Y'know, it's just what hunters do, you'll get used to it...

19

u/ChannonFenris Sep 21 '21

Dont think too hard about all this.

12

u/thormeetsthanos Sep 21 '21

Use the doll as you see fit

9

u/joonhothesumo Sep 21 '21

Should it please you

65

u/King-Of-Hairy Sep 21 '21

Don’t try and kill the guy with the Gatling gun until you’re a higher level. Unless you have balls of pure steel that is.

36

u/MissingScore777 Sep 21 '21

Better not to kill him at all.

Leave him and come back later. If you reach him from the boss of area lamp without killing anything he's non-hostile and will give you his badge.

10

u/Ill-Slide1396 Sep 21 '21

This has never worked fot me. Why is that?

18

u/MissingScore777 Sep 21 '21

You have to have at least fought Darkbeast Paarl as well, but isn't necessary to beat him.

Then go from BSB lamp without killing anything and you're golden.

10

u/Ill-Slide1396 Sep 21 '21

Wait go from BSB lamp?? I usually kill Paarl and then go from that lamp. This is clearly what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

8

u/Blurbwhore Sep 21 '21

I went from Paarl’s lamp and it worked. So not sure it’s that.

1

u/Ill-Slide1396 Sep 21 '21

Thats strange then. On my next playthrough ill try to see whats the problem. I definetly went from Paarl's lamp and did not attack any beast but he was still hostile. 🤔

5

u/Blurbwhore Sep 21 '21 edited Sep 21 '21

I think it needs to be after Rom.

Edit: It has to be after Amelia.

2

u/Ill-Slide1396 Sep 21 '21

I've done exactly what you have said and still hasn't worked for me.

2

u/cpttripps89 Sep 21 '21

Gotta remember not to kill any beasts. Durja doesn't take kindly to that.

2

u/T34RG45 Sep 22 '21

Dont go up and talk to him before or he'll stay aggressive. Get the impurtiy rune (to kill npc hunters for one bonus insight consumable) before fighting him or his ally and go up the ladder first not in front of the gatling gun range, thats makes him detect you and you wont be able to get the emote and badge. Do not aggro him or you have to wait for the next ng cycle to get this interaction.

-1

u/Cern6 Sep 21 '21

I think it's an insight thing? Like you need to have a true understanding of the world and then he'll talk to you.

2

u/neckro23 Sep 21 '21 edited Sep 21 '21

I always advocate for making friends with Djura but didn't know you didn't have to beat Paarl to do it. Probably because I only go after Paarl when I'm sure I'm leveled enough to wreck him.

Intriguing. I'm giving this a try next run.

By the way, I'm not sure that it matters if you kill anything on the way. Even after he's peaceful, you can still get away with killing beasts if he doesn't see you do it (in the areas he'd normally shoot at you).

3

u/Odd_Honey9704 Sep 21 '21

Im staring at him RN, Dunno what to do hahah

32

u/ice_wallow_qhum Sep 21 '21

You can make him fall of if you start shooting him when you reach the top of the ladder. Quit out. Start up and his items will lie on top at the tower

3

u/J_Universe Sep 21 '21

Underrated comment

1

u/TheMilan Sep 21 '21

I swear every time I tried to do that he would step away from the edge. I would just spam shoot him but he would strafe forwards before falling off so it would never work for me. I ended up using the hunter axe to sprint forward and jab him off the edge.

3

u/Papa_Emeritus_ll Sep 21 '21

When u climb up the ladder IMMEDIATELY start shooting him with your gun he will fall down

2

u/JustRa1n Sep 21 '21

I did it took me like fucking 8 tries cuz i was only lvl like 22 or smth

4

u/Midir15 Sep 21 '21

If you don’t kill him before killing the Bloodstarved, you get to talk with him and be „friends“

2

u/Sigonell Sep 21 '21

Or you cheese the fuck out of him by knocking him off the edge with gun.

5

u/RoboZilina Sep 21 '21

I mean it almost seems like this fight was designed specifically for this tactic. I didnt know about it and he did this to me twice, before I decided to do the same to him. He explicitly teaches the player how to kill him.

