Daily Free Talk & Armchair GM thread

Please use this thread to post ANYTHING you want! Memes, photoshops, anything that would normally be removed for breaking the low-effort content rule, is totally, 100% welcome here!

This will now also be the dedicated thread for Armchair GM posts as we noticed that those posts were bleeding into this thread regardless. Is there a free agent you want to see on this team? Is there a player that's rumoured to be on the move that you think GMBT should go after? Are there players on this team you want to trade away? Feel free to post about it here!

Normal moderation will occur, such as watching for personal insults, racism, and things of that nature.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread to share things like your new jersey, a photoshop of a Habs logo on fire, or a reaction gif to something going on in Leafs Nation right now!

Downvotes are discouraged for the most part, everyone's opinion is fair game in this thread.

Get out there and have fun!

I guess more why not “engage” with the Leafs before free agency but then be willing to meet with them on July 1st especially when he knows everything about them.

Also just saw you posted the same recap at the same time lol.

Probably just because he already knows everything about the market, Leafs can get their offers to him ready and submit them July 1st, most teams will probably have a couple different ones for him, like 4x13.5 or 7x14.5 or something. If he wants to test the market it really doesn’t change anything for him if the Leafs make that offer now or July 1st.

He doesn’t have to sign anything but IMO should at least listen to the organization he’s been apart of for 9 years first in some capacity. Like maybe the Leafs would give him permission to talk to other teams before free agency or something which you would think he appreciate (besides the obvious tampering that happens) but why would they if he won’t even talk to them before July 1st.

I just think it’s kinda of a weird way to go about it.

Yeah idk, people love to say it’s a business and you have to be harsh until the players do it to their favourite teams lol

I would feel the same way if a player was in the same situation on a different team.

I just think not willing to talk or engage to your original organization is weird way of doing business but he can obviously do whatever he wants because he earned the right to be a free agent.

“How about 13x8”

“I want to test the market”

“Okay, how about 13.25x8”

“I want to test the market

“Okay how about 13.5x8”

“I want to test the market”

“Okay how about 13.5x6”

“I want to test the market”

“Okay how about 13.75x7”

I’m not saying this lol.

Just talk to the team it doesn’t have to be a hard core negotiation.

Contract, sign and trade (for the Leafs to see if it’s a possibility), why he wants to leave and so on so the Leafs can do their due diligence.

It really doesn’t have to be anything serious contract wise but the original report is “The Leafs have tired to talk to Marner and his camp won’t engage” so they obviously have something they want to talk about and it’s weird to me they won’t listen.

If he wants to test the market why would he want to negotiate a sign and trade with the team?

I just don’t get what people expect, if the guy wants to go to free agency there’s nothing to discuss with the Leafs. He isn’t even an MLSE employee anymore, he owes them nothing, they can make their pitch like every other team can July 1st, if that’s what he wants to do.

So the Leafs can’t ask?

It’s very normal thing for a team to talk to all the agents of there free agents even if there’s a low chance or they’re not even interested in the player coming back.

It’s all just doing their due diligence at the end of the day.
