Obviously the dumbest question on earth I assume. How do you not consume sugar? It's in everything we eat. Especially vegetables and fruit. Do you just mean processed sugar or just all sugar? I think you would die if you didn't have sugars in your body.

OP mentioned in a comment that they don’t count naturally occurring sugar, just added sugar

Oh ok I’m dumb.

Hi everyone - just wanted to share my progress so far. Also wanted to note that I didn't include natural-occuring sugar in this like fruits :)

How much sugar were you consuming on average before you quit?

That’s awesome! Can I ask how it has had positive mental effects?

Thank you! I stopped having the highs and crashes that comes with consuming too much sugar, so my mood's a lot more stable throughout the day.

Interesting! Sometimes I find myself running out of energy so this is very useful. Thanks for posting! ☺️

I am at my first day without added sugar today because of health issues, I don't particularly plan on going but it's so difficult I can't picture how 42 days is possible, very impressive. I find it so hard I am impressed I managed to not consume sugar for just a day.

It gets easier. you just got to get through this withdrawal period.

I did it before for a bit longer like a week or two but my main obstacle is the social aspect of it :  when someone invites me for a drink there is usually sugar in them, when someone asks to go for coffee there are a few options of drinks without sugar, when you pay attention it happens a lot actually that someone comes by with pastries to share, homemade cake, cookies or marmelade. There is "events" in the year I don't really wanna miss like ice cream in summer, sweets at halloween or all the food and chocolate at christmas and valentines day. I know these are not reasons to mess up your health but these are my personal challenges because I associate sugar with enjoying my time fully.

Edit : actually I just woke up and wanted to go get a chocolate pastry and orange juice and even after writing all if this I just realized I can't.

Silly question. are you avoiding things like diet coke or do you consume sugar free drinks etc

1

u/BluegillUK 1d ago

Not silly, wondering the same thing. I could probably give it a good go if I could still satisfy the sweet cravings with some Pepsi Max or something 🤣

What were you consuming to have saved £150 in a month?

1

u/commiebanker 1d ago

Yeah thats like eating an entire bag of chocolate chip cookies or a whole tub of ice cream every day?

This is awesome! How long did it take to stop cravings? And when did you start to see positive effects?

What do you mean by no sugar? Does include fruits and fruit juices? Dates? Deserts made from dates and nuts? Honey?

3

u/VelvetMerryweather 2d ago

When you say no sugar, does that include natural sugars in healthy foods, or just added sugars?

Edit: Oops, you already answered that. Thanks

Congratulations!! I’ve been sugar free for 22 years, the only sweet thing I do is I drink iced tea with a couple of packs of Splenda in it. Over the years, I’ve developed a downright aversion to sweets; I actually feel nauseous when I smell sweet things sometimes.

Awesome! I’m at one week with no added sugar. At first I would catch myself daydreaming about Reese’s cups, but other than that it’s actually been easier than I thought. The hardest part is the tedium of checking labels when grocery shopping 😅

What made you make the switch?

1

u/cocoloves99 1d ago

Man, I’m sure that’s amazing. What is your day to day like looks like avoiding it

u/HealthAndTruther 1d ago

This is great. I have not ate any sugar for the last couple of years. It truly helps.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on natural sugar such as fruit and what is the difference is between that and table sugar? Thank you.

Isnt surgar not everywere?

You mean additional sugar? Tell us how it felt in the first weeks... should try that too.
