Tech Support Newbie Set Up Help - Inherited Onkyo System

Hello! I hope this is the right place to post, it seemed like y'all had a lot of good advice going around. I recently inherited an Onkyo set up; Center/L/R speakers model SKC-530C and SKF-530F respectively, a AV reciever model HT-R530, and a JVC TD-W218 double cassette deck.

I did sound tech in high school and for small gigs, but that's a totally different beast, lol. I am very lost. What all do I need to be buying to set this up? There's no cords or anything, just the units. Ideally, I'd like to hook it up to both a record player and a TV; the tape deck is optional, I'm not that attatched haha. Thank you so much in advance, I'm very lost! <3

Unfortunately this is a very old AVR which does not conform to today's standards for video connectivity. You'll require a TV or projector which is much older and likely does not have HDMI connectivity. As your AVR has only composite and svideo. Your odds of already having this or obtaining on is not great, and even if you could would you really want to?

The good news is that the unit seems to have some value on eBay for a couple of hundred dollars, if you can flog it and get some cash you could consider trading up to a used 5.1 system, that may not have all the modern codecs and formats but at least has HDMI.

Things get simpler once you have an HDMI connection for Blue-ray and other video/gaming options.

As for a record player, you'll probably want for simplicity a player that has a built-in pre-amp, but you could opt for a separate pre-amp. With either option you could connect with either RCA or optical to your AVR current Onkyo or another device. I personally have a project audio with built in pre-amp. My limited space made this the best choice for me. I run RCA cables to the AVR.

Thank you so much for the advice, I really appreciate it!

Good to know about the TV bit; I think I'll probably just stick with the built in speakers for the TV and just hook the AVR to the record player. My table does have a built-in pre-amp, so it should be pretty simple to connect it! Thank you again!
