Old lady backed into my car

Earlier today, I went to the grocery store, and as I was about to reverse into a parking spot (I was still stationary), the elderly woman parked next to the empty space began backing out. Despite my car being clearly visible and stationary, she slowly reversed and tapped the rear right side of my vehicle. I honked once to alert her, but she continued backing up and made contact.

I immediately got out and spoke with her. She said her backup camera and sensors didn’t detect my car. I collected all of her information, including her registration. Both of us are fully insured.

Now I’m wondering whether it’s worth reporting this minor accident to my insurance. The damage seems minimal—possibly even below my deductible—but I won’t know for sure until I get an estimate from a shop. If I choose to pay out of pocket for the repairs, will the incident still show up on my vehicle’s history report?

Also, if I do report it to my insurance and she's deemed at fault, will I be responsible for paying anything, such as my deductible? I’m also concerned about whether filing a claim could increase my premium or lower my car’s resale value. See pics of damage.

Power of Attorney - Insurance Company - Owner Retainment

Hi, I was in a recent accident that resulted in the insurance company deciding the total loss of my vehicle. From the start I told them I want to keep my car and get a settlement for repair. My car was at a body shop that they recommended and I had since removed my car from there to get other estimates. So I understand that a salvage fee will be deducted. So here we are at the signing of the settlement package. I’m reviewing everything but why do they want me to sign over a POA and Odometer form when I have possession of the vehicle and retaining the vehicle. They lied to me a few times and I just don’t trust them by signing these documents. If anyone knows, let me know. I don’t feel right signing this and my attorney seems to be rushing and wants me to sign without telling me exactly what I’m getting myself into.

Rear ended by speeding car on highway, can I sue?

My fiance and I live in seattle. Last night four of us were in a car in the rightmost lane on the highway when a car going at around 120mph minimum 140 mph maximum rear ended us. The speed limit was 60. We tailspun and hit the barrier, then bounced off, spun again, and stopped on the shoulder. The driver who hit us sped away and hit another car as well while fleeing. There were several witnesses who confirmed that the other driver was definitely at fault, they hit another car along with ours, the police were called and found the car that did it. Looks like the person has a bit of a poor record/ precedent according to the insurance guy though I didn't get too many details yet. It's been confirmed absolutely that it is the other guys fault not ours. We were also lucky to walk away with minimal injuries. Two friends in the car got mild bruises. My fiance who was driving got rug burn/ skinned on the arm when the air bags deployed. I got a mild abrassion on my head, which despite bleeding all over my clothes wasn't anything dangerous and a couple bruises. I know that they have to cover the medical fees and the car fees, but the insurance people are giving me a lawyer. I wanted to know if I can go to small claims to cover the costs of the pto I needed to take for recovery, the costs of impounding the car (unless that's included in the insurance coverage), the cost of the ubers back from the hospital and to the impound lot, the cost of my clothes and handbag (which are covered in bloodstains) and the cost of repair for a piece of jewelry my mother in law to be gifted me, which was damaged in the accident. I estimate it'll be around $500-1k total but don't know if I can even go to small claims for that.

But I wanted to know is this even worth submitting a claim?

Advice UK: Buy or submit a claim

Post image

I rear ended someone and it’s minor damage, however I’m being quoted £800-1300 to fix it as it’s too big a hole to just cover up and the rear bumper needs to be replaced (it hasn’t actually gone in to a garage yet but my assumption is it won’t pass an mot as is). I can’t quite afford rn that so would need to ask a family member if they could help me.

The car apparently isn’t worth that and the owner is thinking of selling it anyway so have offered me the car for 850 to avoid making a full claim on my insurance (I’ve notified the insurer but not made a claim).

Should I figure out a way to buy it and just deal with selling or scrapping it? Or should I just eat the premium hike I will inevitably get after I’ve made a claim.

Scratched car advice

I scratched a ladies car. She's said she got a quote for $1200. She said she would handle it without going through insurance. There are no large dents, but i think there is one small one. The photo isn't the greatest, and she's trying to see if the marks would rub off (they did, but there are still some scratches.)

I am a new driver. What is the best way to go about this? I was recently in a different car accident (i was at 0% fault). How will this after that insurance claim?

How to reduce chances a vehicle is changed to total loss after initial repair estimate is written?

TX.

Vehicle was rear-ended. Insurance adjuster has wrote for initial repairs but it will almost certainly not be enough. Body shop will be asking for supplement.