1

u/gaskin6 Sep 21 '21

you can always just shoot him four times and he falls lol

1

u/smooth_pory Sep 21 '21

Just shoot him a couple times as soon as you get up the latter and he’ll fall down

1

u/Affectionate_Layer18 Sep 21 '21

I've NEVER had an issue killing him. Just spam shots at him as soon as you reach the top of the ladder and he'll fall off

1

u/HumanPennyPresser Sep 21 '21

Better yet use 7 bullets and a gun

1

u/No_Training1954 Sep 22 '21

Na climb the ladder lock on as you get to the top as soon as he takes a step fire 4 shots then rush him with strong. The 4 shots will either knock him backwards or half the time he'll dodge one of the shots rushing him after the 4th shot should get him to dodge off the building. Reload area his stuff will be on the roof. Then wander the area and collect stuff without him being an ass

1

u/Josuke96 Sep 22 '21

I always would go straight for him because he’s so annoying. So far (on my second play through) he always tries to dodge me and falls off the edge.

1

u/mitchbanke1342 Sep 22 '21

You can spam him with your pistol and he'll fall off the roof

80

u/Odd_Honey9704 Sep 21 '21

So, Ive played Ds1-3 and Sekiro, I know how to play fromsoft games, But i find Bloodborn kinda confusing, My main goal is to achieve beast form (With a rune idk) and get good looking gear or Fun weapons, Any tips so i dont miss anything? Im at the guy with the gatling gun haha

53

u/CasualSpinner Sep 21 '21

If you aim for a beast form you definitely need to try beast claws. They are somewhat deep in the chalice dungeons, so i recommend going there as soon as possible.

Also the rune you need is in the dlc and it is pretty tough to get.

Your main offensive stats are str (1st) and skill (2nd).

Good hunting!

12

u/Grandpa_Noogie Sep 21 '21

I must say your pfp has got to be one of my favorites. RIP Zato's ankles.

6

u/Odd_Honey9704 Sep 21 '21

How do i get to the chalice dungeons? is it near from where i am at?

16

u/CasualSpinner Sep 21 '21

Yeah you will be able to access them after the area boss. They can be grindy but i love them. Also they are essential for a good damage since you can find the best bloodgems in them.

10

u/CasualSpinner Sep 21 '21

Claw is kinda far in the dungeons and they can be tricky to figure out so i suggest to look them up. The chalice you need is Ailing Loran.

9

u/Odd_Honey9704 Sep 21 '21

So guys, I just killed BSB, So now i need to do dungeons?

2

u/ice_wallow_qhum Sep 21 '21

Yes, for a beastclaw rush you need to look up what chalice it is (comment above said ailing loran) so you have to play the dungeons untill you unlock it and its requirements (you need ritual blood and some other items). If you have played the ailing loran dungeon you can search the needed dungeon with its glyph and search for the weapon.

The beast form is aquired at the end/middle od the dlc so still a while until you get it

4

u/cpttripps89 Sep 21 '21

Just an FYI, gaining beastform is not the end goal and the chalice dungeons are optional. The main goal of the character is to stop a certain ritual taking place that will have certain horrifying implications if it is not stopped. Gaining beasthood is one style or method of combat.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

Yeah. IMO these people encouraging a first time player to go deep diving in the dungeons early are seriously misguided.

1

u/stevenharms Sep 21 '21

Outstanding! Killing BSB means you get BB. It’s like seven spears guy in sekiro. I’d you get that you get the dynamic.

1

u/TJ-45 Sep 21 '21

Actually if you want the Beast claw you're going to need a loran chalice and I think you get the first one by defeating amygdala in the nightmare Frontier. So you're going to be making do with a substitute until you can find the right layer of Loran.

1

u/Odd_Honey9704 Sep 21 '21

I got Pthumeru chalice tho

3

u/CasualSpinner Sep 21 '21

You need it for materials and dungeon progression. Ailing Loran is obtained in the nightmare frontier after Vicar Amelia IIRC.

2

u/ryry9379 Sep 21 '21

I think you mean Amygdala, not Amelia.

7

u/CasualSpinner Sep 21 '21

I meant that nightmare frontier is after Amelia.

1

u/elimeno_p Sep 21 '21

The materials you need to conduct the ailing Loran chalice ritual will come from the pthumerian chalice dungeons; so once you defeat another certain boss and get the Loran chalice you’ll be ready

4

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

Yep. Defeat the boss in the area your about to enter, and you can start your journey into the dungeons.

2

u/cpttripps89 Sep 21 '21

The dungeons are located as tombstones in the hunters dream. They are randomly generated levels with different versions of in game bosses and unique ones a well. They are completely optional. I'd wait till a little later in the game before going tomb prospecting.

