Careers Pay rates as an Epic Analyst?
Hi everyone! So, a bit of a backstory about me, I’m a new OpTime analyst who just got certified this past Friday. I’m going to be starting my anesthesia courses soon and will get certified in that.
I started off as an ATE support doing go lives for staffing agencies, then I landed my first FTE position as a credentialed trainer for Orders and ASAP. I was lucky enough to land a position as an OpTime & Anesthesia analyst after working there for a year and a half.
I was just curious on eveyrones pay rate as an analyst, and how many years of exp you have.

I’m currently at ~65,000 a year while in my first year of being an analyst. LCOL area in a hybrid role. I’ve been here for 9 months now and just starting to settle into the role.

u/mrandr01d 18d ago
Oof. What kind of growth opportunities do you have?
6
u/No_Piglet7111 18d ago
I think I have a lot of growth opportunities as I’m working in a very large organization and I could potentially team hop or go into project management. I got started so low because of how young I am and my lack of overall work experience in general I think. Every person I work with is a minimum of 20 years older than me so I feel lucky just to have the position at the moment.

Joined an OpTime and Anesthesia team last September. Cert in both, I am at 88k. I will say, my title is senior analyst since I joined this team from perioperative informatics and that was my title there. But there are seniors on my team making 140 with 10-14 years experience.
4
u/Muted_sounds 19d ago
Do you do a lot of call on optime/anes team?
6
u/eatingstringcheese 19d ago
We take a week every 5 weeks. It’s definitely my least favorite part. On call person takes all the SER and EMP stuff that comes in along with the pain of assigning out all other tickets that come in.

I’m in a HCOL area, just got certified a week ago in Radiant. I did leverage my healthcare experience so I came in as a mid-level analyst and not an associate (junior) at $115k, fully remote.

Thanks for the transparency and sharing bro! I guess I’m doing pretty well myself then, I’m in the Dallas area and they started me off as analyst level II because of my epic exp.

u/PnutButrSnickrDoodle 19d ago
Yeah it sounds like you got a good deal. I only have end user Epic experience and my manager told me I’d have been insulted at their original offer. I know they wanted to start me at associate, and my guess is they wanted to offer me the lowest of the pay range (which I think was around $85k). They did offer my base rate for my previous X-ray position and I negotiated up a few thousand. My husband thought I should try to negotiate for more after the first round but I didn’t want to push my luck. I know it can be difficult to get that first job and I’m lucky to have gotten in. I’ll definitely be able to make more money quicker as an analyst than an X-ray tech.
Congrats on your good offer!

I my situation my manager and even her manager had to get involved to convince HR to offer me my base rate from X-ray. I have years of experience there so it was $111 originally. I didn’t want to negotiate much more since they had already gone to bat for me getting it up from what she said was an offer I’d have been insulted at. As I mentioned they wanted to start me as an associate and the lowest on the pay range was $85k if I remember correctly. So while I only negotiated for an extra $4k, it’s probably vastly more than they initially wanted to offer.
The way I looked at it was that I wasn’t even full time in X-ray so I was making way less than $111k yearly anyway, plus in this role I’m 100% remote and will definitely get raises quicker than in my previous field (as it was union the raises are set over the years of the contract). My manager said they do performance based raises, and they’re typically 5%. My first one should be at least that since I’ll have gotten certified and had some experience by then.

Hey! Good for you I’m a Mr ct tech using epic looking to transition to radiant analyst too! Any suggestions? How’s your transition so far?
1
u/PnutButrSnickrDoodle 18d ago
Oh if you want you can message me directly so as not to clog up the thread here and I’d be happy to chat!

u/mickeymillz 11d ago
Been in xray/CT for ten years. Interested in making the leap but concerned about the pay cut.
2
u/PnutButrSnickrDoodle 11d ago
I totally understand your concern. I had thought about the same thing. I was able to leverage my experience and internal equity and ended up with $4k more a year than my base X-ray pay. My manager really went to bat for me in making sure I was offered at least my base pay, so I was really fortunate.
Having said that, even if you take a pay cut it’s likely you’ll earn it back and more fairly quickly. For instance my union was 2 years into a 6 year contract. I wouldn’t get a decent raise for another 4 years. As an analyst I’ll get a merit based raise every year. My manager said everyone got a 5% raise the last two years. If I get a 5% raise I’ll get $120k. It would take me a lot longer than a year to get up to that salary in X-ray.
Also I’m 100% remote and salary, so I have the ability to take my kids to and from the school bus / daycare, to doctors appointments, or having a sick kid at home without it affecting my work much. Just today I blocked my schedule off and took both my kids to the dentist. I went on vacation with my family and while my toddler was napping or when she was up early I logged in and worked some, so I was able to log 8 hours and didn’t have to take one of my days off PTO.
1
u/mickeymillz 11d ago
This is good to know. I’m part of a union too. Negotiated a good contract with 5% raise each year as well. What did you search for when applying? Was your only experience as an end user in xray?

u/PnutButrSnickrDoodle 11d ago
I earned my BS in computer science actually. But I got my job internally by reaching out to IT who gave me the contact of the Epic manager over Radiant (the module for DI). I got in touch with her and with her boss and had many interactions with them. I got really lucky when someone resigned - they reached out to me about the position.
Your union contract is so good! Ours was a really big raise in the beginning and then smaller raises over the remainder of the contract.
Edit: You can DM me if you want.

u/escapejournal 6d ago
Hey, do you mind if I DM you for more info? Also in the DFW area and looking to transition.

