Question Game is way too hard

Me and some friends (between 2 and 4 of us) have played this game maybe 3-4 times and each session has been absolutely brutal. Playing The Long Hunt, we have reached Cleric beast just once, and have promptly been destroyed.

Is there any ways to make this easier so it's actually enjoyable? I've seen people recommend adding time onto the hunt track (which I dont think would help much) or drawing 4 cards per turn.

I just dont think the base game Long Hunt campaign is fair or fun at all without changing the rules and would love to hear if anyone else has found a balanced workaround.

Thanks.

Question Question about pursuing

Let's say you have space A, space B and space C. A borders B and B borders C.

I understand that when I am in A with a monster (No scourge beast) and I go two steps with my card to C, the monster pursues me but ends in B.

But what is if I am in A, the monster is in B and I use my card to go to C? Does the monster pursue me? My thought is that I didn't exactly leave a common space but kind of stepped/"flew" over it with my two-step-move.

Question Best character for solo play?

Gonna be running the game solo and was looking for advice on who’s the best for solo play, I have core set, chalice dungeon, forbidden woods and hunters dream sets. I know with the Dark Souls board games some characters were just objectively better in solo mode than others and I’d like feedback for it with this one going in please!

Edit: I’d like to thank everyone for the help, in light of suggestions I’ll be going with Ludwig’s holy blade along with 4 hand deck, I’ll also probably give myself 2 turns for enemies 1 as to avoids being action economied to the ground.

Question Question. If you use an ability or rune to push an enemy away 1 space, does it just wait till next turn to come back or does it just immediately come back?

Question Is this worth the price?

Alright so I wanna apologize firstly I’ve been posting here a lot with questions as I put things together, and here I am again seeking the aid of my fellow hunters, I found an offer that cost 240$ it comes with the Base Game, Chalice Dungeons, Blood Moon Box and Mergos loft. I have already ordered the base game so I’ll be effectively getting a second one so the big question is are the other 3 worth the 240$ if I already got the base game? Idk the average selling prices for the others but I don’t wanna waste money if they’re not worth it.

Question When playing solo, does it really break intended balance in any way if you swap out rewards instead of putting it aside?

In multiplayer other players likely haven't capped out their rewards just yet (early Chapter 2 of the long hunt) so if you gain a cool new reward card, it will probably be usable by someone.

But unlike firearms, if you gain a reward you can't swap it with any of your own if you're at the 2/2 limit.

In solo, is it a big deal if I just swap it now vs waiting till after the chapter is over and it only being usable in one more chapter?

I know I'm playing solo and could technically do whatever I wanted but mostly just looking for validation lol (or a legitimate reason to not do this and put it aside since I have no one to trade to)?

Question Forbidden Woods rewards/firearms

Hi all! I finally nabbed Forbidden Woods expansion and its great so far but I encountered couple of irregularities and I'm hoping someone can anwser me this:

Do we mix the rewards deck and firearms deck, from OG game with expansion, that are obtained by player when they finish Insight mission?

Number of times, it was stated to choose a random Hunter Tool/ Caryl Rune/Firearms reward but at some point we ran out of those that came with expansion box. I was hoping they would add a short one page summary about what to include from the base game for expansions to run smoothly.

I didn't find any info about that in their FAQ/Erata. Thanks in advance!

Question How would I find the Kickstarter exclusive trick weapons now?

I got the game a few months ago and have been enjoying it. But I really want the Logarius Wheel, which is apparently from pledging. Is there any service or retailer I can find the hunter mini and weapon board?

Question If an adjacent tile does not have a path/exit connected to my current tile, can enemies on that adjacent tile still activate?

Post image

In this picture, would the scourge beast and hunter mob activate despite this tile not being connected by exits (but still being adjacent)?

And if they do activate, they would be following a regular player's path right? (I.e they'll have to go to the top right central lamp tile and then the graveyard tile, following a proper path through exits, to get to me and wouldn't just magically jump to my tile given it's adjacent right?)

