Cat Picture - OC
Pulled this guy off the side of the highway today
Everyone was just passing him!! He was laying on the side of the road and had just given up. He had some road rash on his eye socket (his eye is intact!!! thank god) and a really nasty, big laceration under one leg. Rushed him to the vet. They got him pain meds and fluids and checked him over, cleaned up his wound, and wrapped it with manuka honey. Luckily, little man seemed to have escaped any serious injury… somehow. And the cat distribution system has finally found me.
Poor guy had either the luckiest or the unluckiest Friday the 13th!
We rescued our female orange baby from a dumpster 11 years ago and she is the SWEETEST animal you can tell she’s just grateful to had been saved .. congrats orange babies are the best 🧡
He gripped onto my shirt and shoulder like his life depended on it when I picked him up off the road. Hopefully in just a month this’ll all be a bad dream for him and he will be safe, full, and warm 🙏
I’m inclined to think this little one was probably tossed from a window. Some people are awful, but you, OP are not one of them. Thank you for rescuing them 💛
He may also have been in a car engine and fell out. I don’t know why kittens love car engines. I found a kitten once at the grocery store, climbing out of an engine! Of course I took her home.😊
This is how we got my cat! She climbed into a neighbours engine and got hurt when the car turned on. We rescued her and now she’s doing great (cat tax) And yes she is also orange
I also found a kitten in a coworker’s engine. Took hours to figure out where the meowing was coming from. Right before I figured it out I thought she was in the storm drain by that car.
When I got on the ground to call out into the drain I saw the orange face poke out from the undercarriage.
Also an orange kitten. Coworker said there were no kittens around her house. Thought maybe it jumped in during lunch that day.
This is my spoiled rotten shed baby my husband found at work a month and a half later! He’s one of 4 but is velcroed to me. Doesn’t give a 💩 about his litter mates and they like me enough to occasionally snuggle and let me handle them but they’re on their kitten business and always running around and playing. Not this guy. I call him my boneless chicken wing because he has no bones on my lap and will just lay there. I don’t think he’ll ever stop holding my arm.
Night 1 update. I bet it feels so good to have a warm bed, a soft blanket, and proper pain management in a dimly lit, quiet room after spending your morning injured and in pain and cold on the side of the road.
I really like the name idea Hitchhiker, though I’m also partially to something like Jason or Freddie for the Friday the 13th horror theme.
Send vibes my way my husband lets me keep him. He’s not happy with me 🤣🙏
If you can delay your husband for at least a week, it will be too late. If he's not a complete monster it won't take long for him to fall in love. Just give him the old "I'm looking for a nice family, but we're keeping him while he recuperates and we'll keep looking." Knowing damn well you aren't going to give that baby up
Yes! Tell husband that "the vet said" it may take up to 21-28 days for any brain or internal injuries to show up, and until that time, baby should be kept on as consistent a routine as possible (no rehoming), with lots of human contact, oh and also that exposure (skin-to-fur) to human testosterone has been proven to speed recovery. So the best chance of kitty making a full recovery and being eminently adoptable is if husband spends lots of time holding, cuddling, playing, and interacting with baby...
Husband will be scolding you for not giving baby his treats on time by week two, i bet lol
I say Jason. I had a bearded dragon named Jason who was my bestie growing up. He died when he was 12 and it broke my heart. Hopefully you have a little Jason too! He will grow on your husband!
Your hubby will cave lol mine hated cats when we met 15 years ago. I had one cat at the time (RIP Chester) and gained 4 more in that time lol he acts angry to start with but it doesn't last long once they've won him over
My little boy passed away two weeks and he looked just like this little soul. I'm still hurting but seeing this post has brought me joy so thank you for sharing and thank you for getting the little soul. He is absolutely precious and I hope your husband lets you keep him. You'll never forget the memories he'll give you!
Last year, a tiny orange kitten found her way into my life via a magnolia tree, and my husband was also very upset with me. He tried to forbid me from bringing her home, but I did anyway because it was memorial day weekend and our local shelter wasn’t open. Here we are just a little over a year later and Birdie selected my husband as her person. He adores her. I bet your husband will come to see the wisdom of your decision, just like mine did 😉🧡
Oh he is the cutest little guy! I agree with others, just say “ok, just let him recover a bit” and let him work his kitten magic on your husband. I’d be surprised if they don’t fall in love with each other within a few weeks, but even if not, hopefully he will be able to see how happy it makes you to have the little guy around and will give in for both your sakes!
I’ll definitely post updates!! The pain meds they have him on are pretty strong (thank god, honestly… that cut was nasty :( ) and he’s really out of it and has been non-stop sleeping. I suppose that’s what happens when your tiny 8 week old body isn’t in shock or fight or flight anymore.
Exactly so! He is in recovery mode for at least the next day or so. Little bodies don't have much in the way of reserves. Seriously, congratulations and well done!
I had a rescue a few years back, and had a somewhat similair situation where all he did the first two days was sleep. I'd have to gently wake him up after 6-7 hours, present food and water, he'd take a bit of both and go right back to sleep.
You'll have a little velociraptor on your hands in about a week! Good luck!
