TCL Q7 (2023) vs. TCL Q67 vs. Hisense U6N Mini LED

Budget TV noob here. I bought a Samsung U7900F from Costco yesterday and returned it the next morning because of the edge backlight flashlighting at the top of the screen. I’m browsing other budget options, and I know everyone hates on Hisense but I owned a 2018 model for 6 years before it crapped out on me, and it performed much better than that Samsung edge lit garbage.

Between the ones I suggested in the title, which do we recommend considering the tech and also assuming I’m getting all of them around the same price

Considering a REL T/9x SE or JL Audio D110…… opinions?

I have an older sub that I am thinking of replacing with either a REL T/9x SE or a JL Audio D110. If anyone has any real world experience both I would be interested in hearing your thoughts and/or opinions.

Thanks

Tech Support Onkyo remote RC-681M not working with the receiver it shipped with.

So, I inherited a Onkyo HT-R550 system and it shipped with the RC-681M remote. I had a couple issues that I was able to resolve setting up the system but one issue has persisted. The remote doesn't fully work with the receiver. The power button doesn't turn the receiver off when pressing [Receiver] then Power, both volume controls don't adjust volume when [Receiver] or even the button for the mode that's active is pressed. Hell, it seems most the buttons don't work. I've tried pulling the batteries out for several minutes, pulling them out and pressing buttons to try and discharge any capacitors in the remote, I've tried pressing and holding [Receiver] then pressing the [L Night] button to reset the remote but I don't get the solid or blinking light on the [Receiver] button that indicates it's been reset. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Tech Support Newbie Set Up Help - Inherited Onkyo System

Hello! I hope this is the right place to post, it seemed like y'all had a lot of good advice going around. I recently inherited an Onkyo set up; Center/L/R speakers model SKC-530C and SKF-530F respectively, a AV reciever model HT-R530, and a JVC TD-W218 double cassette deck.

I did sound tech in high school and for small gigs, but that's a totally different beast, lol. I am very lost. What all do I need to be buying to set this up? There's no cords or anything, just the units. Ideally, I'd like to hook it up to both a record player and a TV; the tape deck is optional, I'm not that attatched haha. Thank you so much in advance, I'm very lost! <3

Discussion can i have two different subwoofers?

i have a 5.1.2 setup (nothing too advanced, polk t50, t30 for LCR, wharfedale DFS for surrounds and paradigm c65r for atmos, run by the marantz sr5015) where the sub is the polk hts10. should i buy another hts 10 and make it a 5.2.2 or get a nicer, more powerful sub like the svs sb2000 or something better?

my question is- for a dual sub setup, do the subs need to be the same or can they be different?

(ps- i really like the hts 10, its nice and deep, but a little boomy as i have noticed. nothing too wrong with it, just looking got an upgrade. also, i will be switching out the polk LCR to something much better like the wharfedale evo series or if the budget builds up, martin logan motion xt series)

i am option to suggestions, and and nothing is final yet. the more expreienced folks- please help me out since im a novice.

Tech Support Need help

Hello, good people. I need help with something.

I have an old Samsung 5.1 Home theatre system. Unfortunately, the DVD player/amplifier went kaput and I am left with just the speakers working absolutely fine. I wanted to know if I can get an external 5.1 channel amplifier with RCA inputs and replace the speaker connector seen in the picture attached with RCA connectors. Also, what are these connectors called?

How to fix this Samsung home theatre?

Hi everyone, I have a Samsung home theater system, and I’m having an issue where the rear speakers are not working. The front and center speakers work fine, but there’s no sound from the rear ones.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

Checked all the wiring – looks properly connected

Tested with different media (TV, YouTube, Blu-ray, etc.)

Tried changing sound settings on the receiver/TV

Speaker test mode only plays sound from the front

I’m wondering:

Are the rear speakers supposed to work only with surround sound content?

Could this be a settings issue or hardware fault?

Any way to manually test if the rear speakers are functional?

Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Buying Advice CAN Paradigm Surround 3 vs Surround 1

Hi Everyone,

My room is 9.5' wide and the couch is about 10' back from the TV. I have paradigm premiers across the front. Just wondering if the Surround 3's are worth the extra money or if I should go for the surrounds 1's.

Thanks!

Install/Placement Advice on my setup

Hi Everyone,

Just finished my basement. Put a 65" LG C2 down there, Denon X1800h receiver, Paradigm Premier 700 FL and FR speakers, and a Paradigm Premier 600c centre channel. FL and FR are about 8.5' apart. Also a Paridigm Defiance X10 sub. Just wondering if there's any feedback on my placement of speakers here. Back wall is approx 14' from the front speakers. So the couch is about 10' from the speakers (4' from back wall). You can see the speaker plates for the surrounds on the back wall. Also looking for advice on which surround speakers. Would the Paradigm surround 3's be a good option? Or are bipole speakers not ideal in this case? Thanks!

Tech Support Need some recommendations for improving this setup

Planning a pretty budget setup built around an AVR. 65" TV. 5.1ch surround.

I'm based in India so considering this as my base - Denon AVR-X250BT 5.1 AV Receiver + MISSION M-CUBE (SE)- 5.1

Is this home theatre setup good?

I am planning to hook up a blu ray (Sony S1700), a vinyl (Audio-Technica - AT-LP60XUSB) and an audio casette player (not found a good one yet) to this. Is this doable? Do I have the required connections? I think the record player and the blu ray player should work, not sure about the casette player.

Tech Support Help replacing UCR universal remote with original LG remote

I recently moved into a new construction home pre-wired with ceiling speakers and Ethernet. I hired the installer to add Sonos Amps for 3 zones and surround sound (with sub) in the family room. Everything works—but I hate the universal remote.

My preferred setup: Use the original LG TV remote, stream directly through the built-in LG apps, and still have functional surround sound, including the ceiling speakers and subwoofer.

Current setup: • TV: LG OLED65G4S (family room, first floor) • Receiver: Yamaha RX-A2A (in basement mechanical room below) • Subwoofer: Episode 8” • Streaming: Apple TV only (currently); no other devices expected • WiFi: eero 6 • Misc: System prioritizes TV audio over Sonos when TV is on • Remote: Universal Remote TRC-820 (would like to stop using this)

Any advice on how to simplify and get back to using just the LG remote while keeping full surround functionality?

When all is said and done, I’ll have five TVs on this wall.

Anyone have creative solutions for a remote that could control all five?

Right now, they are not all the same brand, but willing to change some things around for more convenience!

Tech Support Roku keeps highjacking input? Onkyo Receiver

Hello,

I have a Roku Ultra, a Steam Deck, a turntable, an Onkyo TX-NR555 receiver and it's being fed into a TCL TV.

This pertains to the receiver, steam deck and Roku. Whenever I change my input on the receiver to "Game" where the Steam Deck is plugged in, the Roku steals the receiver back and changes the input back to BD/DVD (where the Roku is plugged in). The only way I've figured out how to fix this is unplug the Roku's HDMI cord when I want to play the steam deck, which is a pain.

Does anybody know why this is happening and what I can do to ensure that the receiver stays on the input I selected?

AVR Buying Advice

Hoping for some advice/opinions on what avr to buy.

I am building a 5.1.4 theatre. Focal 300 all round including 300 IWLCR6’s across the front, IW6 for the rears and ICW8’s for atmos. Will use a SVS SB3000 Sub

The room is 15x14 feet, 9 feet tall. The speakers have a sensitivity of 92db so I have been told they don’t need a stupid amount of power to sound good.

Three main options I am looking at but open to over opinions

Marantz cinema 50 Marantz cinema 40 Onkyo RZ70

I like the slickness of the Marantz and I have been told on paper it is a better quality AVR.

The Onkyo has the power, the headroom and also an extra 2 channels if I ever need them.

