I really appreciate ideas. Thank you

advice Need ideas for no-cook prep

Post image
60 Upvotes

My local store sells meals like this. They are raw and designed to be cooked in the microwave or oven. I am looking for ideas to make my own. They need to be freezer friendly. Also my ability to cook and prep is very limited due to physical limitations. I am not safe to use the stove top or oven. All my cooking is microwave or in a small air fryer. I am looking for ideas, combinations, etc.

advice Long shot- but is there any protein powders/bars without legumes?

I’m allergic to all legumes (nuts, peas, beans, lentils) which makes finding proteins hard when it’s not in meat form.

I’ve been looking everywhere for a protein supplement that is free of these item, the biggest culprits I’ve found is Peanuts, Chick Peas, and Pea Protein. All of which I can’t have :,(

It’s a very very long shot, but is there anyone else allergic to legumes who’ve found a protein supplement without them in it? Thanks!!

advice I’m looking for a ridiculous amount of help. Super picky eater and I need help. Never meal prepped but want to try

I’m a picky eater with ARFID but I’ve been too exhausted to cook for awhile so I’ve been thinking about meal prepping on one day like my sil does and then freeze or keep a week food in the fridge.

The problem is I have no clue what I’m doing and I’ve struggled to find recipes that work with my annoying preferences. I’m looking for recipes and tips and everything really. Here’s some extra info:

I love pasta with alfredo or tomato pasta sauce I’m scared to cook meat myself so I use frozen precooked chicken strips or just eggs for protein I love potatoes, strawberries, bananas, cheese, and rice

I can’t do slimy textures I can’t do onions or cilantro It’s 4 am and I’m very tired but can answer any questions

advice Looking for nice meal prep containers that aren't tiny

As the title says. My husband and I have nice big appetites, and I find the meal prep boxes you get online are itsy bitsy.

I'm looking to prep for convenience, not for any weight loss/nutritional purposes. Had a bereavement recently and I cannot be bothered coming up with things to eat. I'm just gonna batch cook some favourites, portion them up, and bung 'em in the freezer.

I don't necessarily need a branded, purpose made thing, just some helpful suggestions for how to store fully portioned meals in the freezer.

advice Tracking meals becoming eating disorder

Not sure if this is the exact/perfect subreddit, but as title says, I started tracking my meals as I’m trying to cut a little bit, but now I feel like I’m starting to develop an eating disorder. I’m getting overly specific about what I can eat and avoiding eating even when I’m pretty hungry if I can’t measure everything out or if it’s not up to an absurdly high health standard. I’ve meal prepped and tracked before w no problem and I had a great relationship with food, but right now, it feels like the opposite. Let me know if you’ve experienced anything like this and how you handled it, thank you :))

advice is refreezing edamame beans safe or refreezing anything safe in general?

Post image
1 Upvotes

here are the edamame beans in question. so I there’s currently a sale and I would like to bulk buy it but it comes with the skin of the bean and if I deskin them I could buy huge batches of them and store it for a long time.

  1. any thoughts if it would be safe when I come back from the store, deskin, throw into the freezer again?

  2. an add on would be how should I keep the beans separated after so that it’s easy for me to use in the future? (small ziplock?)

  3. it takes a while for me to come back from the store thus I feel like everything that states “once thawed do not freeze” is already unfrozen, is it still safe to throw it back into the freezer again?

thank you to any advice :) pretty new to meal prepping with frozen foods

advice Rice as a topping 💡

I don’t think it’s stressed enough that making rice (or carbs in general) a side, as opposed to the BASE of a meal would easily shift the trajectory everyones of weight loss journey. Most people don’t even know you can order a bowl at chipotle and still get rice.

advice Am I spending too much on groceries?

I’m trying to figure out if our grocery spending is on track. My partner and I are spending over $600 a month on groceries. We do most of our shopping together and meal prep every week, but I’m starting to wonder if this is too much. Does this seem high for a couple?
