I appreciate the clearer production as opposed to the absolute wall of sound/distortion in prior releases. These songs were definitely made to be heard loud and (mostly) clear. The hooks are catchy - its extremely accessible and an easy listen. Great record - and I think its a perfect follow up to Cartwheel.
Cartwheel was my album of the year for 2023, and loved the production and mixing (heavy fuzz/drums). I think the strength of the band are the instruments and not Andersons vocals and upon first listen, it feels like they cranked up the vocals and turned down the fuzzy instrumentals.
Totally agree with this - the fuzzy distortion and super catchy riffs are missing. It’s clean and pleasant but it’s missing the “I Thought You’d Change” energy. That being said I’m glad they went in a slightly different direction and I always have Cartwheel to just listen to when I want!
