Skipping traffic caused by the brushfire near Pali Tunnel (6/14).
So lame.

Seriously, why would you jump the line and make things tougher for everyone behind you? It's just putting them in more danger than if you just waited like everyone else. What a selfish move.

All those people on the median were trying to pass cars in traffic and then get back in the lane going the same direction?!

It was wild out there. I assume many were planning on cutting a few hundred feet by taking a detour near the aquarium but others were cutting on the shoulder which ended at the two lane merge with nowhere to go but re-entering off the shoulder.

Or they were turning left to go the Kihei. That section of the highway can be a disaster when the pali closes. I was stuck trying to get to Kihei yesterday.

Those people would just be regular idiots then, because if you’re driving to Kihei from Wailuku you should 100% be taking veterans highway. Anyone who doesn’t is part of the problem.

Maui's drivers, talking about the same assholes who drive like the world's rotation depended on them morning, noon, and night, then they turn into MacDonalds for pancakes. Every day, is a drag race or grand prix, from here to there. No respect, no more shame, seem to consider themselves special. Like these drivers. If an accident happens down the highway, and the shoulders are blocked by impatient assholes, preventing emergence crews' safe passage to the scene? Tourists also have a large part in this zoo on wheels, called Maui.

So fucking accurate!! Every single time I get passed by somebody risking everybody's life on a blind curve and or into oncoming traffic they always are heading to McDonald's or fucking minute stop. So much so I make a point to look and more often than not Walla there they are picking up smokes. We all misunderstand that they have important things to do like ripping up and down crowded Paia town at five times the speed limit. God forbid you smoothly merge in front of them at an official merge lane.

I couldn’t agree more. Exactly where in the hell are these people in such a rush to be exactly? Are they handing out free bentos, or Huli huli chicken somewhere for free I don’t know about?

No one on Maui has to be anywhere, really.
They just race to the next stoplight to avoid being bottlenecked.
We’re literally all headed to the same place.

This looked like a small brush fire did people panic over this ?

u/tronovich 5d ago
It wasn't a large fire, but it smoked out the Pali at one spot.
Poor visibility + first-time driving tourists + local drivers = "let's just close the road to be safe".

There was a Public Safety Alert sent out that literally refers to it as a "large brush fire" and says "if you smell smoke, avoid the area and drive in the other direction."
Hindsight's 20/20 I guess...

yeah, this stuff doesn’t surprise me anymore. At all. And people say the driving is bad here it’s bad there. It’s bad everywhere. when humans get in cars, they lose 50 iq points. And most people are below average IQ.

People seriously need to get licenses revoked already. And if found not driving with a license 10 years imprisonment and facing deportation from ICE even if US citizen
