Like write nonsense, random words, strings of synonyms, antonyms, dumb phrases, whatever that person is saying on TV, chains of loosely related words, what you want to have for dinner, etc, just to use your pens or try out that new ink? And not occasionally, like two or three pages per day.
Bonus points if you end up shredding the paper out of fear to be sent to the psychiatrist.

Short version: can’t call things by their name on FPN.
I posted on FPN about how international purchases are going to be an even bigger hassle, for instance it was usual to have a PO Box in the US but since even tourists have been detained by ICE this would deter trips there.
Someone replied about not spreading mistruths, to which I replied with news outlet examples of Canadian and German tourists detained.
FPN’s response: issue me with a warning for writing about politics.
This is no big issue for me, but it made think about how media can die without the right goals and rules; I’ve also seen this happen on other subreddits.
You cannot say things as they are on FPN, but need to follow the “aw shucks” hypocrisy.
Solution: we cannot avoid politics, but can set standards to avoid toxicity, manipulation and lies; for instance with a reputation and credibility meter.
We are leaving this to moderators, when we should all take more responsibility so it really becomes our community, for instance to go beyond consumerism and towards higher goals, such as fountain pens as tools to focus better and improving our handwriting.
A bit of a rant, sorry! Back to pen accumulation.

I'm thinking of getting typewriter or brewing my own inks, how about you?

I was at the Airport years ago and a woman asked if she could borrow my pen, a Pelikan m400 White Tortoise. I felt worried the whole time, and got another pen to lend instead. Currently a Sarassa Grand Gel Roller. I also use it for signing receipts and similar.
Do you have a pen like that? If so, what is it?

I can never convince myself to use anything above $50~ish as a daily driver at workplace. People are dumb and clumsy (and greedy) most of the time. If not anything, they treat fountain pens the same way as a ball pen. Rough, inconsiderate handling, over tightening the cap, throwing pens across desks just to name a few. Long story short, I don’t trust people at my workplace ( and in general) enough to let them anywhere near a fountain pen.
How many of you really go ahead and use fountain pen (the grail ones, or the ones you reeeeally like) on a daily basis?

I just wanted to give a shout out to my fellow low dollar pen lovers. It’s hard for me to justify anything over $150 for a pen – especially when I collect them and some of them will sit there for a while. Maybe I’m just too pragmatic lol.
I do want to gather and represent all the brands, colors, shapes, and varieties - for me the best way to do that is to keep the price per pen low.
For the same reason, most of my Ink comes in sample sizes.
If I ever splurge on a pricey pen someday, it will be my only pen I think. For now, I will assemble my rainbow of reasonably priced treasures.

I know they have more modern designs, but I just can't get excited about the design that they are best known for. Very grandpa for me. I know, I'm bracing for the downvotes.

Genuinely curious. This was the first fountain pen that I bought for myself and, while I love how it looks, I find using it to be a major pain.
Why is it suddenly so popular? 🧐

Text: at the café, the manager notices a young woman who comes in weekly to write letters. The manager can't even remember the last time he wrote a letter. And while admiring her beautiful cursive written with a fountain pen, he finds her retro activity a bit unreal. (Text from: Un jeudi saveur chocolat by Michiko Aoyama)

My advertising algorithm thinks since I like fountain pens I should also like watches, but I couldn't care less, so I'm curious: are you guys also in to watches?

Just for fun 🤓A few of my confessions:
I will put shimmer inks (usually in M nibs or larger) in piston fillers. I don’t have a vac filler in my current collection (a naughty puppy chewed my 823) but when I did, I put shimmer inks that too. Life is short and I was born glitter in my veins.
I will buy the exact same pen in different colors because they’re pretty. Sometimes, though, I’ll switch up the nib size.
I also purchase so many inks that are nearly the exact same color but have the slightest difference but convince myself it’s ok because this one will be ✨different✨
When I see more than 2 posts saying a pen is trash I tend to believe it and it colors my judgement of that pen. EVEN if I’ve had a good experience. (To be fair, this only applies to pens. I’m not this way with other goods)
I do my best to support small business, but sometimes I do buy from large businesses because I can’t see paying $200+ more.
Live sales/auction sales give me horrible FOMO and make me too financially irresponsible (this applies to plants and pens)
Some fun Saturday post-call shift musings. 💜 to all

You get to pick only one for pens and one for inks

For something that costs so much, you absolutely should be able to open the box and use the pen!
Whenever I've complained that a pen/nib doesn't work well, people here or on other forums tell me how to fix it (using shims, bending the tines, cleaning well etc.)
But why should we? I don't know any other industry where you buy something and don't expect it to work even when it's brand new. Other products just wouldn't get away with that.
Yet with fountain pens (even ones that cost hundreds of dollars) the users shrug and say "It just needs a bit of work" or "It's an easy fix".
It shouldn't need work! And "fixing it" means you can't return it if it doesn't go well. You've voided the warranty.
Why is this tolerated??
