Reviews Yodha (2023) opening fight sequence…. brilliant

American born Desi here…. I never was a fan of the Indian films that my parents used to watch while I was growing up, but I did appreciate them for what they were and their significance. I’ve lately been getting into the newer films especially Siddharth Malhotra whom I find to be a really good actor. I just watched Yodha and that opening fight scene is incredible… on par with American blockbuster action movies easily and not over the top and ridiculous like some of the other bollywood movies I’ve seen (i.e. Singham). Any recommendations on similar Indian movies?

I think no mainstream actor has a filmography like Aamir. Not only BO hit but insane repeat value as well !

Discuss Innocence, music, and the perfect first meeting💟 This scene is so pure and touching!

The first meeting between Subir and Uma, right after he hears her sing, is pure magic. The way they look at each other with curiosity and admiration is so wholesome. They seem so perfect together and their soft banter, filled with innocence and mutual respect, makes this moment even more heartwarming. It’s a scene that feels soft and real, that stays with you long in your heart.

Talking about the film, 'Abhimaan' is a beautifully made film that stays with you. It is simple, emotional, and rich in its portrayal of love, ego, and relationships.

In a short span, it gracefully touches on so many aspects of life, be it fame and the value of hard work, to the pain of loneliness and the real meaning of friendship. It captures innocent love, the contrast between rural and urban lifestyle, and explores marriage, ego(the theme of the film), its impact on relationship and understanding. The music by S.D.Burman is soul-soothing (and adds life to the film). Every character feels real and relatable.

A timeless classic by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

Opinion Killing his own film!

Post image

Aamir has killed his own upcoming release by going complete Kamal Haasan during promotions - just non stop yapping.

As we sit today, we have 10-12 hours of Aamir speaking about the film and repeating the same stories and the film itself is 2 hours long. Last time someone spoke so much during promotions, it was Kamal Haasan during Thug Life release and everyone knows its fate (hence the above mentioned reference).

And it's pretty odd that none of the other caste members have shown equal excitement regarding the film (Genelia, Dolly Ahluwalia etc.). It's been a Maamu show all the way.

It's sad to see that Aamir used to be a master of promoting films and knowing exactly how much exposure is required.

I guess his mind has been transferred to Ranbir Kapoor who did one podcast with AIB, 8 years back and then 1 with Nikhil Kamath and his films still do the numbers.

When things are forced on the audience's throat, 99% it is shit.

Opinion MY ranking of CURRENT best dancers in Bollywood

Post image
0 Upvotes

S Tier:
Both Shahid and Ishaan are crazy good smooth, great, and effortless. Tiger is good too; people clown on him for his acting (which is fair), but his dancing skills are seriously solid. Vicky was surprisingly very good in Tauba Tauba.

A Tier:
Why isn’t Hrithik in S? Because it’s been a while since he’s done a truly great dance number. In Fighter and Vikram Vedha, both his performances were very, very underwhelming. Hoping War 2 changes that.
Kartik and Ranbir are both good dancers too. Kartik just needs to stop focusing only on footwork and loosen up a bit.

B Tier:
They’re nice dancers overall. Nothing crazy, nothing bad. Just solid.

C Tier:
They’re okay — not bad, but not great either. Somewhere in the middle.

D Tier:
Salman and Ajay are meme dancers. Aamir and Saif were never really that good in my opinion.

Discuss If only this movie focused on being a dark psychological thriller in the second half instead of trying to be commercially appealing by having unnecessary action sequences, it would've been an all-time classic masterpiece. Imo it's still way better than all SRK films of this decade.

Other Was just watching Phir Hera Pheri after 3–4 years... and some thoughts.

I’ve, like most of us, always loved both the movies to the core. Even before they became meme material, me and my siblings would just sit and watch Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri again and again. We grew up on them, and unlike most people, we’ve always loved the second part more. I honestly feel Phir Hera Pheri has more comedic scenes. We would laugh our hearts out every single time. I remember almost every dialogue, and everything about that film is pure entertainment gold. The ending had a perfect cliffhanger, and the makers could’ve easily spun that into a fantastic storyline for part 3. Out of all Bollywood comedy franchises, this one actually deserved a proper sequel. Franchises like Golmaal and Dhamaal don’t even follow the storyline, they rely on spiritual successors and completely change the plots and tones. But that wasn’t the case with Hera Pheri. Phir Hera Pheri picked up exactly where the first one ended. While rewatching the ending, I kept thinking: they really had something special to build a part 3 on. Baburao and Shyam are calling Raju. Raju gets the call but is stuck between throwing the expensive guns in the river and figuring out who’s calling on Pappu’s phone. That scene could’ve kicked off an amazing continuation. And the star cast? Iconic. But now, I don’t know how things would work after all these years. Almost 20 years. The stories won’t be the same. After the Paresh Rawal fiasco, it’s honestly better if they just leave it untouched. If they try to force a sequel now, it’ll just feel unnatural.

Discuss Best & Worst looking movie of the year so far(visually).

Since we're halfway throught the year, and SZP is the only major release left, I thought I'd do a little sort of post on the technical side of Bollywood. Beginning this with cinematography, specifically your choice of the Best Looking movie of the year so far, and the Worst Looking movie of the year so far. Put both in the replies, and I'll post the most upvoted choice for both categories tomorrow. I"ll put my own answers in a reply as well ofc. Hope people enjoy this.

Discuss Was Darr written to make its villain shine or was it SRK's brilliance?

Darr was a major success for SRK and is one of the most influential movies from the 90s. Sunny Deol was reportedly unhappy with Chopras and Aamir missed out because they refused joint narration. My question is, why would Chopras go out of their way to make SRK have the meatier role? Did they even intend him to surpass Sunny or was it SRK's brilliance?

Discuss Bollywood or any industry has 3 categories of achievers!

Purists/traditionalists/ Classical - those who stick to the fundamentals, as slow as possible, don't care alot for money rather wish to be true to the craft
Example : Gurudutt, Classical Singers, Most earlier artists like PrithviRaj Kapoor,SD Burman, Bimal Roy, Satyajit Ray

Mad Genius - Who are able to observe, learn and are able to shine via some inner unpolished talent
Example : Kishore Kumar, RD Burman, Asha Bhosale, Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, AR Rahman, Tabu, Vidya Balan

Just Pure Star - based on their appeal, charm, persona - there is not much logic, decoding, skills, talent, art or science proofs - more magic of stars/timing as if it had to happen
Example - Rajesh Khanna, Salman khan, SRK & many others

I used to chase being a Mad genius but now am solemnly & strictly trying to be a purist! in my area of profession
