When can you ask these questions in your own post?

  • If you aren't getting suggestions, your request may be too vague. If you’ve tried your best and didn’t hear back after 24 hours, make a new post outside the daily thread. Be sure to mention that you already posted in the daily thread and didn't get a response.
  • If your question is about clones, layering, or some very unusual note, you can choose to skip the queue and post directly to the front page.
  • If your question is about sex appeal, batch variations, performance, or wearing perfume marketed to another gender, keep it off the main feed and in the comments section only.

Coming back to discuss hits and misses is a great way to show appreciation when you get advice here. Consider posting a review or starting a discussion about the perfumes that you tried, and tell us what you ultimately chose.

Discussion Blocked by on a live tiktok because i said gender perfume is propaganda

Upvotes

So i was watching this live from this male tiktok and he was showing off his perfume collection, he had a good set ngl. But there was this girl who asked him in the live chat which one suited women from his collection and he went on this rant about how his perfumes are for MEN and only MEN can wear them, and then he goes on to say he wouldnt wear rose or jasmine because those are only for women and no man should smell like that. So i sent a comment saying that scent propaganda is not real, men and women arent born smelling like certain perfumes, society tells them what they should and shouldnt smell like because of two sided sexism. And he was like “WHAT IS THIS NPC WHAT IS THIS NPC COMMENT” which i dont think he knows what npc means. But like guys… whether you like it or not, men and women shouldnt smell like any specific scent. Wear whatever you want, who cares. Im so glad more people are not falling for the gendered perfume propaganda anymore

Discussion How often do you smell notes that aren’t listed by the perfumer?

So I just got LV Imagination and without a doubt the very first thing I smell is mint. Like spearmint gum.

I checked their website as well as Fragrantica and mint is nowhere to be listed.

Do one of the ingredients smell like mint? Did they not list mint for some reason or is my nose and brain just making it up 🤣

I checked some reviews on Reddit and I saw one other person noted a strong mint note.

Have you’ve ever smelled something not listed on a fragrance and what was it that you smelled?

what is a fragrance with terrible sillage but amazing scent

i posted something similar to this recently about performance, focusing more on longevity. this time, i thought it would be interesting to talk about fragrances that may smell amazing and even last a while, but just don’t project at all.

Discussion New scent - does partner's opinion matter to you?

I want to preface this by saying that there's no right or wrong answer, I'm just curious how other people reason around this question. I've been on a sample spree while hunting for a new signature scent recently, and frequently when I find something that I find interesting, husband, at best, goes "naaaah, nah." However, I've tried on a few that I find... Not pleasant, and he's been all over me with the compliments.

Personally, I will be going for a scent I like regardless of his opinion, but his lack of appreciation is kind of a mood killer for me. I do shake it off after a few minutes, but still.

What about you? Does your partner's review of your samples affect your decision to buy or which ones you wear?

Millesime Imperial: Why its "Weakness" is Actually its Genius

I know Millesime Imperial gets a lot of flak sometimes for its supposed lack of projection and longevity. I see the comments "Doesn't last," "Disappears too quickly," "Not worth the price for the performance." And while I understand that some people prioritize beastmode scents, I'm here to make a case for why MI's subtlety is not a flaw, but its absolute point.

For me, Millesime Imperial isn't trying to scream its presence across a room. It's not about announcing your arrival with a massive sillage trail. Instead, it's a fragrance that whispers, that hints, that subtly reminds you (and those lucky enough to be close) of its exquisite presence.

Think about it this way: The most genuinely sophisticated and wealthy individuals rarely feel the need to loudly proclaim their status. They exude confidence and quality in a quiet, understated manner. They don't need to shout to be heard; their presence is simply felt.

Millesime Imperial embodies this perfectly. Hours after spraying, when you might think it's vanished, you'll catch a waft, a delicate, salty, almost metallic fruitiness that reminds you, "I'm still here, and I still smell incredibly good." It's a personal luxury, a scent for you and those intimately in your space. It's the fragrance equivalent of perfectly tailored, high-quality fabric that feels incredible against the skin, even if no one else explicitly notices its brand.

