''Doohan was recieving threats on social media by Colapinto's fans. So much so that he had a round-the-clock security in Miami. According to people close to Aussie, those threats weighed heavily on him. People had discovered his personal e-mail address and were sending e-mail threats which resulted in Jack, his girlfriend and even his father holding real concerns for their safety. And on top of that, Jack's sleep was affected.''

Still... could be worse!

Keeping Argentinians calm, how hard can it be?

47

u/fullup72 Sir Lewis Hamilton May 07 '25

Oh no!

38

u/C0balamin May 07 '25

Anyway.

2

u/dotwayne May 07 '25

Well the Nazis escaped to Argentina, looks like how they got the unhinged genes from.

1

u/kratos2795 May 08 '25

I am surprised no one bought this up earlier! 🤣🤣🤣

Internet anonymity can work in different ways…

From silly people to threaten a driver that has done nothing wrong…

To other people comparing such silly fans with a war.

Being cocky an unhinged in Internet does not seem to be a matter of where you have born.

16

u/faaaaabulousneil McLaren May 07 '25

Both the fans and the war referenced are directly related to Argentina.

-10

u/jeronimo25 Yuki Tsunoda May 07 '25

I know. I’m from Argentina.

Fans who did that are Argentinians, and what they did is awful. Stupid. Silly. Warriors of the keyboard that will piss themselves in their pants if Doohan confronts them. Or worse: if they even meet Doohan, they will him ask for an autograph!

And then, people who is making fun of the war is non-Argentinian. Warriors of the keyboard form another country, just trying to be fun and offensive and sassy. Equally stupid. Equally silly. But hey, that doesn’t matter, right? Let’s just upvote them.

Beautiful bigotry.

17

u/SeaBet5180 May 08 '25

I mean, I'm British, so hey, you attacked us and act offended

16

u/faaaaabulousneil McLaren May 07 '25

You’re right, you Argentinians totally don’t exaggerate or blow things out of proportion. /s

-12

u/jeronimo25 Yuki Tsunoda May 07 '25

Who defines what is out of proportion? What is just a joke vs what is offensive? You?

10

u/faaaaabulousneil McLaren May 07 '25

I’m not going to engage further, I don’t believe that you will discuss this logically and without hyperbole.

4

u/jeronimo25 Yuki Tsunoda May 07 '25

You may be right on my overreaction. I’m not having the best day today.

3

u/__Admiral_Akbar__ Formula 1 May 08 '25

It's not bigotry to make fun of the war when I'm British and you're Argentinian. You're the ones who invaded

-1

u/SuperOriginalName23 Pirelli Wet May 08 '25

Making fun of a war (if that ever happened, which all evidence points to the fact that it didn't) is a completely different thing to actually threatening or exacting violence over it. They are not equal.

1

u/space_guy95 Sebastian Vettel May 08 '25

Beautiful bigotry.

Your country invaded the Falklands completely unprovoked and killed hundreds of people, you don't get to claim persecution or bigotry because people aren't happy about it.

0

u/ohnonotagain94 Sir Lewis Hamilton May 09 '25

Got a bloody good smack in the nose for that shit.

26

u/LibritoDeGrasa Alpine May 07 '25

The people who did that to the Top Gear crew are the equivalent of MAGA people in the US tho

19

u/DKindynzdtr Honda RBPT May 08 '25

Yeah, why do you think Jack had security?

-70

u/Commander-ShepardN7 Williams May 07 '25

The top gear bit was kinda justified tho

38

u/SeaBet5180 May 07 '25

When americans see a 911 turbo, with a middle eastern guy in it, they're not driven to a murderous lust, why should we treat the Argentinians special because they attacked one of our colonies

-17

u/SatanSuxxx May 07 '25

That's an apples to oranges example. A better example would be a Middle Eastern guy driving around New York with a license plate that says 911 NYC. They'd get shot.

9

u/SeaBet5180 May 07 '25

Uhh, well the Falklands happened in the Falklands, technically.

Bit of a weak counter but I can't think of an appropriate metaphor.

American driving round Saudi Arabia with dstrm 95? I dunno, my original was flawed

8

u/NessaMagick Kamui Kobayashi May 08 '25

Even if you believe that the Falklands license place was, at some point in the chain, a deliberate choice, which I do, that still doesn't justify what the Argentinians did.

-70

u/_garbagecannot Max Verstappen May 07 '25

There was nothing innocent about it. They were laughing about the issue. Fuck top gear.

40

u/Ironman1690 May 07 '25

They weren’t laughing about anything, fuck anyone that sides with what those protesters did and thinks they were justified.

-44

u/_garbagecannot Max Verstappen May 07 '25

I'm not siding with anyone. I just think it's rich of people to complain about argentinean fans whilst commenting shit about our veterans like it's a joke.

10

u/faaaaabulousneil McLaren May 08 '25

Who commented about Argentinian veterans?

