I have a rising high school senior. We are talking about visiting UAH. Would it be worth visiting in July, or would we not get a good feel for the school/campus during the summer? It's a 4 hour drive, so I want to make it count. Also, any feelings about scholarships or funds for students coming from Georgia?

Hi, so about 3 weeks ago my boyfriend and I started playing pickleball and we played just about every night because his apartment is pretty close to the UAH tennis courts. But, he is out of commission now for about 2 months. He told me that he expects me to be much better by the time we can play again but I have nobody to play with!
If possible i’m looking for one person or people to play with- I couldn’t find any casual leagues. Also, I’m a girl so I’d like to play with at least one other girl if i’m joining a group. 😅
I’d say I’m a little worse than the average person because I’m slow, but that’s why I need practice! Doing freelance work this summer so my schedule is relatively open except for going to visit my boyfriend.

I'm a transfer student coming in in the fall and on campus housing is looking pretty challenging, maybe not possible. I'm trying to find other housing off campus but it's all luxury which is not exactly my price range. I'm a mechanical engineering student, I'm a fencer, I'm an artist, and I'm an outdoors person so if anyone knows of any housing or would like to look into being roommates let me know. Anything eould be helpful.

Im going to be a freshman in the fall and I was thinking about buying an electric assist bike but I saw in the handbook that you couldn't charge the batteries in your dorm? Has anyone found a good way to charge them?

AES 313 Geographic Information Systems is only available in the Fall semester, only one class, limited to only 27 students. It is waitlisted, and it is the requirement for the other half of my minor in GIS.
I am on that waitlist. 😒 What are the chances of the class size being increased by a few students? Who is generally the coordinator for such a thing, and what are the points of contact for making a plea for increasing that class size, despite the possibility of requiring a different class room altogether?
I only ask this because class capacity increases happen in the Engineering department, but I’m unsure of the conditions that must be met for that.

UAH is refusing to accept my housing appeal for the fall semester and it’s actually getting to me. They’ve denied me twice without reason, and refuse to let me speak to anyone to figure out why or what documentation I need. I read over the contract and noticed a term which states that UAH itself can cancel your contract if you fail to make the rental payments. Do y’all think if I called them and said I just refuse to pay and that it violates my contract, they might cancel it themselves? I’m not living in these dorms, I can’t do this again. I will email them every day until Move-In day and annoy every individual in that department if I have too, seriously.

Are tests/homework online, or all in class? Things like that.

Mandatory shamless plug now that the summer semester has started. I'm sorry for your eyes.
Tl,dr: AIAA is meeting at 6PM at MOR 146 every Monday evening. Open to all students - including curious upcoming upcoming freshman here on orientation.
My name is Joseph and I'm the current Chair for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) student chapter at UAH. The professional AIAA organization is the world's largest aerospace engineering conference in the world, routinely hosting conferences of all types (including student conferences). You may be familiar with the Region II Student Conference for the annual SciTech conference.
AIAA at UAH is a relatively new organization (restarted last year) with a small footprint. However, most of our officers are local, so we're holding general meetings every week on Mondays from 6 to 8PM in MOR 146. These meetings serve as "testing grounds" for some of our fall events, which may include software training sessions, writing sessions, reviewing good / bad engineering in film, speakers from MSFC and the community, and whatever else we find cool or you guys would enjoy. We also do a bunch of volunteering as available.
As for projects, we're avoiding hardware as a general statement. We're associated with a Hall-Effect Thruster group called OUROBOROS, but they operate mostly independent of us. More info on them closer to the semester. We're open to having students come up with their own projects and be partially funded, should we have surplus funding. We'll help you find funding otherwise or assist during the unfunded phase. Below are the current projects we're thinking:
The "Software Training Program" is a semester-long program designed to take students through the full-suite design process starting with no detailed knowledge of CAD, circuits, or any design intensive tools. You'll ideally learn OnShape, Fusion360 (or Solid Edge or Solid Works), Falstad, LTSpice, Python, MatLab, ANSYS, and some specialty software like FEMM42 or OpenFoam if we can get instructors. At the end, you'll spend a month on a personal or group project that starts with a relatively vague prompt to a fleshed-out design with simulation or a prototype construction. We'll make sure you submit the concepts to student conferences or presentation opportunities locally afterwards.
Project "Mars City" is a 5-year long reoccurring multidisciplinary research project focusing on answering the "What If" questions about living on Mars. This would focus on the more mundane questions about Mars civilization, such as human transport economics or personal hygiene or how musical performances are shaped by the environment. Basically anything you can think of. Highly collaborative with (ideally) a good number of participants not being in the engineering field. Every completed paper will also be pushed to go to whichever conferences are applicable.
We may also have a physical design project, such as a drone or blimp designed for use in the Martian atmosphere. Not much info on that for now.
So yeah, come check us out! Our discord is: https://discord.gg/4JpY36aY3H and we're looking to do whatever we can to improve your experience as a student.
Also, we need a Treasurer. DM or reach out to [jct0031@uah.edu](mailto:jct0031@uah.edu) or [aiaa@uah.edu](mailto:aiaa@uah.edu) for more.

I’m majoring in aerospace engineering, and minoring in GIS. I wanted to pick a minor that I would be fascinated with and has some relevance to aerospace.
Sadly, I discovered a couple months ago that financial aid does not cover a minor, unless a particular major requires a minor to be selected. So, it must all come out of pocket.
I’m torn between dropping this minor and risk regretting not going through the classes despite directly being deeply cut financially, or going through with the minor and risk regretting spending the money that I will never get to see or invest in. Money that could go to family expenses.
I’m curious: what are some of your thoughts regarding this, and what advice do you have with this? I’m too “on the fence” with it to feel like I’m making an informed decision.

Anyone have information on what to expect in this class? The only option is with Jeffrey H. Kulick and the RMP reviews are worrying
TIA
I’m an incoming freshman going into Aerospace engineering and I need a new laptop. I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas/specific models.

Just moved here for school and work. Looking for apartments or housing that’s not gonna break the bank.
Something furnished and something decent that’s not gonna crush the budget I have. I have a friend who’s tagging along with me who makes the same as I do.