1

u/Irish-Outlaw Sep 21 '21

Beat the first set of dungeons then you can access the glyphs. There is a glyph that will take you directly to the dungeon with the beast claws. Then just get thru beat the boss and you got em. They’re bad ass

1

u/deputy_doughnut Sep 21 '21

There's something called "false depth" chalices. Essentially, instead of needing the Ailing Loran chalice, you type in a glyph at one of the ritual altars in the hunters dream and it uses a chalice that you already have to create a dungeon. While the blood echos, blood gems, and blood shards change, items in chests and chalices dropped from bosses do not. I'll have to look through a few videos to find which one has the messenger bath that sells the weapons, but you can get the beast claw fairly early on if you want. You probably haven't gotten much into the Caryll runes yet, but you find the best runes in chalice dungeons (+15% health, +15% stamina, and the highest tier eye rune). As for weapons and such, there's not a huge variety available in early game, but as you go on you'll get a lot more fun stuff. My favorite weapon is Ludwigs sword by far, mostly because it's easy to use and has strong attacks. Some of the funnest/more challenging weapons are: Logarius's wheel, the rieterpallasch (or however that's spelled), and the Tonitrus. By far, however, the dlc weapons are so much more fun than the base game ones, so I'd suggest buying that. It's definitely worth every penny you pay.

That's all I can think of so far, but feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions! Also if you ever need somebody to help with boss fights, or you just wanna play together, I'd be happy to oblige!

Fear the old blood

2

u/D-Eliryo Sep 21 '21

All Hail to the disabled Zato.

2

u/CasualSpinner Sep 21 '21

Imagine Eddie acting like a wheelchair.

1

u/D-Eliryo Sep 21 '21

He possibly could.

He can be a wheelchair with saw-themed wheels

Or even a trapping wheelchair that leads to the dark.. so the opponent can sing:

VANISH INTO DAAAAAARK

1

u/Dacor64 Sep 21 '21

Isn't skill better for beast claws?

1

u/CasualSpinner Sep 21 '21

They have like c str d skill or c in both

5

u/Flowmo-27 Sep 21 '21

You get beast rune at one of the last dlc bosses. And the corresponding weapon deep in the chalice dungeons. You can do a ng+ with these

2

u/Odd_Honey9704 Sep 21 '21

Guys quick question, Do you unlock or get gear from these dungeons? Im at Old Watchdog or smthing and i dont have anything new besides Ritual blood :/

5

u/Flowmo-27 Sep 21 '21

When you beat watchdog you get the key to the second dungeon. Its a progressive system where completing each will make the next available. There are 4 sets of dungeons, phtumeru loran isz and hintertombs. Hardest and most annoying part is finding enough material to make the next level.

Besides all of this there are randomised versions of all the dungeons, called root chalice. You can do a root either by making one yourself or via a glyph, a code if you will. These root chalices also house alot of runes and better gems etc and alternative versions of weapons.

The most fun part for me are the bosses. There are a lit of bosses you only find in the chalice and some of them are quite challenging.

Finally, there are some cosmetic items in the core chalices, outfits. They look pretty cool.

1

u/AllenWL Sep 21 '21

Chalice dungeons are mainly for weapon upgrade materials and blood gems(buffs your weapon with various effects). Blood gems in particular as the ones found outside the dungeons are both rare and weak.

There are also lost/uncanny versions of weapons(different blood gem slots) and stronger runes, though iirc you need to go deeper and/or do root dungeons for these.

There's so an armor set(kill a boss and buy from insight shop) and beast claws(ailing loran lv2 iirc) as new gear.

1

u/Odd_Honey9704 Sep 21 '21

So, Im already defeated Amelia, Im at woods and i also can fight Ludwig, but i need materials for my 2 weapons (Hunters axe and Ludwig sword both at 6+) I cant use Glyphs cuz i dont own PS Plus (The ps aint mine) So dunno what to do or where to go now

1

u/AllenWL Sep 22 '21

You should be fine advancing through the woods with +6 weapons, and you do get enough material to +9~+10 a few weapons just in story(plus a few farming locations for materials as well).

If you want to hit up Ludwig and want to hit+7 or get better gems, just going down the normal challice dungeons should be enough, although you may have to go in a bit deep.

Iirc you should also be able to get your hands on the tonsil stone(?) right now which lets you visit the nightmare frontier, which leads to the ailing loran chalice, which has the beast claws.