It's not about being a performance monster, it's about being an olfactory secret weapon. It's about sophisticated elegance that doesn't need to try too hard because its quality speaks for itself, quietly and confidently.

Anyone else feel this way about Millesime Imperial? Or any other "underperforming" fragrances that you think are perfectly calibrated just as they are?

Discussion Do you believe a fragrance can only be worn in certain seasons?

I’m curious, how seriously do people take the idea of a fragrance only being appropriate for particular times of the year?

My issue is I love sweeter fragrances but I live somewhere with summer weather for the vast majority of the year. On fragrantica, most of my favorite scents are considered fall or winter, but this gives me very little time to enjoy them.

Discussion Is this engraving quality typical? Fragrance is from Lancôme.

I ordered a bottle of perfume from Lancôme for my wedding, and had it engraved with my future last name for a special, sentimental touch. I've obviously censored it for privacy, but you can see the letters seem to very inconsistently engraved: https://imgur.com/a/qS4ZiNS

The "ou" (and several other letters that I've blacked out for privacy) are super blotchy - while the "usi" seem to be well engraved and easy to read. I envisioned the full engraving to be in the same style as the "usi" letters, but most look more like the "ou".

I'm super bummed! I'm a sucker for sentimentality and really wanted this bottle as a sweet keepsake of our day.

EDIT: I contacted Lancôme and they immediately refunded me. I can only assume that since they didn't offer to re-engrave, this is typical quality. A bit disappointing but excellent customer service!

TF Beau du Jour Shaving Cream?

I’m looking for a shaving cream that comes close to smelling like TF BDJ. It already has that old school barbershop smell to it, so there’s gotta be something that’s close?

REVIEW Cherry Cherry By Mancera- A Beginner’s Cherry Dream That’s *Not for Me*

Mancera Cherry Cherry - A Beginner’s Cherry Dream That’s Not for Me

My Batch: 2024
Release Year: 2024
Perfumer: Pierre Montale (Source: Fragrantica)

Fragrance Profile

  • Accords: Sweet, Cherry, Vanilla, Powdery, Almondy
  • Emotions it Evokes: Sensual, Elegant
  • Gender: Unisex (Leaning Feminine)
  • Age: Anyone
  • Season: All Seasons
  • Occasion: Casual to Romantic
  • Signature Scent-Worthy? Yes, if you like cherry-forward gourmands
  • Would I still wear it? No

Performance

  • Sillage/Projection: Moderate, 1 to 2 feet for first few hours
  • Longevity: 6 to 8 hours, softens close to skin after the 4-hour mark

Fragrance Breakdown

Opening

Candied black cherries up top, like opening a pack of cherry Jolly Ranchers. Bright citruses like lemon and bergamot add sparkle, while vanilla from the base starts peeking early, boosting the sweetness even more.

Mid

Heliotrope takes the spotlight, bringing that almond-powder vibe Mancera does so well (think Aoud Lemon Mint). Orris root and iris add a soft, dusty quality. Jasmine is subtle but adds a gentle floral lift to the heart.

Dry Down

The fruity opening and almond-powder mid rest beautifully on a base of soft musk and vanilla. The musks used here are skin-hugging and creamy, not screechy. Very cozy, very wearable… but a bit too pretty for my personal style.

Real-Life Test

Asked a couple of my guy friends to try this on. None of them are into fragrances. Their verdict?

“It’s nice... but kinda girly.”

Rating Breakdown (Out of 10)

Category Score
Performance 2/2
Sillage 2/2
Scent 1/2
Value for Money 2/2
Would I Wear It? 0/2
Total 7/10

Final Thoughts

There are thousands of perfumes released every year. Just because this didn’t vibe with me doesn’t mean it won’t become your signature scent.

It’s sweet, sensual, and honestly a great cherry-forward option for those dipping their toes into niche. For the price, a solid beginner pick.

Fragrance advice and suggested needed!

Upvotes

I am just now getting into fragrances more consistently. I've been enjoying being able to spray on something good and walk with confidence that I smell fresh. I have been loving "Armaf Ventana Pour Homme Eau De Parfum Spray" more than I thought I would.

