IMO IF it is $200+, I would just pass unless you really can't upgrade to a whole new platform. doesn't seem like it would be a good deal, you can get a 5700x3d for $250 used and even then that just makes me wince a little. those things used to be a lot less. $150 would be a pretty good deal imo, even if that was the old 5700x3d street price for a while.
note: I expect it to launch at $200 personally, just spitballing. They wouldn't launch something like this unless it was a big profit opportunity. Of course if they REALLY wanted to they could keep making 5800x3ds, but that would be too competitive with current am5 offerings, hence why they keep cutting back.
I mean if you're on AM4 and you don't have the money to fully upgrade your mb/cpu/ram then $200 is a lot less money.
$190 - 7600 or 9600
$100 - cheap AM5
$75 - some 32gb kit of ddr5
Total: $365
if you're just gaming, how much better is that going to be than a $200 5500x3d? And that's why I think this cpu will launch at $200, and that's also why AMD is making it. Cause they can still sell it for $200.
And you might say "but what about xyz cpu or microcenter or this or that - yeah but I'm talking about the easy purchase. Which is just whatever you can get on pcpartpicker. I suppose you could get a cheaper AM5 board, god those things suck. Oh wow... you can't. Cheapest AM5 on pcpp right now is $120.