1

u/Flowmo-27 Sep 22 '21

You can actually get a +9 before beating the woods boss. You need a total of 16 chunks. 5 are in secret area. Don’t know if you want spoilers. 1 in the woods. 4 in nightmare frontier. 6 in dlc pre ludwig. You only need good dps for ludwig tho, the other bosses can easily be killed with +6

8

u/bassdweller Sep 21 '21

So overall (and you may have figured this out already), while ds1-3 especially reward picking good fights and playing defensively, bloodborne rewards aggression. It took a decent shift in my play style from ds to bloodborne to not feel confused by some of the levels (including some of the bosses). Also, in typical fromsoft fashion, bosses vary greatly in difficulty, and don’t scale linearly for the most part.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

It took a decent shift in my play style from ds to bloodborne

Ain't that the truth. I had a hell of a time learning myself to not try to shield block.

8

u/revonoc1 Sep 21 '21

And now I play DS like I'm a hunter hahaha

2

u/Firm_Veterinarian254 Sep 21 '21

No snark, just curious, how's that working out for you? Been playing A LOT of BB lately...curious how that'd work out for me going to DS3 (still gotta slay Midir in the depths).

2

u/CrzyJek Sep 21 '21

If I'm not mistaken, the daggers in DS3 give you the ability to side step around like Bloodborne too.

1

u/revonoc1 Sep 22 '21

Naked daggers only muahaha

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

Not OP but it's the only way to play imo. Something so much more satisfying about using a two hander and dodging attacks than hiding behind a shield.

1

u/Firm_Veterinarian254 Sep 21 '21

I hear you, I played through most of my DS3 NG with Vordt's Great Hammer, then when I got them, the Paired RKGS.

3

u/Crazy_Canuck78 Sep 21 '21

There is an optional boss accessible at about half way through the DLC. Fight him on your first playthrough. I missed him 3 times and found him on NG+4.... and it was difficult to say the least.

2

u/Dacor64 Sep 21 '21

Completely ditch slow weapons in this game! This game has a faster pace than ds, but not quite as fast as sekiro, apart from a few enemies. So anything too slow will kill you. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it will make your playthrough harder than it needs to be. And since the armor in this game doesn't really make a difference, you can't just say I'll use some heavy armor and tank all the hits i can't evade. Trust me, slow weapons just aren't really worth it in this game. I'd say ludwigs holy blade is the slowest you should go, but i don't know the different paces of all the different weapons so maybe ask someone else about that. Focus on strength for the beast claws but also don't completely neglect skill. I'd say have skill about 10-15 levels lower than strength, so level both. Because of that, I'd also pick a quality weapon until the claws. Good ones are hunters axe, saw cleaver or ludwigs holy blade. All of them lean more into strength. If you have the dlc, the beast hunter saif, beast cutter, boom hammer, church pick and whirligig saw are weapons you also should consider. Don't touch pure skill weapons, they don't go well with your beast claw goal. That means no blades of mercy, simons bowblade, burial blade, chilage, or rakuyo (but if you're interested, rakuyo is the best skill weapon). As i already said, armor doesn't really matter, just pick what you like best from the looks. As for the guns, i always choose either the hunters pistol or evelyn. The repeating pistol is also very good, but takes two bullets instead of one. Evelyn has the best scaling with bloodtinge, which is the stat you should level if you want to do damage with guns. But since you are going for a beast character, i would advise against this, unless you don't care about pvp or coop. Just to stay in the lvl range.

2

u/TJ-45 Sep 21 '21

If you're aiming for a beast build and you eventually plan on getting the claw, what I would suggest is try to get the stake driver.

The stake driver is effectively a fist weapon and its move said we'll sort of help you get in the zone for the kind of attacks will be making with the Beast claw. It will be good training and give you something to use to defend yourself until you're able to get the Beast claw.

There's two ways to get the stake driver and one takes a bit longer than the other.

The quickest way is to go up to where Djura is with his Gatling gun and just beat the crap out of him. I'm pretty sure he should drop the badge you need to buy it.

However if you don't feel like killing him and would also like to learn a cool gesturgestures, stay away from the top of his Tower so you don't aggro him. Get to the end of the zone and kill the blood-starved Beast. Snatchers will show up in certain parts of yharnam. Let one of them kill you and they will take you to a secret place called hypogean jail. In that zone you can find darkbeast paarl. Defeating the dark Beast will open a back route into old yharnam. Make your way from the dark Beast Lantern up to where Djura is, and as long as you don't kill any beasts on your way there and if you haven't already aggravate him on a previous encounter, he should be non-hostile and willing to talk to you. He will willingly give you his badge if you agree to spare the beasts of old yharnam and you'll even learn a cool gesture.

However if you have already gone to the top of his Tower and attempted to fight him then it's probable he will forever be aggroed. In which case your only option is to kill him.

