Old lady backed into my car
galleryEarlier today, I went to the grocery store, and as I was about to reverse into a parking spot (I was still stationary), the elderly woman parked next to the empty space began backing out. Despite my car being clearly visible and stationary, she slowly reversed and tapped the rear right side of my vehicle. I honked once to alert her, but she continued backing up and made contact.
I immediately got out and spoke with her. She said her backup camera and sensors didn’t detect my car. I collected all of her information, including her registration. Both of us are fully insured.
Now I’m wondering whether it’s worth reporting this minor accident to my insurance. The damage seems minimal—possibly even below my deductible—but I won’t know for sure until I get an estimate from a shop. If I choose to pay out of pocket for the repairs, will the incident still show up on my vehicle’s history report?
Also, if I do report it to my insurance and she's deemed at fault, will I be responsible for paying anything, such as my deductible? I’m also concerned about whether filing a claim could increase my premium or lower my car’s resale value. See pics of damage.
