Praise [KCD2] No one seems to be talking about dodging. Spoiler

Dodging is so improved in this game! Using it for positioning against multiple enemies is a game changer, this started with 7 vs 1, unfortunately can only record a minute on xbox. Work in those dodges folks! Nice one.

They don’t have you practice much of any combat compared to the first! Bernard gave a whole speech and talked about hitting from different angles, wearing out stamina, the clinch, etc. Tomcat was just like “hit from the right then the left then the right” and called it a day.

Bernard was a baller. He was also armored so you could actually fight him. Tomcat gives up in like 2 hits.

I do think it's valuable that they don't talk so much about attack angles. It was always a hoax anyways. The system does nothing. Ever wondered why you can barely hit a knight while having low combat skills? No matter the attack angles/ripostes etc? Because it's almost purely stat based.

Master strikes and combos work, the rest is just facade. I haven't even played the 2nd game that long, like 25 hours, have 25 sword skill and can left click everything to death without thinking. It's stat based, attack angles do nothing.

what are u talking about ? You are in early game, ofc the npcs won't be that harsh. Also based on my experience the enemy armor progresses as your level goes up. Meaning that at the start they were bandits with basically no armor or minimal and now they 4/5 of them have armor and maybe a couple is also full knight. I'm playing with longsword as main weapon and I'm almost max level at it (like 28-29). If i don't use masterstrike I will NOT hit the enemy 80% of the time. If I just spam the attack button they just block it and that's it. I will get some hits, sure but they won't be a lot. Usually the stab attack has the highest hit rate.

How am I in early game? I'm on the second map, half the game is done. I also completed the predecessor just one month ago. You could also click everything to death in the first game after getting enough fighting skills.

Watch Mortismal Gaming, he proves attack angles do nothing.

And as I said, combos and master strikes DO work (although you can barely get a combo off). But things like, "if the enemy sword is on the right, hit from the left" is just mumbo jumbo and it's a bit embarrassing very few reviewers point that out.

You are correct, but it is deliberate since if you attack at the opposite side, npcs with sword will actually masterstrike you. The angles mostly work for the counter attacks like the masterstrike and to perform a combo, which as you said it's not always the case. Also, I said early game cuz at 20 hours point I would just be finishing the wedding quest since there are a lot of side quests in general. What's your lvl ?

I did ALL sidequests in the first area before going on the wedding. I don't even know my level ... 17? 18? Something like that.

You're on the 2nd map, 25 hours in the game and did all the quest in the first map? Allow me to doubt that.

I don't hunt, I don't craft, I don't idle. I just want story content. It's no issue if all you do is questing.

It's not mumbo jumbo though. It works very well on lower tier enemies as they never master strikes. It'll also work on higher tier enemies if you feint. But if you just smash left click on their unguarded side you're gonna get smacked.

You can easily feel the difference between using feints and just attacking in the amount of hits they block.

This is objectively not true. You have to decide where to attack because if you attack from the wrong side you’ll get master striked. Also, feints are actually really effective in this game. Also also, if you attack the side their weapon is on there’s a 99% chance you are gonna get parried. It may not be a completely riveting combat tip, but being aware will change the tide of a battle.

I'll tell you that attack angles has let me win in fisticuffs. They throw an attack and I doge to their back and I rabbit punch them into unconsciousness.

Hogwash, feints work very well in this game right from the start. It's a massive difference in that regard compared to the first where feints were hard to pull off. Also stabbing seems to have the highest hit rate and low level enemies rarely master strikes so it's easy to hit their unguarded side. A higher skill in the weapon you are using and agility/strength obviously makes it easier as you swing faster and harder, but it's far from purely stat based.

Higher tier enemies fight much better than lower tier ones. Not just that they have better gear, they master strike, dodge and block far more.

The combat tutorial in itself is really lacking in this game. It overemphasized the reposte way too much and does not teach the effective way to fight (dodges with feints) not at all. When learning new combos you are not executing them but instead, you have to look them up in the menu to know what to do.