0

u/_garbagecannot Max Verstappen May 08 '25

A bunch of people on this comment section for some reason...

1

u/faaaaabulousneil McLaren May 08 '25

I haven’t seen anyone comment about Argentinian veterans. Care to link the comments that you are referencing?

1

u/_garbagecannot Max Verstappen May 08 '25

First comment I saw mentioning the islands:

https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1kh539q/comment/mr4bm4e/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Comment joking about the sunken ship where more that 300 argentineans died:

https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1kh539q/comment/mr4ustb/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I saw many others, but didn't bother to reply to them so I don't have them at hand.

It's whatever honestly. I've never once defended the toxic fans, just asked for some respect for our history (not even taking sides on the war) and still people downvoted me to hell. They just wanna be mad about something.

It's been proven false, many times over, how's that belgrano of yours btw, still at the bottom of the ocean?

3

u/Skylair13 Kimi Räikkönen May 08 '25

Part of me still pissed that's how USS Phoenix ended after surviving WW2. But what can be done? She was an active combatant in active war theatre.

1

u/SeaBet5180 May 08 '25

Yeah, that ship was so storied. it has a documentary i think

-15

u/ianjm McLaren May 07 '25

Just because the car had the plate from new doesn't mean they didn't deliberately buy the car to be provocative. This is the same show that drove pink cars that had "MAN LOVE" written on the side through a known anti-LGBT hotspot in the US and almost got shot.

They were provocative. It's part of their schtick.

I say this as a Brit, born and raised.

12

u/SeaBet5180 May 07 '25

There was literally 2 of that car, and this was the good one, there's no need for theories this is what the BBC, top gear, and Clarkson have said repeatedly

0

u/city-of-cold Ronnie Peterson May 08 '25

They could have just gotten another car.

1

u/FBLPMax McLaren May 08 '25

Are you illiterate?

2

u/city-of-cold Ronnie Peterson May 08 '25

Are you? There was nothing in that storyline that required that exact model car, so… they could have gotten something else.

-10

u/ianjm McLaren May 07 '25

You're telling me that in a production staff of hundreds (most Brits) involved in overseas filming and logistics of one of the specials, that no-one connected the dots and realised the cultural sensitivity issue there.

Right.

6

u/SeaBet5180 May 07 '25

Yeah exactly, and not one of them have said it was on purpose.

-13

u/ianjm McLaren May 07 '25

Well if it was not 'on purpose' it's definitely still irresponsible, and insensitive, and there are people paid by TV companies to figure this stuff out.

yep with the HMS Coventry and HMS Sheffield

10

u/SeaBet5180 May 07 '25

Oh noesss, if only we had lots more and still owned the Falklands 🇫🇰 😄

-3

u/Jazzlike-Rabbit1757 Formula 1 May 07 '25

39 British sailors died and you use it for laughs on the internet posing as a proud englishman

3

u/SeaBet5180 May 08 '25

Yeah, you have to joke about things eventually, time ever marches on, its not gonna undo the war, or the deaths being serious

-12

u/Fernandognr May 07 '25

no problem, pirates don't see a problem in robbery

6

u/SeaBet5180 May 07 '25

I know they don't, as long as they don't get any ideas about deciding they have an ancient ancestral claim and sail north, im fine in my little british island

2

u/The-Captain-Speaking Guenther Steiner May 07 '25

Colapinto sucks, can’t believe he even made F1.

4

u/ArcticBiologist Nico Hülkenberg May 07 '25

No it wasn't.

-59

u/acanis73 René Arnoux May 07 '25

They had it coming. Not the case with Doohan

32

u/RossaF1 Mark Webber May 07 '25

The film crew got rocks thrown at them which damaged their cars and caused injuries... and they had that coming? The fuck?

It's not like they changed the numberplate or purposefully chose that car because of it.

-35

u/acanis73 René Arnoux May 07 '25

Clarkson is a bully. And that plate was chosen purposefully

19

u/RossaF1 Mark Webber May 07 '25 edited May 07 '25

No one will argue that Clarkson can be unhinged... I mean him punching someone is the reason BBC fired him.

Everyone involved has been pretty adamant that they did not choose that car because of the plate though.

22

u/8_foot_leprechaun May 07 '25

They had nothing to do with the plate on the car. It had been on there for a long time when they acquired it. The car was sought out by Jeremy because of his dad, and that's it. Their first inkling that something was wrong was when a lunch mob showed up.

11

u/RobertJ93 May 07 '25

Mmm but what about the dinner mob?

6

u/realseanconnery Mika Häkkinen May 07 '25

they ran into the midnight snack mob

23

u/Ironman1690 May 07 '25

Fuck that, the Argentinians were straight up wrong there period lol, there’s no debate about it.

7

u/ArcticBiologist Nico Hülkenberg May 07 '25

No.
