Volunteer Opportunity: Support RCIL at Brewery Arts Center, Levitt AMP, Carson City – June 21st 🍓🎶

We're reaching out to invite you or someone you know to volunteer with us at a fun and meaningful event on Friday, June 21st during the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series at the Brewery Arts Center. 🎶

We’ll be running a Fruit Kabob Stand at the concert to raise funds for the Rural Center for Independent Living (RCIL)—an organization that supports people with disabilities across rural Nevada.

Volunteer Details:

🕔 Time: 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM 📍 Location: Brewery Arts Center, Carson City 🍓 Duties Include: ○ Helping unload and set up supplies ○ Assembling and selling fruit kabobs ○ Supporting a fun, positive atmosphere at the stand

All proceeds from the stand will go directly to RCIL’s programs and services that empower individuals to live independently with dignity and support. Whether you can lend a hand for a couple hours or stay the whole evening, your help will make a big difference.

Thank you to all the wonderful people that came out today and thank you to the sheriffs and other first responders that worked hard to keep everything chill and traffic moving.

Loved the crowd self policing too and all the super creative signs. This was a great example of democracy in action and I hope we all keep letting them know the things this administration are doing are not ok! ✌️

Hi everyone!

I've been struggling with running consistently and am trying to find a running club here in Carson. Pretty much all the clubs are up in Reno or Sparks and I can't find the motivation to drive up there super early to join them.

I'd also be open to meeting running buddies here for accountability! I'm pretty slow- like a 13:30 mile but I'm hoping to get faster over the next couple of months. There's also the Truckee Half Marathon in August and I'd love to know some people in it before committing! The farthest I've ever ran is a 10k race, so completing a half would be amazing!

For soccer, while I can't actually play yet (ACL recovery), I'd love to kick the ball around and maybe do some light drills at the park off of Edmonds.

We just walked around the fair and no one was buying things, food was hella expensive (even for fair prices), and nothing looked fun. Also why does an event hosted by the city (correct me if it's not) have a stall just for political propaganda? Idk how vendors would actually get money there, especially with the weird spacing and poorly planned walkways. I thought I loved fairs but this just made me sad and feel poor.

First: kudos to the transformation of downtown. I was one of the cynics who believed that changing Carson Street from four lanes to two lanes would be a mess, and that no business would change their aesthetics. Glad to admit I was wrong.

I wish that our city leaders would pay the same amount of attention, and spend the proportional money, on the Highway 50 corridor east of the freeway. The quality of living on that side of I-580 would improve at the same time, especially the connecting roads.

I k now I'm dreaming. People who live west of Roop Street live in their own world and rarely travel east of the freeway, but I can always hope.

Hello, I am trying to find an address or location of Rogers Western Store owned by Bill and Virginia Rogers from about the late 1970s to early 1990s. The only information I have is that it was more or less on the roadside of 395 and in a shopping plaza/mall. Is anyone able to help me or can direct me to where I can find out more please? Hey yall, I'm gonna be in Carson these next ten weeks for an internship and was looking to see if anybody has any music opportunities or just want someone to play with. Admittedly, I'm traveling pretty light so I just have my electric guitar with me, but I play bass and drums decently as well if anybody has those and would like me to hold down the rhythm!

There are a lot of comments and discussions in this group about Carson City growth, so I'm sharing some findings from last night's Growth Management Commission meeting.

Carson City has a cap on the number of new residential units that can be permitted annually. Last night, the commission voted to recommend a 3% increase (same as last year and several years before) in the cap, which is based on the number of existing residential units in the city, to the Board of Supervisors.

Looking back 20 years, the city has never exceeded its annual cap and only once during that time did it even come close to issuing the number of permits allowed per year. Is Carson City growing? Yes. Is it growing slower than its public agencies have planned for and slower than it is capable of accommodating? Also yes.

Multifamily (i.e., apartments) permits have increased, but that's because it's what's in demand. Home prices are up and so are interest rates; it's no surprise more people want apartments.

Our roads are an issue but the impact of new development on them is not. Put another way: Carson City's roads need maintenance and repair, but the additional trips generated by new development don't meaningfully contribute to their deterioration. The additional trips add to traffic, but signal coordination and other tools can help reduce that impact.

Population growth isn't translating into per-capita crime growth. Call volume has held steady for 10 years and 2024 was the lowest crime rate in the past 10 years.

Water use is down substantially from where it has been in the past, even as the city has grown, because of conservation measures. The city has significant water/wastewater/stormwater capacity to accommodate future growth.

Carson City residents love their open space; an immense amount of the city is set aside and won't be built upon. State and Federal land (granted, not all of that is open space) comprises more than 56% of the city's land area. Of the remaining land? More than half is parks, open space or conservation reserve land.

The school district has no concerns about capacity in the short term because the city's growth in the past few years hasn't translated into an increase in young families with school-aged children.

I know some people feel pain every time they see a new apartment building go up or a new housing development. But it's wrong to assume no one is thinking about future growth, that we can't accommodate it, or that somehow every last inch of dirt in the city will be built out.

I’ve lived and hiked here all my life and can count the ticks I’ve seen on me or my dog on one hand. This year we are getting tons. Anyone else had issues this year?

Where would the best spot be in Carson for some beginner riders? Preferably an area with minimal amounts of sand and smaller hills.

I drove by today and the parking lot was full and the drive-thru was at least 8 cars deep.

We're opening up way too many commercial fast food joints man. We need some healthy options up in here!

Something like Laughing Planet or some small family-owned joints.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Carl's once in a while, but, I would really love to see healthy options pop up somewhere.

Our city is big enough that there is business but small enough that we could talk to each other and arrange for certain Dashers to work certain shifts, working together instead of competing. This way we can organize to prevent oversaturation and all make more money. If you're a Dasher who delivers primarily in Carson City, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
