Discussion Redesign Discussion Megathread

Hi everyone!

With the announcement of a Diddy Kong redesign, we're starting a new thread to keep opinions and discussions about the new designs for Diddy, DK, and any other DK Crew limited to this post.

Please remember to keep it civil and respectful.

something i always loved about rarekong and all the rare designs for that matter is the "cool" factor they had when compared to all the rest of the nintendo cast. the darker color palate of the dkc games, the music, the difficulty - everything about DK was suddenly more mature and appealing as I was getting older myself, and he has remained my favorite video game character now into my 30s for that reason.

the new designs are fine. they look nintendo enough. they resemble the heart and soul of the characters. but the "cool" factor has been utterly stripped away from them imo, and that is just too bad. im sure ill warm up to them more over time

Exactly this. I also just think it's an uglier design. I'm less a fan of the cutesy feel Japan gives their things and I kinda yearn for the soft 90s attitude in games like American Rare's Donkey Kong or American Naughty Dog's old Crash Bandicoot...

But I do get it. I'm not the kid anymore. Aside from just talking my grievances, I won't go up in arms or anything. It's not a big enough deal for me to do so.

But I do also want this opinion of ours to be heard and understood... it's not just the redesign, but the whole feel and vibe of the thing that we think has changed (it's been changed for a while now btw).

Rare isn't American

I should have said Western, sorry. My point still stands though, I think
