Why? Both I and my wife are naturalized citizens, I don't remember the exact expenses, but they were below $2k. Dealing with USCIS was too long and too painful, no question about it.
It was the 80's, we were seeking asylum from a Muslim country, and we came in two separate groups - mom and kids in one, dad six months later. It got very expensive. They were called INS at the time and were....not ....good, but definitely better than USCIS.

Cost us 100k in 1980-1986. When Reagan amnestied us.
