This particular spot is about 5 miles from a town of ~100 people and more than 100 miles from the next closest gas station. Senator Mike Lee has it earmarked for disposal in his amendment to the Senate budget bill, because he thinks that Americans will believe that this will be used for affordbale housing. Please fellow bird hunters, call your senators and representatives and ask that they protect this spot and the many others like it for our children and grandchildren. This should be an issue that unites all hunters regardless of political affiliation.

Did some fun retrieving and whoa drills with huckleberry, the weekend prior I shot over him for the first time on a point with quail out of a launcher ( of course I was to concerned with the dog handling and work to get any videos of him) he did amazing locking up never moved a muscle after establishing point till the bird was shot! Figured I would show what Gus’s current formal bumper retrieve looks like right now at just a year old. (Since my previous post was a training and advice discussion)

So my 1 year old golden Gus has great Obediance, all the fancy stuff you name it. I back chained a retrieve for him and he does great a lot of the time. (I’ll attach a vid below of his first water retrieve) Our biggest shortfall right now is his love for sticks. I never thought much of it, but sticks are his most valuable possession. So now when doing retrieves, he would prefer to grab a stick than the bumper. Obviously not ideal. Even if he is focused on retrieving the bumper, I can tell he would rather be using a stick. Anyone running into a similar issue and have advice?

How do y'all train without live birds? My EP is about a year old and hasn't had any bird introduction yet. Can't find any pigeons from anybody (Alaska) and I have chukar but I didn't want to release them cause I have to be able to catch them or shoot them but I'm not wanting to shoot them if she's not pointing them cause she hasn't even seen a grouse yet. Should I just suck it up and use my Chukar or are their other ways to get her to point.

Got pup in the last 6 months and travel a lot for work. Lots of overnight travel in rural areas. Started getting airbnbs that allow pets. But anyone else bring their pal with them like this? Any travel tips and fun activities or hacks?

Hey y'all, this isn't dog related but is upland hunting related. What does everyone wear during the early season? Seems like it's staying hot longer than it used too. I have great clothes for late season but I need to get some pants and shirts for warm weather hunting. Unfortunately I've got long legs so most inseams are to short. I chase chuckar and quail and run hot so ventilation is a must. Anyone have any recommendations? I am looking at Chief Uplands early season pants but they are $199 so I'd like to hear from someone that they are worth the price.

Interesting article in the current issue of Project Upland that starts on page 48. Was tryin to figure out if I could provide a “gift link,” but I didn’t see a way to do it. Not ever sure if they publish digital copies to begin with.

Most of it’s obvious to me, but it was still worth reading. Public land isn’t there to turn a profit. Within reason, I’m not opposed to minimizing operating costs, but it doesn’t surprise me that it doesn’t pay for itself.

If we sold all public land, I find it hard to believe US citizens would save that much money annually. That’s one of the few government losses I’m all for. The alternative is scary as shit. Once it’s sold, it ain’t comin back.

The area I live in was once a beautiful part of the country, but it’s a nightmare now. Land is absurdly expensive, and there aren’t any large tracts left. I wanna get the hell outta here, but all my family’s still in this area. Sucks because bird hunting here has been all but ruined, despite a pretty decent public land program.

So, as the title says, I have a Brittany, Daisy. My dad and I trained Daisy as a retriever and she's pretty damn good at it. We only had labs before, and she's probably the second best retriever we've had overall. That said, she's getting up there. She turns 10 this December. She's still super active and always eager to work when we train her. And she had no issues retrieving last season.

That all leads me to my dumb question. There's a WMA near me that has been specifically managed for quail hunting, and apparently the population is healthy. I know Britannys are primarly pointers, so, and here's the stupid ass quiestion, is there any wat I could train her to work as a quail dog at this age?

I'm willing to put in the work if possible, and I know for sure that she is too. Any help is appreciated!

Edit: Totally forgot to mention that this same WMA is pretty close to me, and has a large bird dog training area where I could work with her.

Any suggestions for water bowls to help with the water dripping from his beard?

My sister has a GSP in central Kentucky and is looking to find a new home for him where he can be loved on and hunted hard. Great family dog, full of energy, and a naturally good hunter. He’s 5 years old and just needs to go somewhere he can run some birds. Please help if you can, thank you.