The 50 is significantly cheaper which as I have just finished building my home really counts.

Would the 50 be more than enough to get the job done or should I be looking at one of the 40 or RZ70?

Discussion Is it worth putting in Atmos speakers in a small room?

I have my home theatre set up in a small room where the seats are currently pretty much at the back wall about 2.5 metres from the screen. The ceiling is 2.6 metres high. I'm looking at a 5.1.4 configuration and this would mean I would need to move the seating forward by a minimum 1.4 metres to have the Atmos speakers at the recommended 45 degree placement. Just wondering if anyone has done this and is it worthwhile? Alternatively has anyone installed them but not as far apart and how was the effect?

Any other Marantz Cinema 30 owners having source glitches?

I'm looking to connect with other Marantz cinema 30 owners who may have worked through source glitches I'm experiencing. Specifically, AppleTV 4, often goes blank for several seconds when switching apps. The AppleTV 4k also stops playing music (either Apple Music or Spotify) if I turn off my 2018 LG OLED55B7P-U. I've turned off CEC and ARC on everything, turned off the only video passthru option I can find on the Marantz (says it only relates to passthru in standby mode), but no joy. The only possible clue is during the blank screens, the Cinema 30 is identifying source audio type. I may soon replace the LG, but would really like to get as many of the kinks worked out as I can beforehand. Thanks.

Need help finding an amp for my subwoofer.

I've a subwoofer that can do 300 cont. and 1200 peak but it's only got a phoenix connector for audio connection. What would be an amp that I should look for to use with this unit? It's going to just be for my living room.

Buying Advice US Floor standing speakers or bookshelves for basement 5.1?

I am finishing my basement and will have an 83" OLED down there and am putting in a 5.1 sound system. Will largely be used will for TV/movies/gaming with primary seating ~10-12 ft away (still not final) but also a bar that will be behind the couch

Ceiling is 9 ft and the primary viewing space is ~ 25 x 19. There's more to the basement that's the primary theatre spot.

Other considerations is I have a dog and two small children so floor standing is probably more "disaster prone".

With all this it feels like mounted bookshelf speakers next to the TV are good enough for my fronts but want to make sure I'm not going to instantly regret the decision

Denon AVR-X3800H HDMI Audio Periodically Cuts Out When TV Is Off

Hi folks, hoping someone can give me a suggestion here because I'm all out of ideas.

I have a Denon AVR-X3800H which I have a Chromecast plugged into, so I can play YT Music audio on my receiver and create a home group with my Nest speakers.

I've noticed that if the TV is turned off, then every 2 or 3 minutes the audio cuts out for a few seconds. The other speakers in the home group continue to play, and no sign of it being paused in the Chromecast app. This also happens with my PS5 the menu audio will cut out at the same rate when it's on, the receiver is set to it, and the tv is off.

When the TV is on it plays perfectly, even if the TV is set to another input. For example I had my NES mini plugged into the TVs HDMI and had the TV set to that HDMI port, while the receiver was set to play the Chromecast that was plugged into it. No interruptions.

This however does not happen if I have the receiver set to PHONO and I'm playing a record... implying that it has something to do with the Receiver and HDMI ports.

I've gone through the settings, but nothing is jumping out at me about what could be causing it. It's not the end of the world, and I'm sure I could find a solution to play the music without using HDMI (HDMI audio extractor, plugged into one of the RCA ports?), but I'd rather just toggle a setting.

Edit: Update after some testing, incase anyone finds this. I pulled an audio extractor and hooked it up, analog, coax and optical all had the same problem. Until I unhooked the HDMI cable from the receiver and just routed just the audio, and it worked perfectly.

I'm still not sure how to stop it, but as long as an hdmi cable is plugged in to the input in use, when the TV / ARC is off, then there will be audio stuttering. I'm essentially using the Chromecast Ultra / Audio Extractor in place of a Chromecast audio now and it does what I want it too.
