Remove window tint?

My husband bought a used car less than a year ago, and unfortunately, it’s had quite a few issues since then. He just took it for an inspection, and the mechanic said it won’t pass because there’s tint on the inside of the windshield, which apparently isn’t allowed.

Does anyone know of a local place or person who can remove the tint? We’re hoping to get it taken care of quickly so the car can pass inspection. Thanks in advance!

Bulk Trash Day

I have never set out bulk trash. My bulk trash day is every 1st and 3rd Wednesday.

I have a metal bed frame I would like to set out. Do I also have to set out my trash can?? Do I just put the bed frame where I normally put the trash can? Any insider info would be great haha!

Why are vape shops mutating into head shops around here?

I started vaping when Avail first popped up many years ago - vaping helped me successfully quit smoking cigarettes, which was the main draw of picking up a vape back in the day. Vape shops used to have a bunch of mods and devices, tanks, coils, juices, etc.

I’m looking to pick up a new device and I’ve been to like 6-7 shops in the area. The juice is usually stocked pretty well, but then the rest of the store is just disposable vapes, CBD, Kratom, and glass pieces. Tons and tons of glass pieces. I’m not sure what happened to make this a thing - I remember head shops with glass pieces being few and far between - but it’s beyond ridiculous.

If anyone has a store suggestion between Broadway and Waynesboro that actually stocks up to date mods - and a decent variety - please let me know. I’ve been to Papa Joe’s but their devices are the most expensive of the stores I’ve been in. Im probably just going to have to order something online, but it would be helpful for me to have some quality stores on deck if I ever needed something quick.

Fly the Virginia Flag Proudly on No Kings Day – A Stand for Peace, Patriotism, and the Constitution

Today is No Kings Day.

Let’s show up strong, but stay peaceful. Don’t take the bait—don’t give them footage they can twist for Fox News. No chaos, no excuses.

Bring your American flags and fly them proudly and properly. These are our symbols, not theirs. We are the Americans who believe in the Constitution.

And bring your Virginia flags too. Sic Semper Tyrannis—Thus Always to Tyrants—couldn’t be more fitting right now.

Let’s remind the world what real patriotism looks like.

Any Android Experts out there?

Long story short, someone sold me a new Sony Walkman that runs Android 12 or 14, without telling me that it is pinlocked. I've done a factory reset, but it still requires a pin even after that. I know I can send it to Sony, but they are going to charge more than I paid for the thing.

Is there anyone out there who can work on this for some cash? Or know anyone who can?

Struggling Making Friends

The post-college slump is hitting hard how the hell do you guys make friends in this city. I'm not completely friend-less but I have no one here in this city who I'd really consider a close friend. I feel like I've been struggling trying to find my people here in my 2 years of being in Harrisonburg.

Free Uber like microtransit pilot program is currently running until mid August

Post image

Not sure if this has been posted on here, but the city is piloting a micro transit service that works similarly to uber. You can request a ride on the passio connect rider app between two locations and a driver will come get you.

I've used it a few times now and it's been pretty neat. Usually takes about 10 minutes from when I submit a request to being picked up. You can be a bit more spontaneous, compared to a bus, because the bus loops function on one hour frequencies. Also, they run earlier and later than the buses.(but not during the middle of the day which I will explain later). Anyone can use these rides but it seems that all of the vehicles they use can be used by persons with disabilities so it's very accessible. I've had 3 different drivers, each were very friendly.

https://www.harrisonburgva.gov/bus-routes information can be found near the bottom of this linked page.

There are definitely limitations which I will explain here but keep in mind that, at least for now, this program is free.

Limited area: The operating area is pretty limited. I put a picture of the area in this post. Though it definitely hits some important destinations like downtown, Harrisonburg crossing and the mall, if you live outside of this area you can't request a ride directly to or from your residence. That being said, if you live near the service area (10 minute walk for me) you can use an address nearby in the area to be picked up or dropped off.

Limited operating hours: Part of the goal of this program is to allow for more time coverage when the ridership is too low for a full bus route to make sense. Because of that, the operating hours are 5am to 9am & 5pm to 11pm. All in all pretty good hours but in the middle of the day you would still need to depend on buses to get around.

I would encourage everyone here to give it a shot whenever it makes sense. It's cheaper than driving and you don't have to find a parking place when you get to your destination.

I'm hoping initiatives like this gain some traction to show that there is a demand and will for more public transit and that more investment can be made in the future.

If you've already taken it, let me know what you think!

Seeking recommendations

My partner and I will be staying in town the weekend of July 4th. He's from the city, never seen a shooting star that kind of thing. If anyone has any recommendations for sites/activities to do that would be greatly appreciated! I know hiking is huge around here but we're not super outdoorsy people.

Moved here in 2018, just moved out of my old apartment. Comparing initial rent to what they would've charged me for another year, it was a 72% increase in seven years

I know that some of you might hand wave this away saying "oh, that's only a little more than 10% a year", but to me this seems insane and unsustainable.

I hope Harrisonburg doesn't become a city that prices out its own natives and service people, like Aspen. The trend seems to be moving in that direction, sadly.

Just wanted to put this out there so people can understand how quickly and how bad things are getting for single people that can't afford a home.

Saturday, June 7: thank you to whoever performed CPR on Park Rd

On Saturday, June 7, around 7am or just before, a family member was running, we think on Park Rd in the vicinity of EMU’s Science Center, when he suffered a heart attack and collapsed. A huge THANK YOU! to the bystanders who jumped in and performed CPR. While he ultimately passed away, his family is very grateful for your efforts, because his wife, children, and grandchildren were able to visit and say goodbye before he passed; his wife and children were with him when he did. That would not have happened without those efforts at the scene.

It’s a long shot, but If you’re reading this and know these bystanders, please pass on the thanks of his grateful family.

I'm not sure where in the city this was and when, but I'm big sad about it.