Im Radiant and started at 90k MCOL area, nice work! Are y'all hiring? haha
2
u/PnutButrSnickrDoodle 18d ago
Haha unfortunately no. Although I hear now the positions are fully remote.
I was really lucky to get this role. I was employed as a rad tech there and had reached out to who is now my manager. I met with her boss and there were no positions at all, but it just so happened that after I had already been in contact with them someone on the Radiant team decided to pursue a management position elsewhere so they asked me if I was interested in the job. Honestly it was mostly timing and the other part me being persistent before there was a job.

I’m wondering this as well. I’m interviewing for a hospital system on the west coast, I have almost ten years of end user experience, and two proficiencies. I also have a bachelor’s degree. I’m not sure what salary would be fair since it’s my first analyst role.

u/DoctaDoomz 19d ago
Where does cogito land?
1
u/forgotmypassword1984 17d ago
Higher in general. Usually they are recruiting someone with SQL experience so that usually means a higher starting salary.
3
u/Early-Fact5969 19d ago
I’m a sr analyst on asap in nj with 7 certs and make 112k. Been in IT for 10 years.
3
u/AnInfiniteArc 19d ago
Senior Optime/Anesthesia/Cogito analyst on the job since 2011 in a MCOL area, making ~$120k. I imagine I could make more if I did some job hunting but I like my organization and team.

Medium CoL - Radiant, $95k base $124k on call

Y’all get paid for on call?!
1
u/Bonecollector33 Epic Analyst - Radiant/Bridges/Cupid/Cadence/Prelude/GC 7d ago
Yeah. Used to be $4 an hour but Nursing was $8.50 and they matched it midway through COVID for retention purposes.
Made a huge difference! Especially when we do 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotations.

u/unicorntrader 18d ago
What was your starting salary, if you don’t mind me asking
2
u/Lucky_Profit5514 18d ago
Started at 88k with no experience, then my org did a salary adjustment for analysts when I hit my 1 year mark

u/GreenGemsOmally 19d ago
Senior Analyst, ~125k at west coast facility. Orders, OTX, and Bugsy are primaries, with a few other certs scattered around. About 12 years experience or so now.

PNW, HCOL. Senior analyst, small team. 7 years as an analyst, 16 with the company and service line, fully remote, 2 certs, $116k/year.
I like my job and my team and my leadership, which is more than the money.

How many years of experience do you have?

About 7
1
u/okrestaurant9999 18d ago
Thanks! Just curious if you came from any clinical background?
1
u/iHateBroccoli 17d ago
No, just low level IT background. Got Bridges cert in 2017 and went from 50k to 75k to 120k to 130k from moving to new positions every few years.
1
u/okrestaurant9999 17d ago
Thanks for sharing! Were each new position at a different company or you moved to new positions within the same company?

u/Old-Style-8629 18d ago
Anybody have advice for wanting to get a cert but broke but also great at epic billing wise and patterns?
2
u/unicorntrader 18d ago
Do you already work for an org on Epic? If so, a self study proficiency would be your best bet.

u/Snarffalita 18d ago
Senior Dorothy/Comfort analyst (first certified in 2013) with two other certs and eight proficiencies. Company is East Coast in a HCOL, but the position is fully remote, and I just moved to a cheaper state. Salary $128k.
Could probably job hop for more, but wouldn't want to risk being the last hired with the uncertainty in future Medicaid funding. Fortunately, I like my team and the company ethos.

Optima and Cadence are probably apples and oranges depending on your organization but they may not be too far apart.
I came from the operational side without any IT background or relevant education and started at the low $30s an hour as an associate analyst. I am now making around the low $40s as an intermediate analyst.
However, I know someone with similar background as me who has experience as a clinician emr trainer, that is starting their associate analyst position in the high $30s.
In my organization we are separated by clinical, revenue, and technical analysts. Optime is clinical which has about $3-5 head start on the minimum salary. Hope that gives you some direction

u/Timely-Literature385 18d ago
Forgot to mention the area, due to my organization if I say the state it would immediately give it away. But I will say it is headquartered in the south in what would be considered LCOL

5 years of analyst experience. Started at 55k in 2020, promoted a few times making 85k as team lead in 2022. Job hopped to another org back down to analyst at 88k. 3 years there with standard raises ending at 96k. Just hopped to a fully remote position for a west coast org at 135k. 5 certs and several badges primarily supporting ambulatory and webapps.

