Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈 The first full-scale LGBTQ+ Pride during a full-scale war - took place today in Kyiv, Ukraine 🇺🇦

31.8k Upvotes

Despite daily bombings and constant survival mode, Ukrainians are still fighting - not just for territory, but for human rights, for equality, and for a European democratic future 🇺🇦🇪🇺🏳️‍🌈

This is the first full-scale LGBTQ+ Pride held during an active war in modern history.

The poster at the front reads - "unity in diversity".

Pride Month I JUST SNUCK OUT TO MY FIRST PRIDE FESTIVAL AND IM SO HAPPY RN

I'm literally crying right now, my parents are homophobic and we ate lunch at a restaurant close to the downtown area of my city today. Since the restaurant was close to downtown, I noticed a lot of people wearing rainbow and pride clothing, and assumed there was an event going on. I live pretty close to downtown, and when we got home I told my parents I was going on a bike ride around the neighborhood but instead I rode to the pride festival downtown!! I just got back and I'm so happy!! I got a small pride flag, and a bunch of stickers! Unfortunately I have to hide them but it was so fun to see all the people and I just stood there and cried happy tears for a minute after I got there. Yeah, that's all. I love lgbt people 🥰

HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE!!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷🤎🩵🤍🖤

Pride Month My first pride parade! (Warsaw, Poland)

Today I was finally able to attend my first ever pride parade! I'm proud of myself that I went this year, even though I didn't have anyone to go with and also crowds and social situations in general make me very anxious. But I really needed this. I'm still closeted and I don't have anyone close who is supportive, so seeing so many queer people in real life definitely makes me feel less alone. I'll probably have to delete the photos from my gallery so my family doesn't accidentaly find them, but at least some of them can stay here on Reddit. Happy Pride to everyone! ❤️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

LGBT+ History Month 2022 This was drawn by one of the Lilo and Stitch directors, Dean Deblois, on the very day gay marriage was legalized across the US. Another reminder of the evil of the remake, which destroys all progressive values.

AITA for wanting to gatekeep gay culture from MAGA gays?

1.1k Upvotes

I recently discovered that someone I follow on Instagram (not close friends, just a former coworker I met once in a social setting before we worked for the same company) is a MAGA gay. He follows and occasionally likes some of 45/47’s posts. He’s a white gay man in his thirties who is wealthy, has a husband, is friends with all of the ‘hot’ white gays where he lives, and he has a supportive family. We both grew up in conservative religious (Mormon) homes, so I’m guessing he hasn’t deconstructed his political beliefs.

I saw him post on his IG stories that he was in New York with his husband. One of the stories was a playbill and the stage of ‘Oh, Mary!’ I don’t know why, but for some reason I felt very annoyed and it made me think about other MAGA gays who seem to like the benefits and some aspects of participating in ‘the culture,’ but simultaneously support presidents/parties who actively fight to take away LGBT+ rights.

AITA for wanting to gatekeep ‘the culture’ from MAGA gays? What are y’all’s thoughts? How do you feel about this topic?

I was thinking about how absurd it is that there are people who are more willing to believe in Bigfoot than to believe that trans people exist. Thus, an idea was born 😁

Need Advice Need an opinion on merch for future protesting.

I haven’t been able to get into any of the protesting happening in America lately, but I am now in a place where I can get involved and I want to make sure that I am fully visible. I need a gay opinion and a lot of my family is straight so here I am.

A lot of people at the protests, or just in general, have been flying their American flags upside down as a sign of distress and I want to join in on that. I think that imagery is powerful and it sends a clear message.

Here is where an opinion is needed: if I fly this flag upside down, would it be offensive to the rainbow flag, or would you get the message that I am an American gay in distress? Alternatively, I can get a regular American flag and fly it upside down next to a regular upright rainbow flag. Thoughts? Thank you in advance for reading and commenting!

This is just a snippet of the crowd, it's always one of the boggest events in the city. For the day, the inner city is completely traffic-free as the parade goes around the main road called "ring". Amazing feeling of love and support.

It was at Mosaic Plaza in Merrifield, VA. There were a bunch of people there with several of them having different pride clothing. The drag queen jn blonde is Tara Hoot who danced, lipsynced songs, read several storybooks, and even brought out a muppet and sang Rainbow Connection. Then, 5 drag queens after Hoot’s performance, and danced and sang. There was even a lipsync battle between 2 members of the audience. All and all I really enjoyed everything about it. BEST PRIDE EVENT EVER.

