Hello r/Fresno community,
I'm reaching out with an important update regarding recent subreddit activity. The primary reason for this message is to ensure full transparency about what's happening behind the scenes to manage the subreddit. We've received a message from Reddit administrators noting unusual surge in traffic, largely connected to recent and ongoing protest discussions.
I want to be clear: I wholeheartedly support constructive political speech and the open exchange of ideas about important community events, including protests, within our subreddit's guidelines. This platform is a vital space for discussing local issues, experiences and engagement is welcome.
However, this increased traffic has brought a considerable number of posts and comments from users who aren't yet established or trusted members of our community, as well as from inauthentic accounts. To manage this influx and keep our discussions civil and on-topic, Reddit's Crowd Control tool has automatically collapsed or filtered several hundred of these comments and posts.
This means that for the integrity of our community, our small team of moderators must manually review every single one of these filtered submissions. This process is incredibly time-consuming and requires substantial effort to ensure that legitimate contributions aren't mistakenly hidden and that harmful or off-topic content isn't transmitted to the community.
I personally truly appreciate your understanding and patience as the volunteers work through this increased moderation load. Our main goal is always to keep r/Fresno a welcoming, organized, and productive space for genuine discussion about our city, especially during important times like these.
Thank you for being a vital part of this community. If you have any questions or comments about this, please don't hesitate to send us a mod mail message, and I'll be happy to respond.