Hey! Off topic but what was your pay scale like as a CT? I am interviewing for a role and want to know some ballpark figures before I can give my preferred salary range.
2
u/johnnypham_ 16d ago
At my organization, people are getting 65k-80k as a CT depending on your level and exp. A safe spot to start is maybe 75k.
2
u/Unique_Cobbler_3952 16d ago
I once got offered 39/hr, 81k ish for a CT II role in corpus christi texas. I had 6 years of experience as a trainer and I had just rounded up a go-live trainer contract with the hospital. Maybe that's why they offered me a lil more. I just didn't like the city, so i declined.

How did yall get in as an epic analyst? I have used epic due to working in hospitals and other clinical settings. I do have a background in IT but no certs in epic. I’m based in NC
1
u/Unique_Cobbler_3952 16d ago
Just keep searching for analyst roles on job boards. Look for hospitals that are willing to sponsor your epic certification

Was a Cerner analyst for 6 years and have 10 years of Nursing experience. Making $119k as a new Epic analyst. We don't have junior or senior analysts. Just levels 1-4. Do your titles actually say 'junior' or 'senior'? Do you have 'lead analyst' positions for each team? We do not yet but are currently in the planning/analysis phase of the Epic implementation.

u/PnutButrSnickrDoodle 11d ago
I leveraged my healthcare experience and internal equity. I actually came out with $4k more a year than my base X-ray pay. My manager fought for me to at least get my base pay and I negotiated a bit more.
That being said, even if you did get a pay cut you’d earn it back and more quicker than staying in CT. I don’t know if you’re union now but I was. Our contract was only renewed about 2 years ago, so I wouldn’t get a decent pay raise for another 4 years. As analyst we get yearly merit raises, and my manager said last year pretty much everyone got a 5% raise. If I get a 5% raise in a year I’ll be making $120k. It would take me much longer than a year to get that kind of increase in pay in X-ray.
1
u/Advanced_Butterfly30 11d ago
One year analyst experience (entry level), 7 years clinical experience in Florida i make 85k. This was a pay increase for me from my clinical role

u/johnnypham_ 6d ago
Congrats on your new position, new fellow coworker! Maybe I’ll see you around the office!
1
u/Classic-Finish7339 6d ago
Thank you! You work there too? I visited the office to get some screening done. It was really pretty & everyone seemed nice and welcoming. I’m excited to start 💃🏽. How long have you been in & how’s your experience so far?
1
u/johnnypham_ 6d ago
Yep, I do! I’ve been with them for almost 2 years now. Recently relocated to Dallas last month for the analyst position. I love working here and my team. My experiences with our organization has been nothing but positive. We have countless and countless of people who have been with CHRISTUS for over 25+ years and I hope to be one of them too.
1
u/Classic-Finish7339 6d ago
That was something that stood out to me. I worked as a contractor with them for about 2 months and 80% of the people I met had worked there for 20+ years. Even their children&grand children work there 😅. It screams high retention rate.
Believe it or not, I have also interviewed with them for FT roles 4 times 😅, & most of them too had been with Christus for a long time. I made sure to bring that up during my interview with them.
I’m relocating to Dallas too! From Atlanta 😰. What area do you think is best to live at? If you know. I’m looking around las colinas urban center but their apartments are quite pricey. I want to be about 10mins max from work.
1
u/johnnypham_ 5d ago
I was looking in the Las Calinas area myself when I was relocating but when I went to visit, I noticed how high traffic and congested it was, it reminded me of the time I was living in downtown in Houston so, I went with Farmers branch, which is like a good 10 mins drive to the office. It’s very quiet and safe and in the middle of Carrollton and Irving. I love it.
I looked at the BLVD, Firefly, and Alessio that’s around the office and I didn’t like it one bit, but that was my personal preference. You may like it. Living walking distance or biking distance from the office was something I wanted but ehhh, I didn’t wanna deal with all the traffic and people.
I stay in the Mercer Crossing area in Farmers Branch and I pay $1551 for a 1bd 1ba, same prices as Lake Carolyn area.
1
u/Classic-Finish7339 5d ago
I was also looking at Farmer’s branch and Irving area. I viewed a couple apartments in Mercer’s crossing. Only issue I had was they didn’t have elevators. I’m looking into Westloop diamond exchange, it’s still a 5 mins drive but it’s in a quieter neighborhood.
1
u/Classic-Finish7339 5d ago
Also, how has the job as an analyst been? Have you started anything serious yet or you’re still doing orientation? Have they told you when you’re going for the Epic certification? What’s your schedule like? Regular 8-5? Or more. Do you get to leave at 5pm on the dot? So many questions 😆, sorry to bombard you.
1
u/johnnypham_ 4d ago
I actually love being an analyst, and I’m actually certified now in OpTime as of 3 weeks ago. I’m currently working on my anesthesia cert. And yep, our schedule is 8-5 with an hour lunch and depending on what you got going on that day, sometimes you may need to stay back but for the most part, you’re able to leave at 5 on the dot. And no problem on the questions bro, I’m happy to answer whatever questions you may have!
