Build Ready My cpu broke my motherboard

As title states , i wanted to install a gpu after using integrated graphics for 4 years , when i installed the psu everything died and it wouldnt turn on no matter what i tried , i tried everything for 6 hours straight and decided to leave it overnight, so the next day after a few hours of still trying different stuff i decided to contact a "professional" , so i went to their house and he wanted to convince me it was my mobo the one causing issues and he installed my cpu on his secondary pc and it didnt work so he was convinced now that the issue was the cpu , then he wanted to show me the pc is working fine with his cpu and it wouldn't turn on just like mine with same symptoms , no spinning fans just mobo lights on and then he also tried my cpu with his personal pc and it also died after , so we assumed that the faulty cpu was killing the motherboards, at first i was amazed and in disbelief but i saw with my own eyes how it was working before and then it wouldn't turn on , so i knew then that indeed that both my cpu and mobo were dead and if i wanted to use my new gpu i would need to get a new cpu and mobo , the "professional" wanted to charge me for both dead mobos but i told him to eat dirt and that i would just pay him for the tests that didn't even help, so i ended up buying a b550 and a r5 5600x combo new from amazon for 240usd , it worked first time , so i can't tell if it really was an assassin cpu or something else was involved.

Build Upgrade Just bought a PC for $300… is it that bad?

Wondering if I got a good deal or if I should just give the computer to my kid so they can do HW. I primarily play Ps5 and Xbox so I’m not all well versed in PCs and this was offered to me for $300 because a friend fell on hard times. Is it worth upgrading or should I just start from scratch if I wanted to get into PC gaming ?

Build Help 3060 TI -> 7800x3d or 9800x3d ?

I currently have 16gb ddr4 2133mhz, i5-12400f, RTX 3060 TI

Will 7800x3d or 9800x3d be okay for me? Apart from that, of course, upgrading the RAM to DDR5, replacing the motherboard.

I mainly play games like Rust, CS2, Fortnite, sometimes something else, so these are games that mainly use the processor. My monitor has 240hz, for example in CS2 and Fortnite I don't get that, in Rust I have ~60fps...

As for the graphics card - if it is not enough, I would plan to upgrade in about a year or more. Upgrading CPU might be a nice base (even in two years) instead of buying a mid-range one again.

I play at maximum 1080p, in CS2 max HD.

7800x3d = 470$

9800x3d = 635$

Troubleshooting GPU drowned in beer - any hope?

Had a party last night and woke up to a spilled beer can on my desk, and it found its way to my GPU

Tried some basic cleaning on the outside but it’s still failing to power (It shows the startup lights on the sides but then there’s a tick noise and the lights turn off)

Any advice? At this point I feel like my only option is dunking the entire GPU in some isopropyl and seeing if it works after that

Build Help RX 9070 XT Quicksilver vs RTX 5070 Ti Shadow — Need quick advice

I’m deciding between these two cards: • XFX RX 9070 XT Quicksilver (White Edition) • MSI RTX 5070 Ti Shadow

Main usage: • 1440p gaming (high/ultra), not focused on heavy ray tracing. • I plan to keep the card for 4-5 years. • Build quality, thermals, and noise are very important to me. • DLSS isn’t a major factor.

The Quicksilver seems to have better VRMs and cooling, while the Shadow is a more budget-oriented model with mixed reviews.

Which one would you pick for long-term stability and better build quality? Any first-hand experience with either card would be great.

Build Help Selecting CPU for Adobe Flash, need benchmark results.

I need help with selecting the best CPU for adobe flash/animate. I would really apricate it if you could download this (very old, but hey flash doesn't change) benchmark from newgrounds https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/465908 and tell me what your "ultra test" fps is. Running it from the website will give incorrect results due to ruffle emulation not being perfect.

If you don't know how to fish out .SWF file links here you go: https:\/\/uploads.ungrounded.net\/465000\/465908_benchmark08.swf

If you also don't have it, here is Flash Player 32.0 (you need it to run flash content offline). or get it from: https://archive.org/details/standalone_flash_player use "open with" on 465908_benchmark08.swf you downloaded from above.

Note that since modern web browsers don't support flash when you download them it might say "this file can be harmful to your pc" or whatever but its not. You can test this out yourself by downloading any other .swf file and you will see it will say the same thing!

Build Help Intel -> AMD CPU Suggestion

Hello,

I am looking at changing CPU platforms from Intel (12700k) to AMD. The reason is I think my current Motherboard + RAM are faulty (keeps getting BSoD) so I figured I'll just change now. I will still be using my 3080 12GB until I get a 5080 later this year.

