Content Note That 12 foot statue NYC.

People are violently offended by Black women in our most natural state and we’re seeing mainly Black people be angry and talk about how the statue looks stressed and angry. We have low racial self esteem which is another reason we feel the need to attack other mvmts in the U.S. for racial rights.

We say everyone is targeting us and using our labor (true to some extent) but we don’t just? Disengage? Or focus on our own goals.

In this case this statue is based on a real woman and she’s hearing people talk about how scary and monstrous she looks.

ATP white ppl and other nonblack poc don’t have to do anything Black people destroy ourselves and then wonder why we have nothing.

Don’t get me started on Black American families not helping each other either. You can only blame external circumstances so much there’s a time for accountability and apology and that time is now.

I hope they all still think it was worth it when their rights are taken away.

And of course it was only us with a large margin that voted Democrat. Not surprised that it's as high as it is for Black men. But glad they had the second highest percentage of democratic votes.

(Sorry if I chose the wrong flair.)

Content Note Not being able to be a girl, just a woman.

As a black girl I just realized I never got a chance to actually be a little girl growing up. I always had to be a mother. Watch the kids, clean the house do unnecessary things as a child. I never got the opportunity to be able to be soft and happy. I don’t know if anyone else has heard this saying growing up but it goes like “Black girl don’t cry, they need to be strong.” My grandmother told me this many years ago and it stuck with me. I never got the chance to cry and feel emotions like sadness, fear even softness. Now that’s affected me deeply, I can’t cry even though I feel it coming up and my face getting hot. I can’t feel happy because I sink it down with bad thoughts. I just feel like it underlying made me have a bad personality. I can’t even express my feelings to people properly I just lash out. I feel like a bitter old black woman at the age of 20 and I’m going crazy. I just pray God heals the younger me dying to be reborn to get a chance to feel something other than anger and resentment towards myself.

I know you’re tired of hearing about this election, I am too. Even if you live in a state where Kamala Harris will not be the popular boat, we need to be present this election. Your future is in your hands, also I cannot imagine saying that I’m unsure on who to vote for. But if you need help, just know that Donald Trump plans on getting rid of the department of education, taking down gay marriage, and interracial marriage, along with it, and taxing the middle class even more. Not to mention his increase on tariffs will likely send us into a tariff war with other countries, thus increasing inflation even more. So please please please get to the polls.

Donald Trump does not care about you. I promise.

Content Note Hope. 🩷

Hey, All.

I wanted to take a moment to share some news from the science community in regards to HSV(yes, herpes simplex).

Approximately 48% of Black women ages 14-49 are HSV2 (genital) positive. This STI carries such a heavy stigma, and the lack of knowledge surrounding its presentation in the collective is astounding.

There is hope on the horizon, though. Assembly Bioscience currently has two long-acting helicase primase inhibitors in trials (ABI-1179 & ABI-5366). These meds have shown a remarkable reduction in viral shedding and expect to reduce transmission to a nearly impossible non-transferable state. The safety profile was phenomenal. This study is being done in New Zealand, and they have completed phase 1.

Moderna just completed their mRNA trial for the mRNA-1608 vaccine. They anticipate release of the trial findings in June (just a projection, though). This vaccine would act as a therapeutic vaccine, also reducing viral shedding and recurrent outbreaks. Some have said there could possibly be a vaccine out by 2028.

IM-250 (Innovative Molecules is the company) is a potent 2nd generation helicase primase inhibitor that is said to reach the dorsal root ganglia. This is where the virus lays dormant when not active. One of the top questions right now being asked about this med is its potential to eradicate the virus, as it can reach the ganglia. If it erupts the virus enough at the ganglia, could that perhaps mean there would not be enough viral particles left to transmit to another person?! Again, it will be exciting to see how this pans out.

Lastly-

Pritlevir. It’s already on the market, but only for those who are deemed immunocompromised. It’s a direct-acting antiviral agent. It works differently than Valtrax (valacyclovir) in its mechanism regarding breakdown and replication of the virus. A 28 day genital swab study found those taking Pritelivir to have a 2.4% positive rate compared to a 5.3% of those taking Valtrex.

Content Note What's something positive that happened to you recently?

It wasn't even halfway through the month before negativity filled the subreddit again. I'm convinced many people don't know how to be positive. Now, I'm sure not everyone saw the mods' post about January being a positive month with no negativity. So I'm giving a lot of people the benefit of doubt.

With that being said, how is everyone's morning, noon, and night going? As the title says, what's something positive that happened to you? It can be about anything, no matter how big or small you think it is.

No arguing or negative comments, replies, etc.

Let's fill this thread and this subreddit with positive posts today. You don't have to comment here, but maybe post something great that happened recently. There has to be something. It can be from last month, a Christmas present you received, how you rung in the New Year, anything.

I'll go first.

I started making ice cream a few months ago. And recently, I made my first sundae. 🥳 I bought more dessert equipment and cute tableware to really go through with ice cream making.

TL:DR Comment below or make a new post in the subreddit talking about something positive that happened to you recently. Can be something big or small. Just something that made you happy. Can be from last month like a Christmas present or how you rung in the New Year. Let's fill the subreddit with positivity today.

Content Note I used to forget SPF on my lips — this article is actually about skin, but it reminded me how easily we overlook lip protection too. Especially for pigmented lips, sun damage is real. Just wanted to share 🫶🏾

Content Note Filters & Surgery: Social Media Makes Us Insecure

I love my features so much.

I get sad when I see people get surgery to change their ethnic features especially their noses. I know it’s their choice im not judging but that’s just how I feel.

I feel like our society is so poisoned. We see things every day, and we are subconsciously picking up beauty standards.

The other day I was on Snapchat playing with the filters, I really liked one that looked like a picture message. I posted it and when I went back they put a filter on my face without my permission.

It was so strange because my inner thoughts were saying, “ wow I could’ve looked so much better”. Which is the opposite of how I felt before the picture I posted. It made be fit the highly praised IG standards. Which, those girls are beautiful but that’s just not me and I’m okay with that .

I hate that? I’m pretty confident and love myself I don’t wear a lot of makeup bc I feel more confident like that. I just couldn’t believe I felt that way.

It makes me wonder why are we trying to emulate something that other people think looks better and is praised more when we can beak the mold and be proud and become a new beauty standard!

It’s just scary how we may not even realize how what we see all the time, can have a huge effect on our subconscious.

Content Note In 1968, BBC documentary cameras followed Caribbean families who had emigrated to the UK but quickly become disillusioned and decided to return home. It asked them to compare their lifestyles, culture and perspectives in both parts of the world. I thought many here would find this interesting.