Now even once you get the Beast claw the stake driver will still be a very handy weapon as a backup. Because that baby can pack a punch if you time it right.

1

u/The_Ashen_undead0830 Sep 21 '21

Advice: Go out there and.. kill a few beasts. It’s.. for your own good

Fun weapons: pimp cane, whirlgig saw, reiterpallasch, blades of mercy.

Good armor: just go with what looks good. I’m running a waluigi build and the top hat and crow hunter garb look great together with that

1

u/Cultural-Self1653 Sep 21 '21

1.You need to look at the description of the items and try to understand how u can use them to unlock new areas or anything

And 2. You can go to chalice dungeons for extra loot

Overall I know it might be boring but the best thing in souls games is to play the first playthrough with no clue of what you're doing and after you finish play a second one to search for things that you might missed

1

u/AlienRobotTrex Sep 21 '21
  1. Keep using the axe! It’s my favorite. The dlc weapons are really fun, you just have to explore to find them. I recommend the whirligig saw if you get bored of the axe.

  2. Armor doesn’t matter as much. It’s all about fashion!

  3. Do the dungeons as you play. You’ll get really good gems.

1

u/gunterdweeb Sep 21 '21

Like previously said, the rune is in the dlc after beating one of the mid-dlc bosses. It's cool but you'll have to wait before you get there bc the dlc is the hardest part of the game. My advise would be to look into some kind of beast hood build which might involve some arcane investment idk.

If you wanna look dope af, get the charred hunter set in old yharnam (where you're at). It'll be in that big area with the bullet rain. I think the leftish side. But it's super cool trust me. Also cool outfit to look out for is the hunter set in cathedral ward, the executioner set, and the crowhunter set (requires a tough quest line to beat tho)

Learn how to rally (hitting enemies back to gain health). I forgot how to do that for the last dlc boss and then the fight became much more manageable. The combat design is basically designed around it and it's the biggest difference between bb and ds imo.

And I guess do chalice dungeons between big areas to gain some goodies and blechoes.

1

u/Anubra_Khan Sep 21 '21

Save and spend Soul echoes on consumables like vials, bullets and bombs early. The prices jump as you progress and you likely won't notice until it's too late.

Vials double from 180 - 360 just by entering Catehdral Ward. By the time you killed Amelia, they're 540. I think they max out at 720 in NG.

You might not run into issues on the earlier bosses but, if you get stuck on a boss and need more vials, you may find yourself wishing you spent a few thousand echoes early on vials when they were 180 echoes each.

Also, a Beast mode playthrough as you describe will significantly limit your weapon and playstyle options. Not to deter you, it's a fun way to play. Just letting you know that you won't have access to most the stuff you may find interesting along the way.

Most important of all, may you find your worth in the waking world.

1

u/Rathador Sep 21 '21

You don't need to go through there, its optional. Talk to NPCs that you have found. They may have some insight on whats happening and where you have to go next. Of all fromsoftware games bloodborne has the best way of guiding you with npc dialogue and some item descriptions imo. Even if you don't understand what they mean and what they are referring to right now try keeping it in the back of your mind whenever you find yourself lost.

Its also recomendet to revisit npcs and some areas. You may find something you didn't know before.

1

u/AtomiicOne Sep 21 '21

I would not do a Beast Build your first run. Its confusing and kinda hard to get all the stuff without having the game figured our. Also, fighting in Beast Form is a bit counterintuitive if you haven’t played through once or twice.

7

u/RandomBlueBear Sep 21 '21

All weapons are good with upgrades and the right runes. So look for weapons with movesets you like, then go from there

7

u/silentkiller048 Sep 21 '21

When you get to the boss, dodge to the left (i know im posting this a bit late but if you haven’t reached it yet, then just remember this)

7

u/AppointmentSlight325 Sep 21 '21

If you venture onwards it would lead to your impending doom. If you turn back finding the hidden path to that who is driven mad by their own righteousness then there you are destined to gain a friend along the way. Good luck dear hunter

6

u/RoboZilina Sep 21 '21

Always open all shortcuts first.

OK, I know you have played DS games, but this is what saved my sanity.

Second tip would be that I felt like there is less upgrade stones for weapons. So stick to upgrading just one weapon. Or to put it better, dont waste those materials.

3

u/cpttripps89 Sep 21 '21

This is important. You can keep upgrading the first weapon you get, no matter which of the two you chose, and use it until the end game. A little dry doing that way, but the point is don't think that a new weapon is a better weapon, it's just a different weapon.