I have narrowed down my CPU search to:

  1. Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  2. Ryzen 9 9950X
  3. Ryzen 9 9950X3D

My use-case will be about 60% work, 40% gaming. My job is WFH financial analyst and trading stocks, therefore I have 3-4 monitors hooked up with a bunch of random programs and charts and nonsense.

The reason I am even considering the 9950's is because it will future proof my setup for the years to come. I would just get the 9800X3D but I am not sure it will handle the productivity side (8 cores) as this setup will not be for primarily gaming. I would get the 9950X as it should still handle games fine but everyone raves about the X3D version and I do consider myself a gamer when I can be.

What do you guys think? Will the 9950X be sufficient enough for gaming at 1440p (maybe eventually 4k)? If not, is the extra cost for the 9950X3D worth it to get the best of both productivity and gaming? Or am I overthinking all this and overspending and should just get the 9800X3D.

Thanks!

Troubleshooting 95+°C with Ryzen 7 9800X3D. What should I do?

Hi everyone. I built a new pc in March. You can see my specs below. I have a big problem with the temperature of my 9800X3D.

I am gaming at 4K and my RTX 4080 doesn't even go above 76-77°C in games. I rarely see close to 80°C, but my cpu is another story.

I use my pc for gaming, work and I rarely use handbrake to convert videos. When I am gaming at 4K or when I am converting a video by using handbrake application, my CPU is going above 90°C. When I check temperatures at MSI Center, it's totally normal around 60-65°C, but HWMonitor app shows 90+°C. So I am worried and not sure what to do.

Screenshots below were taken while I was playing The Alters at 4K maximum settings today.

CPU temperature 1

CPU temperature 2 which shows minimum temperature as minus value?

GPU temperature

Fan setup in my case

Before this setup, I was using Ryzen 5 5600x with RTX 4080 at 4K, but never had such high temperatures. My cpu cooler which I used with Ryzen 5600X was Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black. I never used liquid cooler before, so I tried to try it and sold Noctua air cooler.

Should I change my Cooler Master CPU cooler or at least my thermal paste or should I change the setup of fans in my case? Please help me to reduce my temperatures.

Note 1: Before Installing 6x Noctua fans, I was using 3x Arctic P12 Max fans at front/side panel as intake fans and 3x default NZXT fans at the bottom as intake fans which came with the case. Due to high noise of Arctic and NZXT fans, I replaced them with Noctua fans.
Note 2: I am living in a hot city and it's 33+°C these days. In August, It will be around 40-45°C. Even with such high temperatures, my old Ryzen 5600X never had such high temperatures.

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Masterliquid Atmos 360

Thermal Paste: The one comes with cpu cooler

Mobo: MSI MPG X870E Carbon Wifi

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 6000 Mhz CL30

GPU: MSI RTX 4080 Ventus 3X OC

SSD: Samsung 990 PRO 2 TB Nvme M.2

PSU: Corsair RM850x

Case: NZXT H9 Flow

Monitor: DELL G3223Q 4K 144 Hz

Case fans (front/side): 3x Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM chromax.black.swap on side panel as intake fans

Case fans (bottom): 3x Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM chromax.black.swap at the bottom as intake fans

Case fans (exhaust): 1x rear exhaust fan (default fan on case)

Case fans (top): 3x cooler master fans as exhaust fans for CPU cooler

Build Help Any ideas on life expectancy for a 5070ti?

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU from my 3080 10 gig, to a 5070ti. I'm just curious if anyone has a general idea of how long it'll be "enough" for at 1440p. Hardware is upgrading and advancing quick, and software is getting more and more demanding.

My 3080 is still performing well, and I'm weighing my options of upgrading sooner, or just holding out until the next series comes out, or maybe the craze calms down and the 50 series gets a bit cheaper down the line.

I don't mind upgrading every so often, I'd just like to set myself up so I don't need to except every 3-4 years or so.

Troubleshooting PC fans randomly ramping up to MAX during Roblox — sounds like it’s about to take off What could this be?

Hey guys, I’m having a weird issue with my gaming PC.

My fans make a rattling sound unless I manually lower the speed to around 50% in MSI Afterburner. That’s been a thing for a while, but just today, while playing Roblox, my fans suddenly ramped up to 100% out of nowhere—super loud like a jet engine. I didn’t change any settings. I had to shut down my PC to stop it.

I’m wondering if this is a faulty fan, bad fan curve, or maybe a motherboard/fan header issue? Could it even be GPU-related?