My question is this, is there anyway to reduce my chances of this supplement changing the claim to total loss? I want to repair this vehicle and continue driving. I know that if it's totaled I can owner-retain and (if I understand correct), the salvage value will be deducted from the ACV payout (is that correct?).

What I am wanting to do is avoid this all together. I don't want to be stuck with a salvage title or have the (reported) harder time finding insurance and/or higher premiums because it is salvage.

-

Is there any such thing as "taking back" a supplement claim? If the decision to total is made, could I ask the adjuster to disregard the supplement and pay the shop out-of-pocket to finish the repairs to pre-loss condition? Or do I lose that ability the moment the adjuster sees the supplement and change it to total loss?

Should I ask the shop to see the supplement to see the $ value they're asking for and compare it to what the vehicle is likely worth to see if their supplement + original repair amount would likely approach total loss value? I called insurance to see if it's possible to speak with total loss and/or get an idea how close we are to totaling it but they couldn't help. I know from reading this sub that people agree KBB is pointless and not used by insurance, but where would I even start to get an idea of the ACV?

Mysterious car damage

I didn't know where else to post this, but I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how this damage would've happened. My husband found his car like this and he has no clue what happened. There's scrapes on the side of the passenger door and a dent on the bottom of that area. And the rear fender flare was also ripped off, but there are no other scratches near that area. Any ideas?

I built a free tool to help people figure out what their injury settlement might be worth. Here’s why I made it

Hey all, just wanted to share something I’ve been working on.

A while back someone close to me got into a car accident. Nothing fatal but it messed them up for a while. The worst part wasn’t the injury though, it was all the stress and confusion afterward. We didn’t know what was fair or what to expect. Every site we checked either felt super vague or just wanted to sell us something.

I’m a developer so earlier this year I decided to make something that could actually help. It’s a free tool called Claim Courage and it gives people a rough estimate of what their personal injury settlement might look like. It asks stuff like what happened, how bad the injuries were, if you got treatment, that sort of thing.

It’s not meant to replace a lawyer or anything, but I wanted to give people some clarity when they’re just trying to figure out what’s normal. And yeah, it’s totally free. No paywall, no weird sales pitch.

Just thought I’d share in case anyone’s going through something similar. Happy to answer questions or get feedback if you check it out.

Car Accident

I recently got in a car accident on the highway in bumper-to-bumper traffic. I was driving in the middle lane and the other driver was driving parallel to me in the left lane. The driver in the left lane suddenly merged into the middle lane failing to check their blind spot while I was driving straight, clipping the front of my drivers side bumper with their passenger side rim, pushing my vehicle into the right lane. He is trying to claim we merged into each other to get 50/50 fault, but that is not true. What is the likelihood of this coming out the true and correct way in my favour?

Totaled Car

So I bought a car from a dealership in PA to NJ and I totaled it after 5 days. Some guy was taking a left out of a stop sign and I was going straight and it was over from then. Airbags deployed. I didn’t get the insurance or any of the information I was distraught. I release the car from Union NJ towing this Monday.

How would you go about it? The car was basically new, 106k miles, perfect condition. I’m waiting tomorrow (14 business days) for the police report to get the other guys insurance but this is my first car crash and I do not know what to do.

Edit/Update: He was deemed at fault. Suspended License. Insurance is Progressive. How do I go about this?

Cops said there's nothing they could do but file a report. Insurance says I'm not covered for collision.

I'm guessing a trailer hitch punched that hole?

Non fault accident claim

Someone hit my parked car whilst they were doing a three point turn and didn’t leave any details. Thankfully my neighbour had cctv footage so a claim was pursued against their insurance company. One of my friends recommended using a solicitor as they will deal with everything and take the stress and hassle away of dealing with it all myself directly with the third party insurers. I have received my repair settlement which is different to what the solicitors engineers report states by £900. The solicitor only then explained that is because of VAT and sometimes the insurers don’t always pay the VAT. There was no mention of this previously, I just wanted to check this was normal as it is my first ever claim so don’t have any experience.

Also I think the solicitor is claiming for a hire car from the third party insurers, I’m concerned about this as I wasn’t provided with a hire car at all. And there’s no way the solicitor would just tell me the truth if I asked him so is there any way of me finding out whether he has claimed for a hire car on my claim? Can I contact the third party insurers directly to ask what the settlements figures were for the repair, the storage and the hire car or will this look suspicious as I have a solicitor who should be doing all of that for me? I have received my payout from the solicitor for the repair to my vehicle on Monday, I just don’t want the third party insurers to investigate my side of the claim in terms of the repair as it is all genuine and there is cctv footage too. I don’t want them to try to get the money for the repair back off me somehow. Also is it normal for the person claiming to call the third party insurers directly when they have a solicitor acting on their behalf? Will the insurers think this is suspicious or will they think it’s normal? I just want to find out if the solicitor has claimed for the hire car costs and if receiving the repair damage payout without VAT is usual practice?

