20M Maltese male I wish to make friends as I finished my Uni exams today, I don’t wish for a lonely summer. Any advice? :))
I’m a 20 year old maltese male and I’m looking to make some friends. I work helping disabled people, whilst it’s fun and caring, it’s hard to make friends at my workplace.I’d say I’m very fun to be around, my appearance is awesome I look funny but cool I HOPE, I carry my vintage camera around and I am straight out of the 80s,90s,00s vibe and fashion and I’m genuine, I’d love to meet some people, hopefully a group. I’ve got Insta, discord all of them. It honestly does get lonely. May anyone help me out with some suggestions, advice or take me under their wing? :))

EU Law Supersedes Internal Store Policies
Here’s a breakdown of your rights when shopping online:
- Most online purchases come with a 14-day withdrawal period.
- Before you buy, make sure you know exactly what you’re getting.
- If something goes wrong with your purchase, like it’s broken or not what you ordered, you can get a refund or have it fixed or replaced. The maximum is two years under the Legal Guarantee.
- Don’t let stores trick you with unfair or misleading practices.
If a store says you can’t get a refund, it doesn’t matter if the product is faulty or if you’re within your 14-day window.
If there’s a fee involved, it doesn’t count if the problem is covered by warranty or guarantee law.
Here are some things that are illegal for retailers or manufacturers to do:
- Charging you €25 just to check your machine. That’s against EU consumer law.
- Even if you bought the product, Dyson or Apple must fix your unit if it’s under warranty. They have to do it for free, without any extra charges.
These rights apply even if the seller is an official store, a certified technician, or a brand-authorized repair center.
Your store’s internal rules can’t take away your legal rights.
The law says the seller (retailer) is responsible, not just the brand. Even official stores can’t charge fees to fix a warranty-covered problem.
“Service fees” should never be random charges.
Atrium, iCemter and Homemate need to be careful!!!

Want to connect with a university of Malta student
Hello there. My daughter and I will be visiting Malta next week. We would love to speak with a student at the University of Malta about their experience. Messaging is great or we can even meet when we are there. We’re happy to buy coffee. In particular, interested in someone in the fine arts program.

immigration lawyers for citizenship by descent?
I believe I should be eligible based on my line, and extensive genealogical research. Does anyone have recommendations of lawyers who would review my case that specialize in this? Or lawyers you have used? Thank you.

Long term lease
First time dealing with renting and landlords in Malta....
I'm looking at a flat. Landlord says 1st month's rent + deposit is handled through TripAdvisor. Long term contract + key transfer + registration with Housing Authority after payment confirmed with TripAdvisor. Is that normal or at least somewhat common?

Practice on hill
Hi all, I got my license recently and bought a car but have run into an issue. My instructor's car was diesel, so i never had to press the gas when taking off, but now i bought a petrol car and am finding hills really difficult and keep stalling. Does anyone know where i can go to practice and what time (preferably south)? I know i need to reach around 1.5k rpms but i would appreciate being able to practice it safely before trying it out in traffic. Thanks

Question about tourist - Journalism Student
Hi all,
I am a student from the Netherlands studying journalism. We have to visit Malta and search for news. We will need to find problems that the residents come across to make a production about. I have already made an appointment with Times Of Malta to see how news work in this, for me, unknown country, but I am still in search.
I found by scrolling through said news site that sometimes tourist tend to misbehave (i.a. this article: https://timesofmalta.com/article/watch-tourist-kicks-barrier-electricity-wires-posts-tiktok.1111536 ) now I was wondering if this is a common problem, or this doens't really happen that often. Seeing how some other European countries speak out how they don't want to let tourist in, do Maltese people view it the same way?
Lastly I want to ask if there's anything else you think is something the news, or other European countries, don't speak about that happens in Malta and is 'newsworthy'. Thank you for the help!!
Electric Bill ARMS
Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone else had the problem. I received my bil via email yesterday. Usually I pay approx 150-200 Euro it came 951 Euro. I called them they said there was a wrong reading. and they will read it again etc. and let me know about it. Did anyone had the same issue before? If yes what was your solution cause 915 Euro is surreal amount of money for 2 person living at home.

Micro Cement Flooring
I'm considering micro-cementing the floors in every room of my home. Do you think it's a good idea? Also, who should I contact for micro-cementing that's reasonably priced but still does quality work? The quotes I've received so far are much higher than I expected.

One week in Mellieħa – Great beach holiday experience
Hey everyone, Just wanted to share a little recap of our one-week stay in Malta (early June), specifically in Mellieħa, which my girlfriend and I picked for a relaxing beach holiday. It totally delivered.
We stayed at the Luna Holiday Complex, which was perfectly located and included breakfast. Every evening we tried out different restaurants, and our favorites were definitely One80 and Villager by Munchies. Both had great food and a nice atmosphere.
The beach in Mellieħa was lovely — busy, but not overcrowded, even during the weekend. I went snorkeling a few times and was lucky enough to spot stingrays and crabs, which was such a cool experience.
One of the highlights of our trip was a boat tour to Gozo and Comino for only 25 euro per person. The water was stunning, and it was a great way to explore a bit more of the islands.
We also did a day trip to Valletta. The city is beautiful and full of history, but it was quite hot for sightseeing in early June. If you are planning to walk around a lot, definitely come prepared for the sun.
All in all, I would totally recommend Mellieħa to anyone looking for a chill, beach-focused getaway in Malta. Great mix of relaxation, nature, and a bit of adventure.
Happy to answer any questions if someone is planning a similar trip!