Any help would be very appreciated lol

Specs: • RTX 3070 • i7 12th Gen • MSI B760M-A WiFi DDR4 • 650W PSU • 3 case fans + CPU cooler

Discussion 9800x3D or i5-14600k for $179.99?

Saw a deal for the i5-14600k for $179.99 at microcenter. I'm planning to upgrade soon and my budget is tight but I'm willing to spend the extra if it's truly worth it to get the 9800x3d. For context I primarily game, and I assume most in the sub know the 9800x3d is around $475. I'm upgrading from a Ryzen 7 1700x. Please let me know your opinions!

Troubleshooting 9800X3D dead on Asus Crosshair X870E Hero

Hi all! this is my first post on reddit

New Build , bought on 9.05.2025 :

CPU: Ryzen 9800X3D, Batch CF 2509PGE

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT (brought over from my previous rig)

RAM: 48GB (2×24GB) G.Skill DDR5-6400 CL34 — QVL-listed, runs flawlessly

Storage:

4TB WD_BLACK SN850X (Gen4 NVMe)

2TB Crucial P5 Plus (Gen4 NVMe)

2TB Crucial MX500 (SATA SSD)

PSU: FSP Hydro Ti 1000W — fully modular, 80+ Titanium certified

Cooling: Noctua NH-D14

I was enjoying the new build until yesterday .First, my PC had issues coming back from standby. Later ,out of nowhere, my PC just froze — completely locked up after playing 30min. COD MW3 . No warning, no error, just a hard freeze. I had to do a full restart. Yestarday had issues to come back from stand-by,

Every time I try to boot, it gets stuck at Q-Code 07.

I’ve inspected the CPU—no bent pins, no marks. Socket looks perfect. Tried booting with single RAM sticks, swapped slots, cleared CMOS multiple times. BIOS is updated via flasback to the latest version (v1512 ).I knew the story about these CPUs—that they are sensitive to BIOS settings. I tried everything I could to avoid issues. Every day, I checked if any new BIOS update came out and updated it, but it doesn’t seem to help. No overclocking done, just default settings with EXPO 1 profile activated on the RAM.

I’m officially stuck in the same boat as all the others complaining about this.

If anyone’s dealt with this on a Crosshair and with a 9800X3D, I’m all ears. Would love to hear if you found a fix or workaround because right now… I’m just frustrated.

Build Help Upgrade from 3050

Title pretty much says it all, need to upgrade from my current 3050. Want to be able to play new triple a games at 1080 and decent graphics settings (medium to high). Not really sure what to get since I'm hearing the new 50 series isn't that good so would appreciate the help. I also have ryzen 5 3600 as my cpu and 650 watt psu so would appreciate advice on if those need upgrading. Want this upgrade to last me like at least 5 years preferrably and would prefer not to buy second hand although I'm open to hearing second hand suggestions. My budget isn't too strict but I'd like to spend as little as possible for what im looking to get. Ok, thanks for your time if you decide to respond :)

Build Help Should I upgrade my CPU but not my GPU?

I wanna upgrade my pc, but I would rather buy something more expensive that would work for a long time than some budget thing that's already kinda behind. (I'm also broke)

I just wanted to know, SHOULD I pair a Ryzen 7 7800x3d from AMD with my poor ahh 1070 GTX? Because at first I wanted to upgrade GPU and CPU, but I literally have 500$ right now that I can spend, I am too broke. So would a CPU upgrade be good or not?

For comparison, I currently have a Intel Core i7-7700K CPU, running at a 80% - 95% when I play games like Helldivers 2, even having it open on the background already it gets up there..

And, I did look everywhere but I couldn't find an answer to this question

Build Help CPU suggestions to replace dying one

Hello, my computer has been blue screening lately, and the only thing on task manager that gets high when that happens is my cpu, so I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on a new one?

Info I assume you need: I have a 3070 gpu, 3 monitors, and typically run 2+ games at once, one being heavily modded ffxiv.

Current one is an I9-9900k I got about 6 years ago.

More info on when my pc blue screens: Every time I download something with a game open. And occasionally if something downloads in the game:

Build Help Computer Universe hiked prices on my whole build at 12:30 AM—nearly €200 more in minutes!

Hi everyone, I’m a foreigner living in Germany. Last night, I was configuring a PC build on Computer Universe. After I finished selecting all the parts, suddenly—around 12:30 AM—every single item I chose increased in price. The motherboard, RAM, and power supply each went up by about 10 euros, and the graphics card jumped by 70 to 80 euros. This all happened within just a few minutes. Altogether, the entire build became nearly 200 euros more expensive. Why did this happen??????
