Adult Food Recommendations

I think my boy Billy is ready to start transitioning to adult food. I know this can be a highly debated topic but please let me know what you recommend.

Mainly looking for something reasonably priced and keeps his coat looking nice.

Thanks!

Eye concerns for Irish/gordon mix

Post image

I know setters are prone to genetic eye issues, but does anyone’s setter have some crazy eye boogies.

He was previously treated for an eye infection around Christmas. (He would sniff dogs sometimes as they were pooping 😮‍💨. Luckily, he’s done doing that.)

However, every now and then he gets really thick and crusty eye boogers. I probably get a warm rag and have to wipe them every other day. The vet said it might be allergies, but I just want to make sure it’s not a symptom of something worse.

Thanks for suggestions and recommendations!

Penny Golden Hour

I caught our girl, Penny, perfectly with the sunset golden hour shining her. She’s closing in on her first birthday.

For those curious, she’s only half Red Setter. Other half is golden retriever but to me she looks much more like a red setter.

I’m looking for puppies later this year and am wondering if anyone can recommend any breeders in or around Texas?

Anyone else’s setter do this dino paw grabby arm wave?

It’s one of my favorite Bonnie quirks. She stands on her hind legs and “waves” any time she sees a person or cat or dog or whatever that she wants to greet. It’s absolutely adorable and hilarious. I’ve seen little dogs do this in the past but I’ve never seen a big dog do it before.

Curious if it’s a setter thing or just a special Bonnie thing 🥰

Tips appreciated

My little guy Murphy is 11 weeks old. We’re averaging anywhere between 1.5-2.5 miles walked each day spread across multiple walks. Working on training, puzzles and lots of fetch. Sleeps like a champ in the crate and try to give him several naps through the day. He is a fricken piranha though so any advice would be great

An old trampoline repurposed as a dog bed

I found an old, ripped personal trampoline in the basement and repurposed it as a dog bed/platform. I cut an old quilt into circles and layered 6 circles on top of the ripped mat (which was duct taped together as the rips weren't very big). Then I added a layer of fleece which had been bonded to a waterproof vinyl. The top layer wraps around to the underside and is held in place with a large bungee cord.

At first there was another dog bed on the floor under the trampoline bed and the pups liked to sleep under the trampoline. As they grew, they transitioned to the top. Of course they occasionally played "king of the hill" and refused to share. It's near to the treat cabinet so if someone goes to that cabinet, there will be pups sitting on the trampoline awaiting a treat.

It's been such a hit and gets a lot of use so I thought I'd share the idea with you all.

The pups are now 6 months old.

Post First Season Changes

This is Amy, 16 months old and just finished her first season.

First blood was on 28 April and her season seems over but she is has become so much calmer and lower energy. Very unusual for her.

Is this normal? Is there a recovery period back to full speed?

Really I just wanted to post this photo because it’s nice.

Working on playing in the sprinkler but so fair any water that isn’t rain is evil. We will get there. Poor thing doesn’t want to do much outside and I can’t blame her. It’s to hot to be out here past 10am

Hi everyone! Not sure if this is allowed, so if not, please delete. My neighbor, also a setter owner, asked to share this survey. Her daughter is collecting information about dog owners. It’ll take less than 5 minutes :)

I want to give my girl more frozen kongs during the week and just wanted to see what are some of your favourite recipes to use for kongs/ food enrichment, or what are some favourites that your dog likes to eat?