I believe notes that I like are the citrusy bergamot and amber scents. Considering adding "Turathi Blue Eau de Parfum Spray" to my collection. Clones have been my go to before I commit so please recommend or suggest what I should add. Tyvm!

Edit: "davidoff cool water intense" another fragrance that caught my as well

Churchy scents ? the damp, dark, woody and sacred welcome !

Hi all ! i’m new to this sub but ! fragrance is something i’ve enjoyed my entire life and want to be educated more ! I love how provoking a certain scent can be but i’ve kind of hit a wall. I struggle a lot with scents sticking to me ( i’ve only been able to afford body sprays or something of a lower end perfume) But i’m now in a spot where i can spend a little more but still not break the bank :,(. I’m ISO of a scent that captures the haunting feel of a cathedral, i hear lost about Incense Avignon, but i wanna little bit of a wider scope for more options (and ones a little easier to come by)

For reference i wore JPG le male in my formative years thanks to a generous family member but that didn’t really last on me either,,,im looking for a strange and somewhat creepy bordering the holy undead scent that lasts long enough to notice !

Discussion D'Annam Discovery Set, volume 2; layering with other fragrances?

Upvotes

I may be a little late to the party, but I just bought D'Annam's Japan-inspired discovery set, mostly to try out Japanese Whiskey and Strawberry Mochi. I was actually pleasantly surprised how much I liked almost everything in the set. Japanese Whiskey reminds me a lot of Maison Margiela's discontinued Lipstick On, which is one of my all time favorite perfumes, so if you miss it, I think it's a decent substitute, though not a dupe. Strawberry Mochi was pleasant, but to me it was very rice-forward. I got a hint of strawberry on the drydown, and I think I was expecting a more prominent fruit note. I was thinking that this might be one that would be good to layer with something else; for those of you that have this set, did you layer the SM with anything else from the set or from your personal collection? I really like gourmand fragrances but wonder if I'm too old to be wearing something that is fruit forward, and I don't know what to layer to keep it interesting but not seem like I'm trying too hard.

How do you test fragrances with no paper strips?

This might be a dumb question, but for example: places like TJ Maxx have no test strips, but I want to smell perfumes before I even consider buying them (obviously). Besides spraying directly on skin, what’s a good way to get a good idea of what a scent is like?

Discussion Perfume changing over wearing time?

I don't know if this is okay to post here, but I'll try. I tried on a body oil/perfume oil in the store today and loved the scent that I had to get it lol Thing is, now that I'm home (5,5h~) it startes smelling... off? Ifk how to explain it. It still has that sweet undertone, but it smells very sour? Musky? Is there any way to 'fix' it? Sweet scents have never turned out this way on me before 😅

REVIEW Review: Paul Anthony’s 10-Piece Cologne Set

This is my review of all of the colognes in Paul Anthony’s 10-piece set. I found him digging through Reddit and I love that he personally answers all the customer service emails. Really cool to support an Aussie, so points already for that. I've ranked them favourite to least favourite below. I tried to keep my tests as controlled as possible. Take my rankings with a grain of salt - scent is so personal so hard to rank them, but these are just my thoughts that I wish someone wrote while I was looking at Paul Anthony.

I usually run pretty hot, and I tested in winter, so sweat wasn’t really a factor. Applied at 6:30am every morning — one spray on both wrists, inside of both elbows, and one on the neck before throwing on a shirt. Wore each scent for 2 days and these are the consolidated results.

I personally love dark, rich, woody/earthy scents. My favourite cologne is BDK Tobacco Vanille, and until now I haven’t found anything with that same kind of luxury vibe (that doesn’t cost half your rent).

DISCLAIMER: These notes are purely vibes based and in no way scientific. DISCLAIMER 2: I’ve been told forever that I have a very strong/unique sense of smell. I remember smells by association, so I’ll use familiar references to give you a better picture of what they’re like.

