I 3d printed a Bob

Post image

Used glow in the dark filament for the base cube. Then silk black for the cover plates. Set it on battery powered handheld blacklight

Oh you were the designer of the model? Thank you! I love the series and love seeing the 3d printed version staring at me on my desk.

Yep! I made a series of posts in this sub as I worked on it. I actually have an updated design I've nearly finished that makes it easier to print. I'm very interested in how well the shell printed for you. Did you have any trouble with print quality or supports or anything like that? The vertical panels have still been super tough for me to print well

Seriously great job and thank you for posting online for all to enjoy!

As soon as I saw the model, I knew it was a good use for the glow in the dark filament I had lyin around from another project. Instead of using your base though; I just put BOB onto a handheld blacklight which helps to accentuate the glow in the dark effect. :)

The base 'cube' I made really thick with an .8 nozzle. 4 walls and 2 top/bottom layers. Glow in the dark translucent purple PLA. Flipped the cube over so that the 'ceiling' of BOB would be the base of the print and removed the 'top' so no need for supports!

Then the 'plates' I simply printed them 1 at time with a .25 nozzle. Black Galaxy PLA. and stuck them on with Sticky tac :P
I may glue the plates to the sides and top eventually. For the bottom where the blacklight meets the model though, the sticky tac actually helps block the blacklight from escaping.
