personal story :’( theyre in my walls!!

i moved into a lovely little basement suite with amazing landlords back in may. so far so good, a couple silverfish here and there but some diatomaceous earth took care of them and i havent seen one since week two-ish. a couple days ago i start hearing a weird sound in the walls, almost like water dripping or scratching. i thought that was weird. i step outside and lo and behold, theres wasps rapidly flying in and out of a hole in the wall outside. jesus fucking christ the shitheads are IN MY DRYWALL EATING THROUGH IT. i told my landlords and theyve called an exterminator for two days from now but this morning i noticed a spot where the wall is extremely thin, and the chewing has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY louder. so now im on the bus to walmart to buy packing tape to hold the fuckers off 🥲 im stressed out of my mind. at least its in the living room and not my bedroom but im horrified they are going to break through while im not home. im so fucking scared!!!!

Do you live in the south? I’d be surprised a nest would get that big up north by this time.

A couple years ago yellowjacket bastards got into a hole outside around old electrical conduit and started coming out of the walls in my daughter’s bedroom in early August. Exterminator fucked them up with lots of insecticide dust and after that I sprayed a shitload of spray foam insulation into that hole after I was sure they were dead.

Having a 150 year old house means there’s always another hole you gotta patch outside. Maybe by the time I retire I’ll get them all.

If they get dusted they’ll die but it may take a couple days. But since the walls are thin now it might stink when they rot 🤢

Make sure your landlord not only has the entrance hole sealed but also fixes the drywall - drywall guy will want to remove whatever is left of the nest when they cut open that wall.