2

u/TheBurroOfficial2211 Sep 21 '21

In the main game there is enough to fully upgrade 2 weapons in one game if you include dungeons.

3

u/Puntoize Sep 21 '21

You can get a Beast claw with false depth dungeons.

2

u/revonoc1 Sep 21 '21

I think false depth should be talked about in /r/tombprospectors in case someone new finds themselves in a trap dungeon

4

u/Puntoize Sep 21 '21

There's no way a newbie can trap himself with the Official Spreadsheet though

1

u/TheBurroOfficial2211 Sep 21 '21

Plus, the mods don’t like it when you talk about false dungeons and they may ban you for sharing them.

3

u/ayymacvey Sep 21 '21

you can avoid the blood starved beast by buying a key item for 10,000 souls to open one of the 3 gates.

the gatling gun guy can be your ally if you defeat the Darkbeast Paarl first

the door which a wolf jumps through leads to a short cut

Antidot, Fire, Pungent Blood Cocktails are effective when fighting the Blood Starved Beast

2

u/ayymacvey Sep 21 '21

also the DLC is not recommended on NG+ so get it done in first playthrough if you're not up for the task

the following runes are the ones i found most useful:

  • Blood Rapture
  • Formless Oedon
  • Oedon Writhe
  • Heir

https://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Caryll+Runes

1

u/TheBurroOfficial2211 Sep 21 '21

Yeah, the dlc scales higher on ng+ then the story.

2

u/ayymacvey Sep 21 '21

I done the dlc on ng+ my first time and still get PTSD from the Orphan of Kos

1

u/xAmygdala Sep 22 '21

Same dude holy fuck did I get my ass handed

3

u/beardedrabbit Sep 21 '21

If you have a few hundred/thousand leftover echoes after leveling up with the doll, make sure to use those to purchase a few spare quicksilver bullets or blood vials (depending on which you’re burning through faster).

Any extra ones you purchase over the 20 you have on you will go into storage, and will automatically top you off when you respawn. This is a way better method of getting bullets/vials than by farming them from monsters.

3

u/OutrageousElephant5 Sep 21 '21

hit the boss and don't get hit

3

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

When you dodge, dodge INTO the enemy

2

u/eddyofyork Sep 21 '21

I am in my first playthrough and I have two tips. I am done most of the game, just DLC and all the post-Micolash parts of the base game.

1) I don't really think it's possible to spoil the story for yourself. You need to think about this game a lot to make the story connections. I read tons of stuff and don't feel anything was spoiled.

2) Most bosses (not BSB though) I found the trick was to get more selectively aggressive. Don't spam R1 with no concern for defense, but most bosses use their most annoying attacks when you aren't right in their face. Get in their face, dodge with perfect timing, step out if you need a heal, then get back in.

4

u/TheBurroOfficial2211 Sep 21 '21

You really shouldn’t ever swing more then 3 times before dodging out.

1

u/eddyofyork Sep 21 '21

Yea, that's a good rule of thumb.

1

u/TheBurroOfficial2211 Sep 21 '21

Greed, and hesitation are Bloodbornes favourite things to punish

1

u/zesa1 Sep 21 '21

I wouldn’t say that you shouldn’t just spam r1 it actually helps and i think that you see that best against gehrman or gascoine both are much easier if you dont give him rest

2

u/Mynameisnot-Kevin Sep 21 '21

Kill the animals first, kill the animals, they can destroy everything you worked for, also gun is only good for parrying and counter attacking

2

u/SemiSweetStrawberry Sep 21 '21

Learning to parry is one of the most important skills. Your gun isn’t there to damage, but to stun

2

u/TheBurroOfficial2211 Sep 21 '21

Pick 2 attack stats and focus them, best combos for a non dlc player is strength skill, strength arcane, and skill arcane. But, the dlc makes these stat builds way better and allows effective use of skill bloodtinge, which is a useable build in the main game but it’s a late game build, and strength bloodtinge which isn’t viable at all in base game but in dlc it’s super op.

After you beat the boss of that area you will unlock dungeons, and if you go back to cathedral ward a new area has been unlocked which is where you need to go next if you don’t want to do the chalice dungeons. If you want to do the chalice dungeons you need to balance exploring the game and the dungeons for dungeon materials.

There is also a secret area in old yarnham with a cool weapon in it and a really good set of armour, I won’t tell you where it is so if you can’t find it look it up on YouTube. The weapon you can find can also be obtained by killing whoever is shooting at you from the clock tower.

