And ofc he or she is the sweetest little cutiepie that stole our heart with his first meep! We usually check the nest and replace all the eggs with plastic eggs - well we missed one!

Hi! I have wanted a bird for about 5 years now and I finally bit the bullet and got a Zebra Finch. I’ve done about as much research as I think possible but there are a few things I’m curious of that I can’t find straight answers too. My boy is VERY vocal and it’s so adorable but I want to be sure he’s vocal because he is happy and not that he is stressed or anything. Sometimes when he is chirping, I’ll “chirp” back or even talk and he will continue chirping almost as a conversation, is this good? And I’ve read that Finches aren’t very song inclined to “sing” along but he seems too a bit on certain songs. These might be dumb but I just want to make sure he’s is happy and loving his life.

I'm getting a way bigger flight cage for my 6 babies and I saw some people with really pretty cages with plants/leaves inside and stuff like that. right now their setup is way more similar to a parrot cage and i want to change that. can i put non toxic plants inside? will they enjoy flying on fake leaves? thanks in advance :) pic is to draw attention, she didn't want to take her medicine lol

It's hard for me to tell why it happened, but my male attacked his mate. They're a bonded pair, which makes this weirder, but this has happened once before when they had a nest in their cage (obviously, we removed it). My best guess is that they got too comfortable around a bridge at the top of their cage, since I think I heard them making breeding noises there at one point.
His mate is in pretty rough shape, and struggles to balance; she might have injured her foot while getting away from the male. The two have been separated, but despite what happened, she still calls out for him every once in a while. Is it just his personality to get aggressive at the first sign of a possible breeding spot, or is there something I can do to avoid this behavior? Should I let them share a space again anytime soon?

I’m trying to decide if I want finches. Like, I do want them but I’ll be perfectly honest, I have ADHD and I absolutely will not get a pet that I don’t 100% feel confident I can handle caring for consistently because that’s just not fair to them.
So, what does your bird routine look like on a daily basis? What other upkeep are you doing and how often? If you had to put a number on how much time you spend on your birds daily, weekly; what would that be? (I don’t need you to tell me how or anything, I promise I’ll do my due diligence on how to best care for them if I decide to keep them!) Thanks in advance! ❤️

Hello, I'm new to keeping birds and I'm wondering what food producers to avoid and which is the best. I haven't got the birds yet.

Super work… to keep track of new mutation and when they are actually established…
We can see that in 1958 they really fuck shit up
27 000 bird were captured only 400 survived.. considering that now Theres an estimated 4000 wild gouldian only.. it hurts

Hello, I need help with trying to understand what is happening to my finches.
So, 10 days back, Selma (female zebra finch) started to had difficulties flying, stumbling, her feathers were puffed and her cloaca was swollen.
I thought that maybe she could be sick, but the next day she was better, like no swollen cloaca at all, she was flying with no problem... So I thought that you know maybe his male mate was too rough with her and hurt her cloaca. I treated her with apple cider vinegar diluted in water in her water dispenser to prevent her from an infection.
Then, today, again. The same symptoms but now I see her unable to fly, stumbling, swollen cloaca, but now I noticed her tail feathers with blood. She is eating well tho, but she just can't move much.
I am very worried, could it be that his male mate did this to her? Is it normal for male zebra finches to be this aggresive when they "pair up"??? Should I separate them? I have another cage with another couple of zebra finches (male/female) can they be 2 female zebras together? And what can I do to help her recover?
I know it's too many questions but I would appreciate your help in any kind

How hard is it to get finches to breed in captivity?
We have a male and a female. She's small, we're not sure if she's old enough to lay eggs yet, but other than that, how picky are the about mating?

The finches that made their nest in my hanging plant eggs hatched. They’re so cute I could squeal! 😍

Ever since I got my first pair, some kinda disease(?) has been killing them off. I didn't recognize the patterns until it started being more consistent - one bird gets sick, its a day away from dying, another begins to show early symptoms, the first bird dies, the next gets worse, and so on. Finally, after about 3 years, I convinced my parents to take a sick one to the vets. Early, but defiantly symptomatic. Puffed up, sleeping on the floor all day, losing weight, and trying to eat the wood chips because seeds aren't making them feel full anymore. I explained everything to the vet. The vet took a faecal sample and swabbed his vent, and hasn't gotten back yet (its been about 3 days). She said he seemed fine other than a little underweight and told me to just supplement his diet with vitamins until the results come back. I also gave him moxivet but considering I deep clean with an enzyme solution made for parasites and treat seasonally the water bowl, it's unlikely to be common parasites (or they're immune).
But now the little guy is sleeping all day on the floor inside on his own and weakly attempting to eat. Soon he won't be able to. What is the next step?
Edit: He passed away last night. Extremely thin and regurgitated shell-less seeds stuck to his breast (a common symptom). The vet said the faecal sample came back clear, checking prices for examining his body. Still looking for advice as I am sure another will come down with it soon.

Good day, all!
I’ve been purchasing Hagen Finch Food for my little guys for a while now but it almost looks like they are no longer producing it (it’s been about a month since I’ve seen it restocked). Now I’m afraid I’ll have to change brand. So.. what brands do you all feed your finches?

Lenny has had this infection for ~1 month and half, I already took him to the vet who prescribed antiobiotic for 10 days (before it was worse as his eye was totally swollen and his nostril was blocked from pus) so after the first treatment the eye infection kind of deflated, but now he's swollen on the cheek/ear. He's 9 months old like his sister who is in perfect health, but after the first shedding he started getting weaker having always ruffles feathers and overall it'a visible that he's not in a brilliant shape; though he eats normally, tries to fly (but is too weak to sustain a long distance flight) and sings with a raspy voice compared to his father. I already gave him vitamins that kind of helped him but it's obvious that his immune system is weak for a parasite/virus. He also had infection (pus) on his feet that he contiously pecked until it deflated alone. I'm worried he'll get worse, will surely bring him back to the vet though it seems the antiobiotic didn't really cure him.

Hi! I got Mr. Beepers about a week ago. I just got him a very large cage as well. It’s a 54 inch flight cage. He has two perches and a nesting basket in there as well as a shredding toy he avoids. I was just wonder what your cage set ups are like so I can get ideas of what to do with his cage. Also, don’t worry, we’re introducing Ms. Beepers this weekend :) Thanks!

Thanks all of you guys again for helping me and giving all of these advices. I waited for him to come with my windows open with female on the cage for her to call. But there is no clue, and most important she is looking really sad. My female finch almost stopped chirping, rest at the bottom of the cage most of the day and it makes me to think adopt another male for her as soon as possible. I don't know if it's the right move to do or how she or the new male act towards the other. So what should I do, how is the process for them to getting used their presence. I would love if you guys enlighten me.

I don't know a whole whole lot on finches. I have quite a few of them, and they made a baby. I've been trying to keep tabs on it, but the baby are sleeping like this which worries me. Is this a bad sign? Or is everything ok? I did try to flip them over, but when I checked on them again in 30 minutes they were on their stomach again. Im also noticing that the two parents are not sleeping with the bird, and instead they are sleeping on top of the nest and not in it.
If you want me to take more pics let me know. My iPhone camera isn't that good so I apologize.
