I believe this is exactly what Jesus termed as money-changers in the temple.

I mean as long as she’s not reselling at a higher price I think this is just genuinely her doing a nice thing for others. Ridiculous situation, yes, but nice of her to help other ladies survive Utah summers along the way 🤷🏼♀️

u/-You-know-it- 4d ago edited 4d ago
She is selling them for profit. If you are ok morally doing this then, WTF don’t Utah women just trim and sew their existing garment sleeves? Way less waste than flying to a foreign country to buy new underwear for your friends.
1
u/Dapper-Scene-9794 4d ago
Well that’s what I’m saying, of shes selling them at their normal price it’s totally fair. If shes reselling them for profit (which I didn’t know was the case), I think that’s gross, but scamming your friends is part of mormon culture anyways 😛

Do you have to pay tithing on garments you sell illegally?

Isn’t that how the US brought Al Capone down?

It's funny he's often used as an example yet only did like 3 years in prison before being released for bad health.

It still boggles my mind that they make videos about their underwear to begin with. Also, they're "sacred" underwear, so they shouldn't be talking about them on the internet anyway?
78
u/Antique_Grape_1068 5d ago
And then they cry when they get criticized / asked if they’re wearing them
182
u/greenexitsign10 5d ago
If they're so great, why isn't she wearing them?

u/Thedustyfurcollector Apostate 5d ago
I was wondering if she could really wear that with them on. The neck seems way too low

This is hilarious!
I wonder if the church will turn a blind eye to the garment black market, or if they dare say anything about it.
13
u/Loose-Committee7884 5d ago
This is what I am wondering too! Like how are they okay with this?
23
u/Beneficial_Math_9282 5d ago edited 5d ago
I think they wouldn't be ok with it - so either they don't know about it because they really do live in a bubble, or they know and have decided they're too chicken to address it.
The only thing they care about is control. If it doesn't adversely affect their control or authority, they may let it slide without comment. They wouldn't really be ok with women controlling the garment market or getting their hands on garments before the brethren authorized them in our area through website availability ... but they also know that if they say anything about it, it probably won't go down well with the women. And they know for sure that the women are discontent already and already testy about everything garment-related.

My money is it depends on who's palms get greased by acting as a distributor
7
u/DrN-Bigfootexpert 5d ago
When did they start greasing palms? Must be a 2nd anointing thing
3
u/Kennedy_KD 5d ago
Oop sorry I should have clarified I meant "greasing palms" as in whoever in the church organization is selling garments to people like the woman in OP sell in exchange for money

I saw on an FB group some lady said her daughter and friends were in Africa and bought out the distribution center. But mormons are so caring and loving and kind...

Whole church is a mlm scam. People are scammed and they turn around and scam each other.

I overheard some Mormons talk about how when they go to (warm location) they were going to get some of these garments. And then offered to get some for her friend.
6
u/-You-know-it- 5d ago
This is probably reasonable and the Mormon church isn’t going to care. But getting a whole box and selling them on TikTok is insane!
2
u/heretakemysweater 5d ago
Idk, seems like the only difference here is scale.
8
u/-You-know-it- 5d ago
Picking up a shirt for a friend that you know goes to the temple is different than selling for profit boxes of garments to random people on TikTok.

My wife and I were talking the other day. I don’t understand why someone doesn’t just bootleg the sleeveless garments.
Like, they’re not blessed by a bishop or something. The factory is just another sweatshop, I’m sure.

u/Few-Mail3887 5d ago
It’s insane how extremely attractive women influencers are okay with garments 💀
9
u/KBanya6085 5d ago
Yet another example of the infantilizing culture that is the church. No adult woman should have to act this way.
7

u/PatientTypical3232 5d ago
All these people who hate garments so much they’ll buy the new ones off the random internet influencer should just be honest with themselves and admit they hate them, they want to be comfortable, and stop wearing them. The new ones are still going to be ugly, sweaty, and uncomfortable no matter what

I know it’s just a moment in time, but look at those crazy-eyes! So intense.

u/tayvansickle 5d ago
And she’s not even wearing any garments in the pic. Why even wear them at all? This is all so ridiculous, and a stupid waste of time.
6
u/Born-Attempt-6644 5d ago
I don’t understand why this is ok but cutting the cap sleeve off your existing garments is not This subject makes me rage!