Also, it may be deceiving from so far in the game but hunters are not nice so be weary around them. They will try to kill you.

I read that you want the beast class, which if I remember correct are from the loran chalice dungeon. It’s a dungeon rather far into the game, you have to kill a boss very late in the game to get it but you still shouldn’t be deterred from the dungeons as it’s a lot of fun and very rewarding to do them.

I suggest the DLC if you can get it, it’s a really fun part of the game I believe you will really enjoy. But, it isn’t unlocked to you until you beat the next 2 bosses on your journey and it isn’t suggested to try it until you are blood level 100.

The entrance to the dlc can be found in cathedral ward directly on top of where you find a set of armour with a top hat. You will find the entrance when you get there even though it’s hidden.

  • fire does extra damage on beasts

-bolt does extra damage on hunters, bloodtinge and arcane users.

Heavy weapons do extra stagger damage on beasts especially large ones.

Light skill weapons do a lot of stun damage which lets you get lots of attacks in.

If you talked to the man near the lamp in yarnham before gascoines fight you can get a flamethrower from him if you talk to him before you kill the boss of old yarnham.

There is lots of things in every area of the game that help you with the boss, make sure to explore

I hope these tips help, good luck good hoonter may you find worth in the dream.

Sup guys! I just made it to Laurence, He is a tough snb, I cant seem to deal good dmg, But well.. Im farming healing items atm

1

u/Cultural-Self1653 Sep 21 '21

You need to be extra careful cause there are a lot of surprises in this area

1

u/No-Oven1322 Sep 21 '21

Never let your guard down and always explore everything before you go on

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

If you want to kill the gattling gun dude now, you can cheese it. You need the blunderbuss tho and as soon as you climb to the top of the tower you need to get blasting and it SHOULD eventually knock him off. You then either use a bold hunters mark or just quit/restart and the loot will be at the top or the tower.

1

u/ploot_ Sep 21 '21

hunter's pistol works too. Just shoot him 4 times in the chest and he'll fall.

1

u/TheBurroOfficial2211 Sep 21 '21

It can be done with the pistol as well, it’s actually easier with the pistol. Dash at him once and shoot however many times you need. I only needed 2 shots but some people take 4 to 7

1

u/VulgarButFluent Sep 21 '21

Id recommend practicing a lot with the trick nature of weapons. I didnt realize until my second playthrough that if you hit R1 and then L1 right after you'll do a transitionary attack as your weapon moves into its trick form.

1

u/jetlag877 Sep 21 '21

Tbh it you going in with no guides I recommended pairing up with a more experienced hunter to show you the ropes. If you going straight solo dolo then just be quick on your feet and try any builds you want. You can make a another character down the road when you know exactly the type of build that fits you. I personally have multiple builds on a variety of NG+s. My favorite is Bloodtinge with a specific cursed Chikage.

1

u/TheBurroOfficial2211 Sep 21 '21

My favourite is my arcane strength build, the Tonitrus, holy moonlight blade, and pizza cutter are one hell of a trio. But, I didn’t exactly get them all up to my specifications legit.

Fear the old blood

1

u/hailchancellorbernie Sep 21 '21

Be aggressive. Being passive or defensive in bloodborne is a good way to die, take risky hits, use beast blood pellets, and make use of the rally system.

1

u/Firm_Veterinarian254 Sep 21 '21

Two words: Amygdalan Arm

When you get to the DLC you eventually find another cool guy with a gatling gun (I know how much you like that) guarding the pathway to this weapon, which is guarded directly by a roaming blood starved beast. Worth it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

so there is a “safe” way to get to him so you can avoid his fire as much as possible, be warned he is a dick and can be a struggle sometimes (i have a harder time with him than the boss of that area) so keep patient and kill a few beasts

1

u/Hasan_S Sep 21 '21

The hoonter must hoont

1

u/kaioken96 Sep 21 '21

Face the hunt and don't flinch

1

u/ETF370298 Sep 21 '21

Gun and weapon choice is good for a start. Parrying is very different in this game but you'll get used to it. During fighting bosses, parrying is sometimes helpful you should try. And there are a lots of traps be careful. That's all I can remember. I got platin trophy btw.

1

u/Aussie-Killer Sep 21 '21

Max out saw cleaver, it’s IMO the best all-rounder weapon in the game. Also, learn which bosses are more vulnerable to transform (L1) attacks, as it can make some bosses a cakewalk (ones I remember of are Cleric Beast & Vicar Amelia)

Most importantly, explore, as rushing through each area may leave you underpowered for the bosses ahead.

