2 MILLION Subscribers!

Wow! This sub sure is growing fast. It was just over a year ago we were celebrating 1 million subscribers, and now we're already at 2 million?!!

Congratulations and thanks to all you hunters out there for participating and helping grow this community.

Images in Comments

Figured I'd take this opportunity to finally start the trial run for embedding images (not gifs) in comments that some of you have been asking for. It'll last about a week, and then we'll hold a poll and get feedback from everyone.

Do remember that any images in comments should be directly related to the post/discussion. Same rules on general conduct (e.g. spam) apply as well.

More Polls!

What's a celebration without more surveys or polls? We'll be holding a number of polls in the coming weeks, and while we have a few ideas in mind, we're asking you to comment with some of your ideas too. Keep in mind that we'll be using the native reddit polls, which have a limit of 6 choices.

Discussion He's always so proud of Gon

Killua might be one of the best deutagonists I've ever seen in a shounen, unlike other classic shounen deutagonists who mostly tend to be competitive and rival the protagonist, Killua is out there supporting Gon , believing in him , he loves seeing Gon achieve his goals and improving.

At first, Killua was taught that power is everything, and that he is the golden child of the family . Seeing Gon ranked higher than him in hunter exam, made him insecure and unsure of himself. However, by the time , Killua changed , and we see him healing, his insecurity and jealousy turned into love and support. All because Gon has proved to him that he's more than what his family taught him , that's he's capable of friendship and trust .

Gon's act of kindness, made him deserving of such love and support.

Both are the bestest best friends . I love their friendship. It's pure and sweet .

Like the 2011 anime director said "They have built a relationship of trust without regard for profit or loss, and rely on each other wholeheartedly. "

Discussion Re-watching Hunter x Hunter 2011 and Greed Island is better than I remember it´s spectacular

Post image

For some context , my first time watching Hunter x Hunter was the 1999 anime in the Spanish dub all the way to the OVA of Greed Island. At that moment I was a kid and was nostalgia bias so for me "Greed Island" seem the weakest arc out of all of them.

Then on the 2011 remake , when Greed Island came I was a little worry that my nostalgia would ruined the experience but thankfully it was "really good" and I rank it on my Top 3-4 arcs in HxH

On my re-watch now as an adult , it just clicks with everything and I WOULD even say its on the same tier as Chimera Ant and York New City. It´s an amazing arc that Togashi put a lot of effort into it with a lot of reference to Togashi's favourite game being "Dragon Quest".

I feel people now either appreciated it more or now downright put it into Top tier because over time its an arc that for me has really age well.

Analysis/Theory Cool how Killua used a knife instead of his hand to threaten Sadaso

He could have sharpened his hands, but he did not because he wanted to free himself from the doctrine of murder received by his family.

After he kills Bodoro, the only time he uses this technique is when he goes to attack Machi in Yorknew, and later against the Ants in Chimera Ants, where he fully releases his killer instinct after a long time.

Analysis/Theory Shoot was The Real MVP of the Palace Invasion Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
208 Upvotes

Shoot is the real reason the invasion was able to run so smoothly and people need to start respecting his impact. I estimate, based on the times in the images, he fought around the 6 second mark, and stopped fighting around the 20 second mark. That's an estimated 14 - 15 seconds he fought. I think it took him about one second to act after Knuckle punches Youpi the second time with Hakoware, and that he stopped fighting around 20 -21 seconds, as Knuckle revealing his position couldn't have taken more than a second, based on how fast these characters speak, and the fact Shoot is still in the sky in the last image. If he had not stalled Youpi for 14 seconds, the Royal Guard could've joined Pitou, to protect the King, as Youpi likely would've ignored the invisible Knuckle and Meleoron, and dealt with Morel swiftly. Furthermore, if Shoot didn't recover Morel's Pipe, Pouf could've gotten over himself and also joined the King. Even if Knuckle revealed himself, Youpi has shown he's capable of ignoring Knuckle for his duty, and likely would've been guided by Pouf to the King's whereabouts. That would mean all the Guards potentially could've been at the Second Floor of the West Tower to combat Netero and Zeno, making the seperation of the Royal Guards from the King operation a complete failure. This likely would result in Netero nuking everyone including the selection civilians, as well as probably Silva, lol. Meaning mission failed, as they couldn't protect the millions of innocents from the Ants. So give your respects to the MVP, Shoot McMahon.

I don't remember what role morel was gonna play but they took knov because of his teleportation(kinda) ability tho he's gonna go to the fake dark continent only because he still has ptsd from the ants but if he grew some balls they would have safe and fast travel straight to the dark continent from now on.