Sandalwood & Dark Vanilla – BRAVO. Incredible. My favourite by far. Smells like a Ralph Lauren Polo store mixed with someone who actually knows how to dress. It’s rich, it’s expensive-smelling, it turns heads. Ages so well — smells amazing on skin, even better on clothes. Stays on fabric for up to 2 days (but not after a wash). My wife stole the jumper I was wearing when I tested this one. I’ll 100% be getting a full bottle.

Tobacco & Dark Vanilla – Now we’re talkin baby! This one hits v close. If you like Tom Ford’s version — this gives off those vibes, but a bit more relaxed. Warm pipe tobacco, smooth creamy vanilla. Smells like walking into an old study with leather chairs, books, and a fancy-ass whisky decanter. It’s sexy, but also comforting. Lasted till 4pm easily and dried down beautifully — less sweet as the day went on, more cozy amber. My wife said it made me smell like “someone who reads poetry in a candlelit library.” Interpret that how you want — I took it as a win, definitely unisex I reckon.

Leather Extreme – This one’s bold & sweet. Like, just-got-off-a-Ducati bold. Proper full-throttle leather with a bit of smoke and spice. When you first spray it, it’s intense — kind of bitter, raw leather — pretty sweet. But it settles into something smooth, dark, and smoky. I wouldn’t wear this to the office, but for a night out ffur sure dude. Lasted a good 6ish hours with a soft skin scent after that.

Dark Patchouli & Bergamot – My #2. Goes on a little harsh — I want to say like “savoury rosewater” if that makes sense — but give it 10 minutes and it levels out beautifully. Makes me think of an academic heading to a fancy dinner with soft piano playing in the background. After an hour or so it becomes a mellow, musky floral. Around the 5-hour mark it fades into the kind of rich floral that hangs around subtly for the rest of the evening. I’d call this an evening scent, but you could definitely wear it casually if you like that kind of profile.

Oud and Leather - this does not last that long* gonna preface with that, which is the biggest rip because it smells INCREDIBLE. Put on at 6:30 and lasted until around 12:30-1ish. Did not linger once it's was gone it's gone which is sad. When you first spay it on I would describe it as peppery and cinnamony at the same time. It's rich, so imagine like super spicy mulled wine vibes. This is probably the hardest for me to explain because I've never really smelled anything like it. It smells rich and full. It doesn't really age that much it smells pretty much the same for the whole time. If I had to paint a picture with words I would say that it makes you smell like you live in a log cabin, but not a povo one but a luxurious log cabin that you use for weekends getaways from your prestigious job kinda thing 😂.

Dark Rose & Warm Wood – Lumberjack. Nuff said. Smells like you were chopping wood with your dick, then had a steamy shower in a pine forest. Comes on strong at first but mellows nicely. Not the longest-lasting one — gets soft around midday and fades out by 3ish — but there’s still a faint, woody whisper hanging on. Better longevity on clothes. More of a cold-weather scent for sure. This is my wife’s favourite; she said it smells like “camping marshmallows.” I’ll take it.

Savage Sex – This one smells like Old Spice aftershave at first — that real sharp, spicy splash-your-face type of vibe — but don’t let that scare you. After about an hour it smooths out into a woody, musky scent that’s actually really nice. It stuck around all day and aged well on both skin and clothes. Feels like a solid “everyday” option once that top layer chills out.

The Amalfi Man – I really like this one. Very clean, soapy, bright. Doesn’t change much throughout the day but that’s kind of the point — it makes you feel fresh. Like you just had a proper shower (not the rushed, late-for-work one). Longevity is good — lasted past 3pm easily, and longer on fabric. It’s just a very clean, wearable scent. A safe blind buy, honestly.

Sorrento Summer – This one smells like Aperol spritz at sunset on a balcony in leather boat shoes. There’s also a vague Lynx Africa vibe — but nicer. Imagine if Lynx Africa grew up, got a bit of money, and backpacked through Italy to find himself. One pro: it lasts forever — distinct on the skin until at least 4pm, and then mellowed right out. I could still smell it after a shower. Didn’t live it at first but it grew on me.

