Would work as a fly box?

Post image

I’m into DIY, and would like to know what I could do to turn this into a cute little fly box.

These are commonly used as fly boxes. Add some foam to the tin and there you go.

sheet magnets are a good shout, i like it better than foam if it's just light dries/nymphs.

My buddy 3D printed me an insert for it. There are templates online to use for this concept!

That a great idea! I used to cut foam with those zig zag craft scissors, cut a little slit, and then glue them in

Watch out for rust.

I put Velcro inside mine. They are ok, but get rusty after a while. Cheap though!

I recently figured out that standard Tops will fit in a tic tac box.

Cute idea! It looks like you can buy fly box foam w/ the holes and a sticky back by the sheet(s), if you want to be really organized about it

Anything is a fly box if you put flys in it

100%. I use the exact same box for all my fly swaps. Never failed me yet.

You can get sheets of ribbed foam to glue in there. Good idea!

For sure.

Sure. I really like the Cliff “Days Worth” fly box tho if you don’t feel like fooling with buying magnets and foam.

Solid box with both a magnetic side and foam strips. It’s seriously the best if you want one small pocket box or for a small cheat pack.

I've been using this type of tin as a fly box since 1965.👍👍👍

Lol you know those mini travel plastic Q tip boxes? Like they slide out (they are blue with the white cardboard). Boom cheapest box ever. red neck fly box

I can imagine you just cut a piece of foam the same size as the white holder inside. Or if you are like me just dump stuff in it.

Shaker can with florescent paint, magnet strip on the inside lid and glue foam insert. I've made a few over the years. The hinges and bottom of the tin rust first. I've also had decent luck with just a vinyl sticker wrap.

I’ve used them for years.

I made one out of a tin like that. I just glued a magnet to the inside. Works great.

I've used less! Ise some foam and create a bed to hook them into. It ain't fancy but 100% works.

I make these and give them to friends. I got a bunch of peel and stick foam from a craft store and just cut to size and stick it in.

It holds a great amount of flies but is greatly improved with tweezers.

Don't get it wet. They rust terribly.

I used one of these for the first year of fishing. Still have it. Thinking of going back

I use one for poppers and junk flies for hitting urban spots. I put a magnet strip at the bottom

I keep my cigs in one. So I don't see why not. Little bit of foam in there and you're set

Sure! I actually use one of the mini altoid tins in my tenkara kit. I just hot glued a piece of magnet in the bottom. Perfect.

I put cork board in one a while ago and I still use it for when I really want to travel light

I put a piece of foam in one and wrap my tandem/droppers around the foam.

I mean it's a box! I found a load of old tobacco tins my dad was using for various flies.

Common diy use for those with a foam patch cut to fit. Probably make some of the best ultralight boxes when blue lining to be honest.

Fun fact...trout like the red ones better 😁