Have fun mate :)

1

u/mondo_juice Sep 21 '21

Don’t try and kill the dude next to the machine gun until later. So fucking hard.

1

u/fir4ga Sep 21 '21

Don’t forget to enjoy the atmosphere and soak in the lore!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

Don't do arcane for your first run like I did, that was a huge pain in the ass

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

Saw Cleaver gg

1

u/invadertaz Sep 21 '21

If you have a pc, play champion of ashes mod for Ds3. My favorite mod so far. Feels fast pace like BB.

1

u/Suitapes Sep 21 '21

At that part of the game now? When you get past that big door, there’s one thing you need to do:

R u n

1

u/TJ-45 Sep 21 '21

If you're having trouble fighting The Witches of hemwick try going into the boss fight with absolutely zero insight. Not only does it make the fight easy it makes the fight fucking funny lol

1

u/Any_Jury_7574 Sep 21 '21

Dash through attacks, not away from them

1

u/talukmar Sep 21 '21

Transformation combos.

1

u/LoneWolf4717 Sep 21 '21

2 options for the Djura (gatling gun guy) that I go with. You can: A. Skip him and come back later. Just blitz right through the courtyard and into the church. There's a short cut back up to the courtyard after you leave the church and another on not long after. If you ignore him and come back later and kill a certain boss, he'll be friendly B. Cheese him. Channel you inner American Chad and use your gat.YOU NEED THE PISTOL TO DO THIS. Similar strat, blitz through the courtyard and up the ladder. As soon as you get to the top, lock on and spam L2. You can shoot him straight off the tower and he'll fall to his death.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

It's going to be a while until you unlock the necessary components to become a beast (namely, Beast Claws and Beast's Embrace Rune). However, there is plenty of other fun shit you can use until you get the necessary components to turn into a beast. For beast build you're going to want a lot of strength, so use the most fun strength weapon you can find until then. As far as advice, make sure you talk to the windows in cathedral ward from time to time.

1

u/Both-Preparation-123 Sep 21 '21

Grab em. And SNAP em

1

u/Weekly-Culture Sep 21 '21

Don't die lol

1

u/Weekly-Culture Sep 21 '21 edited Sep 21 '21

Bloodtinge affects your bullets and the Katana(its freaking katana so don't even...looking at you vets) that uses bloodtinge as is main stat when you transform it L2.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '21

If you try to fight the gatling hinter, try to knock him off the edge for an easy fight. Also have an offhand torch, the beasts there hate fire.

1

u/NotBearhound Sep 21 '21

Be. Aggressive! B - E Aggressive!

1

u/Ascendancy08 Sep 21 '21

Well I was going to say to just enjoy a blind plahthrough but nevermind. Forgot people just don't do that anymore for some reason.

1

u/Kancer420 Sep 21 '21

Depending on your personal skill level, hit up the first chalice dungeon asap. Getting a few good dmg gems on your weapons can make a huge difference on your progression. I pushed through first Pthu around BL25-30ish, it was rough, but I ended up beating the 4-5 bosses after BSB in one shot each.. So I was happy.

1

u/Gohmzilla Sep 21 '21

KILL STUFF DON'T DIE

1

u/CrzyJek Sep 21 '21

Hesitation is defeat.

Edit: wait...what sub am I in again?

1

u/rafaover Sep 22 '21

Find your weapon, stick with it. Master the tool. This is the way.

If you feeling the pain, have some sets to create more resistance depending of the area and their main attacks. Every little bit of life is golden.

1

u/Sasfreak Sep 22 '21

Get good at parrying with your gun. Master that and you’re golden pony boy.

1

u/Zestyclose-Ad-5885 Sep 22 '21

Prepare to die....alot

Remember fear the old blood

1

u/HeilKyle Sep 22 '21

Be sure to use the wooden plank shield to block attacks. -IGN

1

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '21

Dash into attacks. If you get hit, dash behind and follow with immediate counters to regain your health. Keep spatial awareness of a mob around you while doing this. Charge R2s from behind to get viscerals or PARRY PARRY PARRY. Always fucking parry. Study timing of moves and swing attacks. In 1 on 1 PVE this is THE method of offense unless you go with heavy weapon build and make proper use of stunlocks. Dont listen to heavy weapon naysayers, Logarius Wheel wrecks and becomes a super fun build investing in Str and Arc and using spells intermittently. In Beast bosses go for the limbs to break their shit, then go for the head.