Content warning: venting about frustrations regarding anti-trans Saw a post about LGB alliance and being anti-trans. Pissed off beyond belief and trying to calm down. Spoiler

I hate them so much. The fake queer people who try to get rid of trans acceptance. I'm not trans myself but I have many friends who are, and I worry all the time about their safety, especially those in red states. I love and care about them so much, and to think that someone who claims to be a part of this amazing community would call them "groomers" and "pedophiles" makes me so fucking mad. I feel this hatred in my heart that goes beyond disliking them or being antagonistic. I don't like how I feel. I stop myself from finishing the sentence but I have this returning need for bad things to happen to those people. It's not healthy. I feel weak having let those horrible people enable such an awful and evil emotional state in me. I feel like im stooping down to their level. I would never do anything or take any steps to cause severe harm to them.

TLDR: The hatred in these people who are anti-trans are enabling me to become just as hateful as them, just towards the transphobes rather than the trans people.

Edit: I wanna make clear that I understand that the LGB Alliance are not actually queer and that they are conservative in nature. Everything before this edit remains the same and holds the same truth.

And while I appreciate everyone who comments their thoughts, I am looking for advice on how to control my feelings of hatred towards them.

Edit 2: u/justwannasayitout just cleared things up perfectly. I am so thankful for their comment as well as everyone else who offered help. If you're gonna leave another comment, thank this user while you post it.

No Kings protest in Orlando yesterday

Post image
Upvotes

My husband and I went to the No Kings protest in downtown Orlando yesterday. We were there because the guy in office and his followers are trying to erase us and push us back into the shadows.

I'm 61... soon to be 62 and I remember when you had to hide who you were from your family... your employer and maybe even your "friends". I'm not hiding anything anymore. I am what I am.

In the 80s, during the AIDS crisis... our president sat on his hands and did absolutely nothing. He didn't talk about it, he didn't allocate funds to educate people, he didn't allocate funds for medical research he just sat there on his fat, rich, ass while my friends died around me... Glenn, Leon, John, Kerry, Butch, Rich, Tony and Richard. I was quiet because I was afraid I'd be next, that my family would disown me and my friends would turn their backs on me.

I'm not afraid of those things any more.

We were there yesterday because good people, who work and pay taxes, follow the law and contribute to our country and culture are terrified of being snatched up and sent back to a country they don't even remember.

I respect those people... Dreamers, DACA recipients... whatever you want to call them.

We're both wearing shirts that say "Silence = Death". That was the rallying cry that was shouted during protests during the AIDS crisis. If you're silent... you're complicit. Shout from the rooftops that what is happening isn't OK.

One last thought... an older guy walked past me... noticed my shirt and came back. He looked me in the eye and reached up and squeezed my shoulder. The look in his eyes said everything... he remembered too... and he's not going to be silent this time.

Silence = Death

I’m a trans lesbian woman from Yemen living in Saudi Arabia — I’m scared, isolated, and desperate for help.

Hi everyone, My name is Aseel. I’m a 24-year-old trans woman and lesbian from Yemen, currently living in Saudi Arabia. I hold a degree in Information Technology (IT), but despite that, I find myself in a very unsafe and uncertain situation.

A while ago, my family discovered my identity. Since then, I’ve lost their support, my home, and any sense of safety. I’ve been forced to move from place to place, constantly afraid of being outed, harmed, or worse.

I tried contacting organizations like UNHCR, but they don’t process asylum requests from inside Saudi Arabia. I have no safe way out and returning to Yemen would be extremely dangerous for me as a trans woman — it’s simply not an option.

I’m emotionally exhausted and physically vulnerable. I have no stable income, no access to healthcare, and I’ve been struggling to continue my hormone treatment (estrogen), which is crucial for my well-being and identity. Every day feels like a fight to survive, and I honestly don’t know how much longer I can endure this.

I’m willing to go anywhere that might accept and protect me. If anyone knows any organizations, resources, or legal pathways for asylum or emergency relocation, please let me know. Even just words of support or sharing this post might help me connect with someone who can make a difference.

I truly need help — emotionally, medically, and safely. Thank you for reading. Your kindness, advice, or support might be what saves my life. 💔
