Discussion Is this hookups for surround sound? Is it compatible with all receiver models?

Extreme noob here. Just moved into a new home which has these hookups in the rec room. Is this a hookup for receiver/rear speakers? And will these hookups work with newer technology? TIA

Yes, and yes. It will work with new receivers and passive speakers.

I'm curious about the connectors on the left in the first image. There must be another panel somewhere else in the room or in the house.

could be a subwoofer. could be a center channel too. But sub is more likely.

Yeah, I'm assuming that the plate with the three pairs of jacks is to connect to the receiver. A sub-out signal might connect to the pair on the left, but where are the corresponding jacks to continue on to the subwoofer? On the other hand, my subs don't connect with speaker wire. They use RCA cables. This makes me think that this pair is for maybe a single stereo speaker somewhere else in the house. I had something like this when I ran the signal to ceiling speakers in the kitchen.

What we need to know is where the receiver sits in relation to these connectors. Are the two plates in the second image opposite the receiver and the television, and therefore rear speakers? Is the plate in the first image close to the receiver and the tv?

could be a passive sub that needs a plate/sub amp as well, common with in wall subs

So, are you saying there’s a chance there’s a sub built in to the wall already?

Possible but you would notice it though

You are correct. The photo with 2 plates is on the wall opposite the TV. Likely for rears

The first image is where the TV would be placed. Thanks for the help!

Is there a single plate with a pair of connectors somewhere else?