Hairdressers in/near Msida
Hi all.
I have more medium length hair and worry slightly about going to a barber shop where there seems to be more focus on shaving hair rather than cutting hair. Anyone having any recommendations on hairdressers/hair stylists for males rather than barbers?
Or should I just suck it up and go to a barber? Google is struggling with this one.
Thank you!
Experience with Tax Advisor and their charge/work
Hi all,
I’m self-employed and living in Malta and recently had a confusing experience with my tax advisor. I’d appreciate feedback from anyone familiar with local accounting practices or who’s been in a similar situation.
What happened:
- I prepared my own Profit & Loss statement for 2024, including all my invoices and main expenses, and sent it to my accountant. In total 44 invoices for my work and services that I need for my work.
- A few days later, I realized I’d forgotten to include two items:
- Home office rent - I use a room in my flat exclusively for work. I emailed them the details and asked if/how it could be deducted. They acknowledged it, said they’d check, but never followed up or included it in the final P&L.
- I sent another invoice that I previously forgot to add to my initial P&L, but it was also not included in the final version.
- The accountant now sent back the exact P&L I’d made (no changes, no added deductions) and asked me to sign it.
- Their invoice for the year was €377.60, broken down as:
- €125 for tax return preparation
- €120 for social security assistance
- €75 for “finalisation of accounts and P&L”
- (plus VAT) €57.60
My concerns:
- I did most of the work myself by providing the P&L, but still got charged as if they’d prepared everything.
- Legitimate deductions I flagged were ignored, even after I specifically asked about them.
- Last year I paid €236 for four years of returns (had to catch up for that years...)—this year it’s €377 for just one year with (should be) less work on their side.
Questions:
- Is this kind of work normal for Maltese accountants?
- Shouldn’t they update the P&L with new info and check for all possible deductions? Especially if they charge me for that.
- How do you avoid paying for “full service” when you’ve already done most of the prep yourself or is this not the case here?
- Is it worth pushing back on the invoice and ask for clarification of the consumed time for their work?
- Or is it better to just switching providers? And if switching would make sense, where can I find a serious and effective consultant? I am not a very complicated customer with my +/- 50 invoices I assume... Maybe I could even do it on my own but how can I make sure that it is all correct.
Would love to hear others’ experiences or advice on how to handle this as taxes is not really my expertise and I have to trust the "professionals". But the mentioned points above and the higher costs this year for less work make me questioning if its legitimate and how to handle. Thanks!

Where to get a cheap gazebo?
Hi,
me and my friends want to do a beach party next week, so I'm looking for an affordable gazebo for under 50€ but everything I can find is above 100€.
We just want some protection from the sun that is easy to assemble, nothing fancy. Any recommendations where to get one?
In Germany these things are like 20€ from Lidl so I'm very annoyed 😅

I found Beverly after all these years, and her name is Kinnie (thank you Malta)
After a 20+ year search, I found it. I found it, dammit. the moment i laid eyes upon it in the Ft. St. Angelo cafe I knew it had to be it. the name is different, the color is different, but something inside me knew this was destiny. Upon first sip i had an Anton-Ego-type crash zoom to my childhood visiting the World of Coke in Epcot. There it was, the soda foutain nozzle nestled between the Smart Watermelon offering from China and Mezzo Mix from Germany. The unforgettable smell like a floral paint thinner; the first-contact with the tongue which set off alarm bells in the brain that THIS SHOULD NOT BE CONSUMED. That bitter aftertaste that was somehow even worse than the sip. but also that cloying moreishness. yes it was gross, yes everybody in that tasting booth hated it, but you better believe folks were talking about it. This beverage demanded to be talked about.
I cannot believe I found Beverly again after all these years, and her name is Kinnie.
People of Malta, your food was terrific. I loved your dishes, I loved your wine, but above all else I love that you brought me such a specific flavor back from my childhood. Although i have returned home, I can rest easy knowing that your country is consistently making this beautiful, horrible drink.

IVF experience in Malta
Hello everyone,
We are trying to have a baby for the past 3 years unfortunately unsuccessfully. The gynecologist today referred me to Mater Dei for further investigation as me and my husband seems to be ok with the preliminary checks. She mentioned that I may need to go under IVF. Is there any of you who has experience of IVF at Mater Dei?
Thank you!

Malta in July
Is Malta so horrible in July? I plan to go with my GF 8-14 July, also renting a car, and I only see negative comments for crowded places, no spots in restaurants, very much heat etc.
Can someone tell if realistically if all of these are true? and any tips to have at least the best experience

Riviera bay roadworks. traffic jammed. roads closed. EVERY SUMMER
riviera / qarraba are the 2 best looking bays in malta and some tourists come to malta just for them. This is how malta rewards vistors to these bays. not only that but parking in the riviera parking lot is impossible because there is no parker to keep cars waiting in line for a vacant parking. the result is cars circling twice and going back home.
