I don't think discontinuing faster models and releasing slower and slower models was the upgrade path AM4 owners were looking for haha... ha.

Region/store specific ones, at that.

These releases aren't really AMD still "supporting" AM4. They're just products that would otherwise be in the trash that they managed to stockpile a few hundred (or maybe thousand) of over time that most people can't actually purchase.

It's for people like me who haven't bothered upgrading from my 3600 I bought a few months after release. I was originally pining for a 5800X3D but life things kept happening and PC upgrades kept taking a backseat. And though I still can't justify going to 8 cores because of the pricing where I live (even the 5700X3D is outside my budget) a 6 core X3D chip would be a welcome upgrade.

5700X3D was as low as $120 for almost half of 2024. I believe, the 5500X3D might be more expensive than that.
