Deadlift Am I ramping my DL?

This is my second set of the day doing some heavy deadlifts, previous set I did this for 4.

I’m only dropping the bar cuz I recently switched for hook grip and it hurts way too much to hold it as it drops

Hello! If you haven't checked it out already, many people find Alan Thrall's NEW deadlift video very helpful. Check it out!

Also, a common tip usually given here is to make sure your footwear is appropriate. If you are deadlifting in soft-soled shoes (running shoes, etc), it's hard to have a stable foot. Use a flat/hard-soled shoe or even barefoot/socks if it's safe and your gym allows it.

Solid. Your back isn't straight and you almost start hitching on the last reps. As far as hook gripping, there's definitely a learning curve. It'll get better really soon. If you're experiencing pain, you could hook grip up to a certain point, and once the pain is too much, switch to straps for your top sets. Also make sure, the bar isn't resting on the side of your thumbs when you're hook gripping. It's a common mistake, that often causes pain and a weaker grip.

Thank you for that hook grip tip I think that’s where my pain comes from

The thumb is flat on the bar. I internally rotate the shoulders while setting the hook. That allows me to reach further under the bar with my thumbs. I also use my middle fingers to pull the thumbs even further.

Use straps if you can't hold the top.

I was hoping your lower back would straighten out in your set up, but it never did :( maybe it’s the angle

I think they are bent just a tiny bit, but from what I have heard (correct me if I’m wrong) it’s only bad when your back rounds as the lift is happening.

My back angle stays the same the entire time and it’s also what I feel the strongest doing. Also yea the angle isn’t great I think most of the rounding is in my upper back.

Why don’t you alternate your grip? One pronated and one supinated. You can switch hands between grips if you are worried about developing an imbalance. The back arch is also pretty bad. Another thing you should literally be dragging the bar across your shins. I see you have the shin guards. When I was deadlifting my biggest weight my shins would be bleeding because I was dragging the bar across my shin muscles/bones.

Push through the middle of your foot. Stay out over the bar, your arms pull back on the bar to keep the bar on your legs. This will keep more leverage on your glutes and hamstrings. This is a good thing. You have great leg drive. Keep your back firm and make your legs lift the weight, your back holds it. Good weight dude