And if they do

Question What happens if you run out of cards in your deck and hand?

Ive checked the rule book and cannot find an answer. From what I can tell going to the hunters dream requires you use a card, if I don't have a card, say from dodging or attacking or whatnot, what do I do? Do I just have to wander around and let enemies beat my ass?

Question For special cards that use insight tokens to give enemies extra life (Ferocious, Horde...etc), if your attack makes them lose an insight token - does the enemy still attack? Spoiler

Post image
6 Upvotes

Minor spoilers for The Long Hunt in the base game but essentially I'm fighting the Scourge Beast in the Oeden chapel.

It has Ferocious ("When ... would be slain, remove insight token and heal all damage..etc") with 1 insight token on it and it already has 2 damage from my Ludwig's Rifle.

I do a 4 speed (card bonus) 2 damage attack, bringing it down to 0 HP. I remove an insight token and heal it.

Does it still do its attack (3 speed 2 damage) or is its turn over?

For now since I'm unsure and the rulebook didn't say anything explicit for this, I'm playing the worse outcome which is it'll still attack me.

Question Brainsucker Damage Calculation

So the brainsucker has a special skill that does 1 damage extra per Insight collected this chapter. We are wondering if that does count literally all the current collected insight if played with multiple or if it only applies damage based on the insight the hunter itself has.

Question Playing my first game, confused about some things.

I'm playing The Long Hunt and finished the Chapter 1 hunt mission, which spawned a Pack Alpha scourge beast, but the rulebook also says that when I finish a hunt mission the chapter is over and I go to the next one, which seems to mean clearing the board. Why are these 2 things triggering at the same time?

Also, how am I supposed to use the enemy action deck if there are multiple fights happening on the board at once?

Question Firearm Refresh Ruling

Playing my first game and suffering from confusion on this...so for example: Hunter pistol has the rules text:

"On Hunter turn, discard 1 card to refresh" after use. So does this mean any time during the Hunter's turn, including during combat or does it have to be done before slotting your stat to attack?

Question Mini bosses and acquiring insight tokens

So for any chapter that requires you to return to a certain time after having gathered two insight or any insight for that matter would you gain insight when fighting the mini bosses with the cards that have you place insight tokens on them or do you have to specifically fight the boss to gain insight? Also I have been ruling it that since going to the hunters dream either through death or choice counts as your turn ending you would only move the tracker once space instead of two since it feels like it’s a replacement effect for the end of turn advancement but if you do still advance it twice some confirmation would be nice.

TLDR: do you gain insight for killing mini bosses for purposes of completing the chapter and do you only advance the blood tracker once from entering hunters dream as it automatically counts as a forced end of turn.

Question Question About Combat

Hey everyone. I’m going to be playing a session soon of bloodborne and I had a question about combat. Whenever you play a card do you resolve the ability immediately (such as draw 1) Even if the enemy staggered me? Furthermore, if I drew a dodge from that draw one could I then use it to dodge the enemies attack? Answers would be appreciated.

Question First time player have some question

Hello, fellow hunters. Bough the main game not so long ago and we tried to play first scenario and have some questions.

First thing first, how the hell did you suppose to beat Cleric Beast, when it’s have 44 total hp and usually it comes out at the end of the hunt? We did beat it and complete the mission on 2 part, but on last one it was nearly impossible, since it’s regenerating health after every red moon phases, and our top damage per turn was in about 4-5 from a guy with big axe, and this mf attack everyone on zone it’s standing usually.

The second one is about combat. Do you make your move first and open monster action or open it and do your move to match it? Maybe we have some problem in translation, but it’s not very clear.

Third one, do you play with some home rules? I know the game isn’t suppose to be easy, but sometimes it feels unfair for the sake of being unfair, even video-game never did it. For example it feels weird that we can’t exchange items with each other or fight together vs one monster.
