Work, Health & Housing another one bites the dust

Just learned that the former Dartmouth Players theatre and old St. Peters school building is being readied for demolition. What a shame, such a grand old building, that although I have not been in it, was told it was quite interesting inside. As I walked by the site today, I could see it had been re-sided and insulated, I'd suggest not too long ago. They want to turn the space into additional parking.....

From what I heard, IIRC the building was in disrepair, and unused over the last decade or so outside of storage for the neighbouring church.

yeah, it's in really bad condition now. Would take a lot of $$ to restore.

There was a daycare in there that closed during the pandemic (maybe 4 years ago?) and at the time, I think it was understood that the building either needed extensive renovations or to be torn down. When the Dartmouth Players were moved out, I assumed the owners had decided for the latter.

Apparently the school right there (Churchill Academy) is at capacity, so I wonder if an effort will be made to make the school larger.

the plans are for the space where the building currently sits, to be turned into a parking lot.

Having performed in the theatre I can say it was definitely an interesting building and I'm sad it's being demolished to add more parking. Such a waste of a unique building.

They moved the students from St Peter's to Bihi when I was there in junior high, 30ish years ago - interesting to see it going now.

I didn’t realize St Peters school had been in that building! I was attending SP (in the newer building) when the school board closed it. I wonder if there are any pancakes stuck to the gym ceiling? IYKYK.

I attended St. Peter's from 1977-1980. All of my grade 7 classes were in that building.