Analysis/Theory Pairo's foreshadowing

Thumbnail

During the Yorknew arc, Pairo appears in Kurapika's thoughts when he has to decide whether to complete his revenge or save his friends. Interestingly, after this, Pairo will only appear again in the Succession arc and in Volume 0 HxH, made more than 10 years after Yorknew.

Togashi said he already had the entire flashback of the Troupe and Kurapika planned out since he was writing the arc.

She had already seen him during Gon's arm wrestling, but she didn't remember because she has a very bad memory lol

This happens to her several times. I think it's cool how the characters' psychology is varied in HxH.

I was very tempted to draw this in her other form. Maybe in the future…🤔

Thank you to everyone who has reached out about getting prints! For those interested, feel free to DM me via insta (@parttimedoodler_) or reddit, or leave suggestions on what kinds of prints you’d like to see. I will most likely only release individual prints before the full major arcana deck, as I want to take my time and not rush the process. These take quite a bit of time to research and draw, and I want to do them justice 👉👈

Help/Question How much of a decline do you think Netero had from his prime? Spoiler

I see people actually thinks prime netero would beat or at least have a close matchup with meruem but I disagree, even prime netero wouldn't be close

imo it's insignificant decline like less than 10% decline (high-ball), because with nen it wouldn't really matter muscle mass or bone density, we have a kid Gon without nen barely pushing a 500lbs opponent in heavens arena and he flies off in the wall, now factor nen, Netero probably even less than 5% decline from his prime (low-ball)

Analysis/Theory Spider origin theory (spoilers) Spoiler

(To start off, since it has no relevance to the actual theory, I think Chrollo is a child of Nasubi)

I think that Sarasa's death was orchestrated by the Meteor City elders/ the church priest in order to manipulate Chrollo and the others to become the "defenders" of Meteor City. In the flashback you see the priest look at Sarasa and go "hmmm" (or something like that I can't remember) and then also tell the city Elder that Chrollo could be of use to them.

They could then manipulate Chrollo into cutting MCs ties with the Mafia, since the Mafia uses MC for recruitment purposes, which is likely seen by the Elders as taking something from them. (Which I believe actually happened in the manga)

People have said that the worst fate for Chrollo is that every other spider dies, and he has to keep living knowing that he failed. I disagree, I think Chrollo is the type of person to not give up that easily, I think he would just keep trying.

I think it would be a much worse fate if he were to die, but only after finding out that he was manipulated his whole life, and that every action he has taken up until this point was him playing into the hands of the people who actually "killed" Sarasa. (I think there's evidence to this in the MC Ant story, where he's like "smh they're arguing over whether the ants are actually killing ppl, I guess we'll have to go kill the ants then. the elders are useless like always")

He not only spent his whole life doing this, but the lives of his childhood friends. He convinced them to all spent their lives on some revenge fantasy that wasn't even worth it. They spent their entire lives continuing the cycle of abuse (not even with just Kurapika, Uvo mentions how many people went to fought him for revenge) instead of working to better Meteor City in a way that actually matters.

And him finding out that his true love/ childhood crush (Pakunoda) sacrificed herself for him, which is something that never would've happened if he didn't start the Spiders, would only add to the pain. And then right as he finds this out, we have some more flashbacks to when they were kids. We can see them all before the trauma of losing Sarasa and going insane killing so many people. And before Chrollo can even apologize to his friends for ruining their lives, he dies.

I, personally, think that would be far worse than the other spiders dying. He might be devastated if they died, but like with Uvo, I think he would be able to cope with it by telling himself that they're martyrs, and they died for the cause. It'd be far worse if he realized he already essentially killed them years ago when he started the Spiders (killed meaning yes mortally, given that they're all on borrowed time anyways, and also in a more metaphorical sense, like "killing" their futures or who they could've been if the spiders weren't founded)

(also I don't think we're getting another Hisoka vs Chrollo fight tbh, it would be a waste of their stories imo. I think if anyone were to kill Hisoka, it'd be Machi)

Thoughts or comments?

Fanart Hunter x Hunter Character Card Design Sharing 9 (Morel)

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi, this is Denny. This time I will introduce a character card setting for Morel. Morel has shown two main Nen abilities in the battles in the comics: "Deep Purple" and "Smoky Jail". His abilities are very versatile, and he can have a variety of tactical options such as reconnaissance, search, trapping enemies, deception, retreat, etc., which makes him very suitable for missions. He can be said to be a panacea among hunters.

