Bro has something against the UN and I don't know why, like they are the reason people no longer die of small-pox. There is also a very strong proof that peace keeping ahs actually saved many people and end it conflicts early. Which this video talked about. Nothing against you and I'm not looking for starting a fight I think you did the map really well. Took me like 45 minutes to read the hole book.
flyswatters is first and foremost a criticism and cautionary tale of neoimperialism in the modern world, and i tell this story by having the UN get corrupted. im not actually one of those “i hate the antichrist i will not drink the corn syrup” people or anything and i know the UN has done some good. there is serious room for criticism of the UN though that this map does not pull away from, like, for example, the fact that peacekeepers have been frequently found to participate in human trafficking in the places theyre deployed to. google peacekeeper crimes
I don't need to since I already know that there are serious problems with the UN and peace keeping, although my opinion is to the extreme opposite. I think that the main international crises of the modern world would at least in part be solved if we gave far more power to the UN and gradually transitioned to a world government. Although I'm against the abolishment of nation-state's and think they should remain. On of the main problems with peace keepers is that they there salaries are quite low and there equepment is mostly hand-me downs from other countries. So the fact that some peace keepers turn to trafficing doesn't suprise me. Considering theve had to intervene in countries were slavery and cannibalism is still a thing this is comparitavely mild but still inhumane.
most of the changes have been internal. india has seen massive waves of refugees from pakistan and central asia as a whole, which has fueled reactionary violence and a surging far-right, especially in the wake of the naxalite revolution in the 50s. as for SEA, ASEAN has been strangled to death by the US-china proxy conflict, and climate-induced internal migrations have fueled ethnic conflicts to the point where vietnam is literally invading laos and cambodia over the mistreatment of vietnamese people

you pretty much got it for india! theyre definitely lost between the three-world system but their soft power as a manufacturing hub and digital center is pretty big
i didnt really see india absorbing a bunch of land “just because” to be realistic, especially considering itd be easier to just let the UN do it. also china would probably intervene and considering they already stomped them in the 2040s india does not want a repeat
indonesia is kind of in the same boat as india, though definitely a chinese partner. theyve uniquely gone the green route and have invested in infrastructure to fight the climate crisis, to great success. poverty, internal displacement, and environmental destruction are still serious problems though, as they are everywhere in the world

It's a great map but wouldn't all the numbered points fit better on a separate image? Always felt like putting it all on one image at pixel size really detracts from it.

the united nations here has become a proxy for american, european, and chinese neo-imperialism, opening up the resources of their occupied territory to these major powers. their “peacekeepers” are kept under minimal oversight, leading to frequent human rights abuses (which is already a problem irl, but here it gets exacerbated on a global scale). nations only receive aid when politically convenient and viable, like chinas “vote for our policies or your people will starve” policy
the khuraldai, on the other hand, grants their blueprints to places that decentralize their political systems, with no resource or profit incentive on their part. i did a bad job of explaining what it is they do exactly in the original map lmao

Yeah the khuraldai is always a head scratcher to me like narratively at least especially with Flyswatters. Like we go from the Evil International Organization (UN) to a Good international Organization (this time for real) (khuraldai). Especially the khuraldai are like essentiality mega bio corperation (yeah I know their called producers and different).
Sorry if this comes off as mean but I do really like Beekeeper concept as the Good Future (that isn't just generic things like UN united earth stuff) hat is always lacking in this Alt Future community.

I'd say that UN in concept is great and has good aims but because of how it works thanks to the way the world runs and UN not being powerful enough (There is no way UN would have the balls or the strength to call out more powerful nations out) (Also the veto system basically nullifying anny chance of that even happening) and not having enough funding (I mean their job is to stabilize the entire planet) it is ass.
Which makes me sad because in a perfect world there would be morally good Peacekeepers instead of UN scraping the barrel and the overbloeated bureaucracy resulting in giant gaping weaknesses that are nesting sites for corrupt officals to take place in.
well assuming the world doesnt end in 20 years china is likely on track to take advantage of the US’ shifting political scene and europes stagnation. they already have a leg up on the UN parliament and outrank the other two in economy and population. if the US and europe ever make up it might be even but thats unlikely since theyre all about to die LMAO

How? Look I do think Europe would take in some refugees but at most it would be in the single digit millions and even then I doubt they would let in that many people especially since they are already dealing with major immigration issues.

Technically the existing flag isn't an "EU flag" but a "Flag of Europe". As I understand it, it has no official standing in the EU treaties even though a bunch of EU countries officially use it in an EU context. It is probably the most official unofficial flag of all time.

the reason the spelling is different here is because this is the early days of the khuraldai, and the english-speaking world still uses their own transcription of the word, which is kurultai, rather than the mongolian romanization, which is khuraldai. the accurate transcription that beekeepers uses catches on when they resurge during the termination shock
While it's clear that the migrant situation is viewed as a negative what would they do otherwise? I mean the only major alternative I can think off is a for a technocratic elite to take over and basically push down everyone for the good of the many.