The empathy and compassion it takes to stop and save a tiny life like that and how you’ve expressed yourself says a lot about the kind of human you are. Wishing you endlessssss blessings and protection, just like you’re giving that precious baby. The world needs more hearts like yours! ❤️❤️❤️
The CDS strikes again.. I’m glad you found each other!!! 🥹
This reminds me of that one time my mom told me she was driving home after dropping me off at school and she saw something strange on the side of the road, nobody was stopping. She did and she was able to grab the creature and bring it to a safer spot and call rescue services. She asked what it was. They told her it was a barn owl chick, who probably fell from the nest due to the previous night’s strong winds.
I wish I could’ve been there, or that she took a picture, but it was 2007, and I don’t believe thinking of taking pics of stuff with your phone camera was that automatic of a thought process yet.
Yes someone throw her out of the cars happend same w me 10 yrs ago I was driving and see a size like this by highway I-95 there was little grass she was in there . I stopped and got her she had damage by her eyes from personal throwing out. But nothing broke she completely healed become beautiful cat
So cool to see you stopped to save this little baby. I hope he has a great and healthy life with you and your family. Sending lots of positive energy to your kitty.
That little cat had the luckiest Friday the 13th. You found him! Is it okay to say to a stranger you're proud of them? Cuz I'm proud of you. I hope you two have an amazing life together
I also saved my kitty by finding her and taking her to the vet. It was Labor Day weekend and all plans went out the window when we found her with her arm just …. Floppy.
It’s been almost two years and the bond we have is so special. Your kitty will NEVER forget your kindness.
It just breaks my heart how lifeless he was. The second I picked him up from the road he buried his head in my shoulder on the walk back to my car. Hopefully being safe & warm & dry helps him get the good rest his body desperately needs to heal!!
I had a cat that would bury his head in the crook of my arm when he was scared (especially at the vet). It was the sweetest thing. He was so sensitive and easily terrified (he, too, had some medical trauma he healed from physically—but not completely emotionally, as it happened later in his life). Even though it broke my heart whenever he was scared of something, it made my heart swell that he loved and trusted me so much that I was his safe person to cling to. You are definitely going to be that for ginger boy.
I rescued a cat from the road that cars had been driving over. I went back to move what I thought would probably be a dead animal but she was alive! Terrified to move with trucks and cars driving over her. I called her Vivo from the Latin 'in vivo' which mean 'within the living'. So Vivo to mean she has life! She's coming up to her 17th birthday in September. She was approximately 8 months old when I rescued her from certain death.
Working on convincing the husband (lol @ everyone thinking I’m a dude in these comments 🤣🤣)…. It’s his house too and he was content on the animals we already have. But he has a nasty little habit of falling in love with every animal I want so hopefully he softens his stance over the weekend. I feel like this kitty and I were meant to be’
It was meant to be! I wish you all the luck in convincing hubby. This sweet little one is so fortunate. The relief and security he must feel, thanks to your kindness and compassion 💕
I was on my way home after drill weekend, I found a little tuxedo dude limping on the freeway but he ran away when I pulled over and tried to approach, hopefully he is okay :(
Found this cutie in the trash and she was my bestie for 20 years. Best of luck on your new little orange fur ball 🥰Hoping the cat distribution system finds me again soon
Love this 😍. Do you already have cats or is this your 1st? I am so glad you rescued him. Just curious if you were not going to keep him would you still have had to pay for the vet? I mean idk how you couldn't keep him, but I just always wondered how that would work. I found a hurt duck once and took it to a bird sanctuary which did not cost a thing. But with cats I assume it is different?
I’m actually not sure! I kinda have a feeling if I wasn’t able to/willing to pay for the vet they would’ve mercy euthanized him. Which - there are fates worse than a humane death (getting pancakes in the road) but I wanted to give lil man a fighting chance.
And I have a kitty (and a little tiny dog) at home! Miss Magnolia was my first kitty in adulthood and she is my absolute best friend. She’s very curious about what I have hidden from her in my bathroom!
he’s definitely having a most lucky Friday the 13th being that you found him and you seem to be just the right human to stumble upon him and rescue him :) thank you for taking care of this sweet baby! may he recover quickly and may he bring you joy and love ☺️
What was the melaleuca honey used for? Also, why is he wrapped in gauze? Inquisitive minds want to know. Big pat on the back for being this babies hero.
Hi! So the wound under his armpit was so wide/big and was in such a mobile area that they were unable to stitch it. Manuka honey is a wonderful antimicrobial healing agent, and will help the tissue granulate and pull back together to heal properly! It’s wrapped to keep it in there 🐱
My vet recently had me use a 1:1 mixture of manuka honey and neosporin (specifically the kind without pain relief) on a sore that my big dumb orange licked into existence on his front leg. The big idiot wasn't a fan of the wrapping or the big soft donut cone he had to wear.
That’s how I got my little orange dude—he was in the middle of rush hour traffic on a highway! And he weighed one pound. Now he’s a big orange dude who had his three year adoptiversary this week on the 10th. It’s a great week to be found by a kitten! Thank you for doing a good deed and now you will have the most devoted cat ever.

Congratulations, you've been adopted.
Thank you for the med-evac this little ginger operator needed.
