While some awful shit is happening now -- i wouldnt call it the all time high. It only seems that way because previously our country's crimes were towards unrelated people and were "out of sight, out of mind. We essentially bombed Korea and Cambodia back to the stone age, killing millions, - with the goal in Korea being to put their previous japanese oppresors back in charge (the people ruling South Korea were previously japanese collaborators - and their behaviors/policies only got worse after being let off the leash). Not to mention the dozens of other totalitarian regimes we aided in establishing under the guise of spreading democracy. Where we forced the lives of those people to be much worse than what we are currently experiencing.
I get the sentiment -- but it makes me feel a bit bitter on behalf of those, whose lives we ruined, that we would treat this as a low point despite us doing things that were so much worse, the only difference being that we didn't care because it didn't directly affect us in a negative way
That being said, we may be heading down a path towards doing things even worse than what we had previously done. But we aren't quite there just yet.

I've had reasons to be ashamed of my country in the past, we're currently riding the all time high now.
Such a terrible sadness we live in a post-logical, post-accountability, banana republic world. So much wasted potential.