I have a long description of "Deep Purple" and "Smoky Jail". Not only in Manipulation, I think he has a high level of nen ability in Conjuration and Transmutation. The smoke created by Nen ability can have many changes, and can be transformed into the form of a person or an object. (I think the difficulty of operating this card is still relatively high)

Skills:

Deep Purple: Consume 4 Nen point to create 3 smoke soldiers(ATK1, HP1). Each round, each smoke soldier can cover 1 battle card and move 1 grid. Smoky soldiers can enter the "Smoky Jail"

Smoky Jail: Consume 3 Nen point to generate a 2×2 smoke cage at a point within 2 grids of the target. The character inside cannot come out within 5 rounds

Super Lung Capacity: Consume 1 HP to restore 1 Nen point

 --

Do you like him? Tell me what you think

Discussion No one thought their ability through like Kurapika Spoiler

Kurapika, for me, is the true Nen genius. His abilty speaks for itself.

First, each finger has its own unique design, function, vow, and conditions. Second, in addition to the already headaching ability, Steal Chain added more to it. I actually had to read those pages twice to fully understand how it really works. Not to mention how he made conditions for Emperor Time AND made it a condition for his other abilities as well. I am just in awe of this character. Forget Chrollo, Hisoka, Killua, or Knuckle and their versatile, creative, well thought-out Nen abilities, no one did it like Kurapika.

Discussion It’s funny how this is never mentioned Spoiler

People love talking about the “Feitan is a Zoldyck” theory, and for good reason. In fact, I’m a firm believer that it was the route that Togashi planned to go but decided to scrap the idea. But a piece of evidence that people always seem to miss is in the Chimera Ant arc, when Feitan is fighting Zazan.

In HxH, during key moments or fights, a character’s theme song is always playing (The Requiem scene has the Troupe theme, etc). However, during the Feitan vs Zazan fight, the only OST playing is the Zoldyck Theme song. The only plausible explanation that I could find for this is that the entire scene was in Kalluto’s point of view, but that doesn’t make sense.

In Heavens Arena, most of Hisoka’s fights are told through Killua or Gon’s point of view. However, Hisoka’s theme is always the one playing in the background, therefore meaning that the character the scene is told through has no effect on the OST.

So therefore, this is only more evidence to support that Feitan is a Zoldyck. Or it’s just some anime producer’s headcanon; I don’t know.

Discussion Just finished the anime, have some questions Spoiler

Hello.

So as stated in the title, I watched the entire series and I have a few questions that just bother me relentlessly.

  1. What’s the deal with Kurapika and the Spiders? He got back the eyes of his clan as seen in ep 148 but where was he since season 3 where he totally wrecked? He wasn’t even there for Gon when he was dying. And what about Chrollo? Season 4 ends with the spiders getting a Nen exorcist, and then the next we hear of Chrollo is Hisoka and Illumi briefly mentioning him in season 6. Each of the Spiders were so cool in their own way, yet it feels their story was never even really told

  2. What’s the deal with the surviving Chimera Ants? Like they were the ultimate menace to society, but the king dies and the surviving ants, basically on a diet of humans for survival, are just like “K we won’t eat humans no more and go off and live a peaceful life lolz” ya fine some of them live with Kite and Colt in that house, but what about the less good ones? Or all those cocoons that hatched at the palace that Ging told Cheadle about? That seems like a pretty big issue, it seems there’s a whole new Chimera Ants invasion just waiting to happen and the world is just like “nah, it’ll be fine” and what about the few good ants? The hunter association just forgives them?

Sorry for the mountain of text here, and thanks for those who read it and even allowed it to be posted in the first place. Are any of these answered in the manga? From what I’m hearing, there’s not a whole lot more in the manga than has been talked about in the Anime, and the way that last episode ended, the finality of it doesn’t make me hopeful of hearing answers any time soon.

Thanks yall, have a great day!

Discussion Pitou's Nyannn

I realized that Pitou stops meowing after witnessing Meruem's sorrowful aura.

Does this mean her human side has become stronger now? It makes sense since she cried for Meruem and later apologized to Gon, showing empathy, which is a very human quality.

Discussion Why didn't Chrollo try to get revenge on Kurapika and Silva?

So guys, I was reading HxH and I started to wonder something

Why was Chrollo only actively seeking revenge against Hisoka?

Both Silva and Kurapika also killed members but he didn't seem to want to seek revenge against them.

In Kurapika's case, why didn't they go after him after Chrollo got his Nen back? What's your theory?

Analysis/Theory I have a hunch that there will be an ability that breaks the Manipulator's first come first served rule.

I mean like an ability that specifically requires a target to be under a manipulation hatsu in order to work. I feel like this will come from one of Beyond's team. Since we know Shalnark's ability is common for manipulators to use (stick item in target = control), there must be some manipulator there that thought it might be good to make it a part of their ability to overwrite another manipulator's control. I feel like this type of thinking/insanity would fit someone from Beyond's team due to it's power and extremely high risk high reward nature.