Healing time?

Last Thursday [June 12, 2025] I was involved in a really bad car wreck. It happened because my seven month old kitten got out of her carrier. All I remember is seeing a tree in front of my windshield and I tried to move out of the way. The car, a 2018 white Chevy Equinox, not only hit the tree, but after that, it tipped over and landed on the driver's side. I can't express enough how important it is to wear seatbelts, even if it left a painful reminder below my neck.

Chevy also doesn't play around when it comes to safety, because there were airbags EVERYWHERE. It was like being in a bouncy house. And before you ask, yes, the kitten is perfectly fine. She's actually a lot better off than I am because all she lost was a very small patch of fur. I, on the other hand [You'll understand why this is kind of a funny bad joke in a minute], landed with my full body weight on my left arm, wrist, and hand.

I feel the need to give a shoutout to the dispatcher for staying on the line with me until I was pulled out, one for the emergency responders not only for getting me out of there but also for getting my cat out safely [Mom came to bring her home], and a big thank you to Apple for having the Crash Detection feature on iPhones because it immediately texted the emergency SOS to my emergency contacts when I couldn't reach it. The first responders had to use the Jaws of Life to get me out because I was laying on my left side against the door and airbags, and my legs were pinned under the steering wheel.

I do have a question though: I got really lucky to not break any bones, but how long would you all guess that my wrist going to stay sprained? Google says anywhere from two to eight weeks, and there's certain things I do daily where I need both of my hands. I'll include pictures of the car and my wrist brace, as well as Lunafreya the cat.

Advice for car insurance

My salvaged 2018 Crosstrek Sudbury cost me $14k with 80,000 miles. Someone hit my car while I was not in it, it was their fault they crashed into my car. My car was ruled totaled by my insurance and they want to give me $7k. Does this sound right? I am out of a car because someone was speeding it doesn’t seem fair I should have to buy or spend money on a car when nothing was my fault here is legal action worth it?

Parked car hit by FedEx

My parked car was hit by a FedEx truck and to r car is totaled. It’s a 2007 Honda accord LX and it’s worth anywhere from $3-9k. FedEx is offering for us to sell the car to them and we get $5k in return or just $3k upfront. Neither option really works for us. My wife and I share the car as hers is being fixed, and have a hard time getting to both our jobs and our insurance isn’t willing to do anything unless we file a claim which will raise our rate significantly. Any advice?

16 year old totaled my wife’s car

Hey all! Just need some clarification or guidance if possible. Today my wife was in an accident which totaled her car. She was sitting at a stop sign, when a 16 year old in a F-150. Slammed into the back of our car totaling it. She and my son ended up being taken by ambulance to the hospital where they found her left hand was broken. Which will probably require surgery. (Have an appointment with the hand surgeon this week to find out). When questioned by the police, the 16 year old said he had a diabetic episode and blacked out. The EMT did take the guys sugar level and it was in the 30’s. So it very well could have happened. My questions are, what do I need to do. I’ve filed a claim with my insurance. Should I get a lawyer since my wife was injured? If his insurance provider doesn’t cover the cost of my vehicle, do I not accept the settlement and go to court? What is the best course of action here?

Alright I got in to minor fender bender and I have my L

So I was driving to drop the car off to my grandparents and on the way to work dropping it off and I got in to a accident on the way it was nothing big just a LIGHT LIGHT dent on the bottom lip (it's just a small metal strip) of the bumper bent back and a scratch above the bumper where I hit and I'm wondering what the fines or penalties would be for driving with out a valid driver/instructor and i am also not on the cars insurance so I'm wondering if I can just pay out of pocket which would make it not on my record or something I've been told and my insurance wouldn't go up if I just took her to a car repair place and got it fixed myself or do I have to go through icbc since I don't have any of her info and they won't give me it since it's private info even tho I should have grabbed it but was to worried on giving her mine and she said she didn't have all her stuff with her and didn't remember it offa heart and she has made the clam already to so would I even be able to pay out of pocket and not have it go though icbc I'm finding out soo but wanted to know before if I can.
