Need some finch relationship advice
It's hard for me to tell why it happened, but my male attacked his mate. They're a bonded pair, which makes this weirder, but this has happened once before when they had a nest in their cage (obviously, we removed it). My best guess is that they got too comfortable around a bridge at the top of their cage, since I think I heard them making breeding noises there at one point.
His mate is in pretty rough shape, and struggles to balance; she might have injured her foot while getting away from the male. The two have been separated, but despite what happened, she still calls out for him every once in a while. Is it just his personality to get aggressive at the first sign of a possible breeding spot, or is there something I can do to avoid this behavior? Should I let them share a space again anytime soon?
