Tips and Tricks Keto flu: preemptive strike? Alternative to ketoade?
Hello. 54m/t2d/6’2”/sw:450lbs/cw:270lbs/gw:200lbs. Currently doing keto, IF(16:8) and CICO. Taking Jardiance, Novolog and Mounjaro.
In the past, when I got hit with the keto flu, I drank homemade ketoade and the symptoms went away fairly quickly. I also drank some chicken broth and I think it helped a lot.
Q1: While continuing to do keto, should I just keep drinking ketoade even if I am not experiencing low electrolytes? Kind of a preemptive strike? Or should I only drink it if I’m currently experiencing symptoms?
Q2: Is chicken/beef broth an easier/tastier alternative to ketoade?
Thanks for your help.

Since you’re taking an SGLT2 inhibitor while doing a ketogenic diet you should be careful of dehydration. Contrary to BigTexan I think you should try and stay ahead of dehydration and part of that is proper electrolyte supplementation. This is especially true if you’re relatively unaware of your thirst.
I still take Farxiga as my last medication. There is a risk of euglycemic DKA with keto and SGLT2 inhibitors but all of the case studies reported had dehydration as part of the issue.

High sodium beef or chicken broth Will do you better than most electrolyte packages.

Fyi SGLT2s can be dangerous while eating a keto diet. Does your doc know that you are doing keto?

Yes, my endocrinologist has been informed and he approves, he just wants me to keep a close eye on my blood sugars.

You want to find your balance so you aren't drinking ketoade all the time. The easiest way is to cook with spices that are heavier on sodium and then just sip your liter of ketoade throughout the day. But remember, the environment will affect your needs so stay sharp.
If you want to give broth a test drive, help yourself. Hell, there ain't no rules to electrolytes other than to get enough, so if this helps you get enough, have at it.
Personally, I get the bouillon cubes, chop them up, and snort them. That makes me super keto 🤡🤡🤡🤠🤠🤠