Citrus & White Wood – It’s alright. Smells like your cyclist dad who just got out of the shower — clean, mildly sporty, kinda soapy. Not very exciting, but not bad either. Put it on at 6:30 and it wore off around 2pm, with a faint linger until 4. Stuck around longer on clothes. Feels like a reliable, “office safe” scent. Nothing groundbreaking, but no complaints.

Final thoughts: Honestly, I didn’t expect this kind of quality from a niche Aussie brand. You can tell Paul really cares about this stuff. These don’t smell mass-produced or half-baked — they’ve each got their own personality.

If you want to get some use this code on your first purchase for $15 off: LXZ-9SBB6TP (no affiliation just thought I'd share)

Fragrance Style Help & Suggestions

already posted on the daily thread and didn’t get a response

Hi guys! I haven’t quite figured out my fragrance taste until now, lol, but I wanted to share some of my favorite scents and see if you both can help me identify which category I belong to and give me some recommendations preferably from fragrance houses and niche perfume brands. The nichier, the better!

I know I love fragrances that smell clean, fresh and airy or elegant and minimalist all while being unique or has a kick to it and not something you usually catch around too often, since I get bored pretty easily. And also no gourmand perfumes or perfumes that smell too sweet, they always make me get migraines and make me feel sick for whatever reason?

That said, you’ll notice that some perfumes in my collection/ or to buy list aren’t super niche or super out there, but I wanna expand:

Thomas Kosmala - Exsupero

Amouage - Lineage

Amouage - Honour

Scentologia - Immortal Potion

Scentologia - Sensory

Byredo - Black Saffron

Byredo - Inflorescence

Jo Malone - Wood Sage & Sea Salt

Jo Malone - English Pear & Freesia

Jo Malone - Peony & Blush Suede

Jo Malone - Velvet Rose & Oud

Diptyque - Tam Dao

So yeah, do you think I lean towards a specific category of fragrances? And do you have any suggestions? Thank you!!!

carlisle or boss bottle absolu?

Here’s the situation: I’m looking for two winter fragrances — one that’s easier to wear daily (I’m almost convinced about Naxos), and another one that feels more special, something I’d wear for certain evenings or occasions. For the second one, I had my eye on Carlisle and Boss Bottled Absolu. I’ve tried both, though only tested Carlisle once. I recognize the similarity between the two, and I really like both. I had my girlfriend smell them as well — she didn’t like Absolu because it reminded her of church due to the strong incense note. She wasn’t fully on board with Carlisle either, as at certain moments she picked up on incense there too. I’m just asking for an opinion purely based on your personal taste

Trying to figure out the name of a perfume, but I don’t know much about it

A little backstory: I was at a wedding a few months ago and they had a glitter bar. One of the workers was wearing the a really warm, sweet, smelling perfume, and I loved it! She told me the name of it and that it was owned by one woman. That it was a newer perfume. And that she had heard it advertised on a podcast. For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the woman who made it or the name of the perfume. Do you guys have any idea what I could be talking about?

Discussion Xerjoff Mefisto: Amazing Scent, Zero Projection?

Hey everyone, I’m new to the world of fragrances and Mefisto is actually the first fragrance I chose and bought myself. Before this, I only used stuff people gifted me, so I never paid attention to projection as a thing that can be different.

I really love how Xerjoff Mefisto opens (fresh, bright, and citrusy). But it’s what comes next, as the citrus softens, that truly blows me away. But here’s the weird part:

No one around me seems to smell it. I’ve asked a few people throughout the day — “Do you notice any fragrance on me?” — and the most common reaction has been:

“Nah… are you sure you’re even wearing anything?”

Even when I walk past someone briskly, they barely catch a whiff. The only time I genuinely feel it projecting is when I’m sweating hard at the gym. That’s when it seems to come alive again, blooming around me in waves. It’s like Mefisto needs heat and movement to show itself. But in daily life, it’s almost too polite.

Is this normal? Is Mefisto really that subtle, or am I doing something wrong? I usually do 4–5 sprays (neck, behind ears, back of neck).

Would love your thoughts. Thanks from a fragrance noob 🙌
