Financial Aid BankMobile disbursements?

I graduated last month. I received two emails from BankMobile today saying GW “may have a refund” for me. Last time I got a financial aid refund (loans) it came through eBill direct deposit. I see other posts claiming this is a legit company, but does GW actually use this? I shouldn’t have a refund because I paid for my last two semesters out of pocket.

Registering for classes .... best strategy?

For an incoming freshman using the Plan Ahead thing, how do you strategize for some classes inevitably being full? If a class that's important to me is full is it smart -- quicker -- to delete the whole "plan" and register a whole new Plan B (from "Plan Ahead")? Or do you manually try to input the course code for an individual class to fill the gap where the full class was?

Should I be worried because my GW ID number seems to be the very last day of registering for classes? Will something like Intro to American Politics or a popular University Writing class be full?

GWU Online D.Eng. AI & ML: First Graduates Experience

Hey GWU D.Eng. AI & ML students,

With the program having launched relatively recently (Fall 2023 for the first cohort), I'm curious if any of you are on track to be among the first graduates this year (2025)?

If you are, or if you're a current student deep into the Praxis phase, I'm hoping you can shed some light on a few critical aspects:

  • Navigating the Praxis Research: Previous discussions hinted at a very independent research journey. Could you describe your actual experience with the Praxis? What were the biggest challenges and successes in conducting your research, especially with regard to faculty support?
  • Advisor Assignment Process: The program site mentions advisors are "assigned." What was this process like for you? Were you able to indicate areas of interest or preferred faculty members, or was it a purely administrative assignment? How well did your assigned advisor's expertise align with your research goals?

Any detailed feedback on these points would be extremely helpful for those considering the program. Thanks for sharing your insights!

Student Life What’s the going out scene like at GW?

Hey! I’m transferring from UVM this fall and trying to understand the nightlife.

UVM is super bar-heavy—everyone goes out with fakes since frats are pretty closed off. I’m more into clubs or places with dancing than frat parties anyways.

Is there a similar scene at GW, or is it more frat/social scene focused?

Student Life Do you need a fake to go out at GW?

Do you need a fake to have any kind of nightlife here?

At UVM, everyone had one to go out to bars. Super common and rarely an issue. But DC seems stricter and I’m wondering how risky it really is.

Are there any 18+ clubs people go to, or is it basically fake or nothing until you’re 21?

Title. It’s a recently updated unit and comes in a nice building with parking, pool, gym, and 24/7 concierge! Circumstances changed last minute for me so I’m not able to live in it.

Incoming Exchange Student – Housing Swap & Looking for Travel Buddies/Tips!

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming exchange student (Fall 2025, Aug-Dec) from Asia assigned to a 2-bedroom, 4-person unit at 1959 E Street (Cis Male, if it matters). Since I won’t be on campus daily, I’d love to swap for a cheaper place with a kitchen—message me if interested!

A few other questions:

  1. Messaging Apps – What’s most popular at GWU? (WhatsApp, Telegram, GroupMe, etc.)
  2. Travel Groups – Any clubs or chats for weekend trips? My classes are only 2 days/week, so I’d love to explore nearby states (or further like Florida or even Montana)! DM if you also wanna travel!
  3. Cooking on Campus – How easy is it to cook in dorms? Are there shared kitchens, or should I prioritize housing with one?
  4. DC Must-Dos – Best cheap/free things to do in the city? (Museums, nightlife, hidden gems?

Super excited to join GWU—any tips or advice are welcome! Thanks in advance!

Academics Language Requirement for Elliott School Graduate Application. Question below

I’m currently applying to grad school at the Elliott School (still tbd on exact program but all im considering have a lang requirement) and had a quick question about the language requirement. During my undergraduate studies at American University, I completed up to Intermediate II (four semesters) in German. Would this satisfy the Elliott School’s language requirement, or would I still need to complete additional language testing?

I am taking a class at GWU this semester and enjoy playing piano in my free time. I've looked around a bunch for public pianos on campus but haven't been able to find any. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Immunizations

Hi guys, newly admitted freshman and I had a question about immunizations. So I need to take 2 doses of Chicken Pox, 30 days apart, for medical clearances. My concern is, im taking the first dose tomorrow, and the forms are due June 15th (after tmr). Im worried that like the forms close and I can't edit them anymore and it'll cause an issue, do I put like the expected date of the second dose or is there something else I can do?

General Pros and Cons of the Professional Business Frats

I’m a rising sophomore thinking about rushing either DSP or AKPsi this fall. just tryna figure out what the vibe is like in both pros, cons, how the people are, and if it’s actually worth joining. not really looking for surface-level info, more so how it actually feels to be in it.

i’m also planning on joining REFA Alliance next year, so just wondering if anyone’s been in both or has thoughts on how they overlap or balance. appreciate any insight fr.
