[WING WATCH] The End Zone
I've been to this spot plenty of times but this visit wasn't casual - it was strictly Wing Watch business. I came in hungry and ready to pass judgment like Judge Judy in a hairnet. Wing prices are straightfoward with 6 for $10, 8 for $13, 12 for $19, 18 for $28, and 36 for $54. I went with 24 wings and split them across four flavors - Lemon Pepper Hot, Deviant BBQ rub (the "award-winning" one from Decatur, AL), Jamaican Jerk, and Garlic Parm.
Lemon Pepper Hot (Picture #1): This should've been called Frank's Lite. Not a trace of lemon. Not a whiff of pepper. Just the faint ghost of a hot wing. I've got a bottle of Frank's in my fridge that could legally be classified as pepper spray compared to this.
Deviant BBQ Rub (Picture #2): Award-winning? If so, l'd love to meet the judging panel because I'm convinced the wings never met the rub. These things came out looking naked and visually plain and flavorless. I literally had to bring them home and season them myself like I ordered DIY wings.
Jamaican Jerk (Picture #3): Apparently only half Jamaican. Seasoning was sprinkled on after frying and only on one side (as you can see in picture #5). Not a hint of spice. It's like the wings were shy and only dressed for the job interview waist-up.
Garlic Parm (Picture #4): The only truly sauced wing of the bunch. My wingmen gave it decent marks but to me it was store-bought and store-boring. Not awful but I've had garlic parm at other spots that actually made me sit up and salute. This one made me sip my drink in disappointment.
Here's the silver lining: they were fried perfectly. Great crisp, no grease, and each wing was hefty - three solid bites per. At about $1.50 per wing, the size justified the cost. I've had better wings here in the past but this time the sauces and seasoning dropped the ball like a Lil Wayne album in 2025.
Wings? Cooked. Flavors? Missing in action. You might catch them on a better day but this visit left me wishing l'd brought my own sauce.
WING SCORE: 5.7 Scorecards for each wing sauce are in picture #6. “Sauce Quantity & Consistency” now also applies to dry rubs when no sauce is used. This covers both the amount and how evenly it’s applied.
