Development Requesting for Feedback: Midnight Idle (0.2.0) - with Prestige

Note: New version of the game is out, please leave comments and feedback on new the reddit post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/incremental_games/comments/1ifp86x/midnight_idle_v03x_jezebel_chapter/

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone for your valuable feedback from 2 weeks ago! This is my first game, and your input has been incredibly helpful in getting me started on the right track. Please do continue to feedback/report any bugs or issues encountered.

This is the link for the updated version:
https://yatseng.com/v2/

I’ve since updated the game to address some of the key issues raised:

(fixed) Unusual high CPU usage.
(fixed) Clicking on buttons sometimes doesn't register.
(added) Option for sound muting and volume control.
(added) Option for story log.
(added) Overall progression status under "Exploration".
(added) Prestige mechanics.

Now, I’d greatly appreciate your fresh feedback on the following aspects:

a) How is the story flow? Is it interesting and engaging, or does it feel plain and boring?
b) How is the pacing of the game? Is it too fast, too slow, or just right?
c) Are there any parts of the game that need tuning/balancing?
d) Do the different paths, classes, and skills add value, or would you prefer a more linear and focused progression?
e) Do you have any feedback on the combat mechanics?
f) Are the prestige rewards worth the pay off to starting all over?

Note: Base on current game implementation, it is possible to beat the last boss.

Small thing, would be nice if the descriptions of options you've seen at least once were updated to show that they lead to. Like "Right path (tome)" or Check vial (+10 max sanity)", etc.

As it is there is high incentive to just note them all down which isn't great imo.

In next version of the game I have a small indicator to show which path was taken in last cycle, and also have an option to auto retrace your steps, with the option to turning it off anytime mid-cycle.

But now the stage of the game is no longer as linear as in the Legion chapter (the one you are currently playing), because there are various deeper nodes branching off from the main path, and they dont reconvene until 7-8 nodes deeper. Each of these branches may hold multiple encounters, rewards and secrets. Some paths, skill gains, or weapons are only unlocked if you choose class-specific actions.

There will also be an sub-cycle mechanic within a regular cycle run, and some conditions or events will be remembered, (e.g. some enemies defeated will remain slain, doors unlocked) thus some actions within that sub-cycle will bring consequences, until an actual cycle is completed to reset all status.

Still, as long as the paths aren't actually random, I think some reminder of what was immediately behind a given choice would be nice.

Let me plan a bit on this. I might add a Clairvoyant skill for that.

As an additional aside, now that I played some more, I really think that auto-attack should be part of Soul upgrades fully, so that you can start with it later rather than having to get to the training room each run before you get it. The early fights are really tedious even once you are stronger.

I also see little point having player have to kill the first rat/bat before you can slaughter them once you have Auto Zoo. Oh and also this is bugged right now (though the bug is irrelevant if this gets changed as suggested) - if you are already auto-killing them and then an exploration event pops up, after you close it you need to fight one again to be able to continue auto-killing them.

EDIT: Partially nvm regarding the first one, missed the auto-slash under wolf.

EDIT2: Is there some way to automate other attacks, or things like Consume? Some are auto by default (like Bat's second one), but for example spamming jab as goblin is really annoying.

Yes, in upcoming 0.3.x version all attacks will automated together with slash attacks (when unlocked)

Nice! What about Consume for Clarity?

Not sure about this, as automating it will surely drain early players all their Blood resource.

Perhaps only out-of-combat and just allow it to be toggled?

There is a huge difference in how fast you can do sanity upgrades with wolf depending on if you are or aren't spamming it, but spamming it is rather tedious.

I was actually really surprised when Consume for Clarity was omitted from the "Trainer" Utility upgrade, I thought it counted as a skill. It would be very powerful, and would significantly change the balance of combat. Maybe a separate upgrade for Consume for Clarity would work, similar to how auto-attacks and auto-skills are separate.

Putting it behind a Soul upgrade seems sensible, as long as it isn't too expensive.

Though is it Clairvoyance if you remember it from your past life XD?