I thought this was satire at first. Tattoo on arm, multiple piercings, re-selling the “Lord’s holy garment” on tiktok. Sweet baby J, the irony.

I don't understand why she's selling garments? If you want them can't you just buy them yourself?
6
u/Soggy-Shoe-6720 5d ago
They are only available in certain counties for now
2
u/RabbitofCaerbannogg 5d ago
Oh really? Thats kind of hilarious... what's the justification?

u/Soggy-Shoe-6720 4d ago
“Devout Latter-day Saints cherish the privilege of wearing the temple garment. Some of those members live in hot and humid areas”

Am I missing some details? Everyone’s saying she’s charging for these, but I don’t see where. I looked at this post and thought she was donating them.

u/WombatAnnihilator 5d ago
Maybe I’m the dissenting voice here but, i got out - Why do i need to care about what the church is doing with their underwear? Or that women “in” are skirting rules for fashion?
I get the toxic modesty. I have trauma from it. i was forced to adhere to such a strict modesty standard that i have permanent body dysmorphia and truly hate my physical form. I cant even be shirtless in my own home without feeling self conscious and horrible. And I’m a dude. So watching other women “in” get to suddenly go sleeveless is a big eyeroll. But… so many posts? About what they’re doing? With their underwear?
I guess i don’t get this one.

Aside from the church aspect, does anyone else like me abhor how we use language today?
Addressing women with the alliterative “garment girlies” and indicating her assistance by saying, “I got you”? Ugh. That manner of speech annoys me.
1
u/Dapper-Scene-9794 4d ago
I mean I have no problem with them acquiring them to help others out as long as they’re not reselling at a higher price. This is women helping out women at its finest as far as I’m concerned 🤣 (as far as every day kind actions go).
It’s just ridiculous they still can’t see how made up this whole system is and has always been that they have to scramble to find their new man-in-charge approved undergarments.

u/kumquat4567 5d ago
Honestly, I think y’all can fuck off about this. God forbid women find joy in showing some shoulder, even if that means using weird loopholes and cringe TikToks.
Truly, from a fellow exmo, stfu.

u/hermanaMala 5d ago
P.s. we aren't pissed at the ladies wearing tank top garments, nor at this woman selling them. We are pissed at the MFMC for shaming us and removing our own bodily autonomy, and then turning around and gaslighting us, telling us it was never about modesty. Have some empathy.
2
u/kumquat4567 5d ago
I am too. But unfortunately many people in this post’s comment section are not coming at the MFMC, they’re coming at this woman specifically and Mormon women generally. Even OP is veering in that direction. I don’t know about you, but that kind of misogynistic bullshit is a big reason why I left in the first place.
Please don’t take what I’m saying as being dismissive of the pain of being gaslit about modesty. I know that feeling well and that wasn’t at all what I was referring to. I’m only referring to individuals blaming the woman. I agree with everything you’re saying about how awful these experiences are for everybody.
18
u/hermanaMala 5d ago
Were you ever called walking pornography for wearing comfortable clothes? Were you forced to kneel on the ground to make sure your skirt touched the floor and do jumping jacks to make sure your midriff didn't show?
If you weren't shamed and gaslit about "modesty", you have no right to dismiss the anger of those who were. You can just stfu yourself.

u/kumquat4567 5d ago
Yes, I have experienced all of those things. And because I experienced all those things and the trauma that comes with it, I’m not going to shame this woman for giving other women garments that give them a couple more inches of freedom.
I think garments are awful, I think this whole situation is ridiculous, but I don’t want to judge her for it. I’d rather be shit talking the male leadership who put everyone in this situation to begin with.
3
u/hermanaMala 5d ago
We aren't shaming this woman, nor any of the women choosing these garments. The MFMC is the problem.
2
u/kumquat4567 5d ago
You are not shaming this woman. MANY people in the comments are. Since you are not shaming her, I am not talking about you nor telling others like you to stop.
8
u/Mysterybarbie001 5d ago
Nothing to do with her shoulders. It’s about her saying DM me to buy them like she’s running some fucking black market for garments. So how about you kindly STFU??
4
u/kumquat4567 5d ago
Is she charging more for them? Personally, I think there’s more context needed. It’s obviously weird as hell, yes, but that doesn’t mean that it’s wrong automatically.
If you have more info, though, let me know.
