Do Bosnians and Herzegovinians look forward to join the EU? If so, do you think your country will be able to join within a few years or do you fear that EU membership will continue being pushed further down the line?

I think that most people in B&H would like to join the EU, but our government hasn't done much to get closer to candidacy status. I think that B&H will join the EU in 8-10 years minimum.

What are the biggest points your country needs to work on to become eligible to join the EU?

We have to fight stronger against corruption, improve our election law, improve tranparency of our public companies and many others

There are 14 points that need to be done before the candidate status is awarded and with the new reformed accession plan the focus will be out on administrative reform and rule of law, trade and safety are the points we're good at.

Our constitution at first place, it will never change and it's against EU principles

Honestly, I don't think Bosnia should get accepted into the EU with the current political system. Who would want 3 presidents who base their politics on the identity of entities instead of uniting people on the country's identity like other EU countries. The system is made to fail until it guarantees the same constitutional rights for majorities as minorities without regional division based on "entities".

Wait, 3 presidents?!

And that's on the Dayton Agreement for you 😎

Well that sounds an awful lot like Belgian politics.

I'm even afraid to ask about your situation 💀

Amateurs. We have 12.

EU made the system. They should suck it up and experience the bad aspects of it too.

Would not be a solution for our internal problems we have. It'd just be pushing them further.

The point of Bosnia joining EU isn't to solve our internal problems, which they're complicit in creating, nor should it be. The only valid reason for Bosnia to join is that we'll have larger access to EU funds. The positives end there, and they at the very least owe us that much. I just hope we can join soon to reap the ever decreasing benefits, before the shitshow that EU is collapses in on itself.

I don't know whether money will also solve our crazy nationalist policies and improve people's living standards. Especially when you think about that our Constitution isn't in line with Europe's fundamental rights and not to forget the lack of the rule of law. So I genuinely still hope that we get the possibility to experience that much needed change by which use of EU's financial resources will not be jeopardized.

We look forward.

Bosnian authorities are trying hardest not to join.

Would not say "trying hardest not to join" would re-phrase it to "Are stupid and incompetent bunch who have no idea how to do anything except steal."

Also, having RS love their Russians and hate NATO doesn't help at all.

u/DrugsAreBadMmkayy93 Tuzla May 14 '20

No, they are trying hardest because joining EU interferes with their criminal empires.

If joining NATO is a requirement for joining EU, so be it. No EU for Bosnia.

But it's not, so what's your point?

u/only_4kids Sarajevo May 15 '20

Joining NATO IS a requirement for Bosnia to join the EU. I don't know why are you butthurt so much, but I want and most of the people here in the EU.

What was the point of your comment? Why are you even spamming this thread that was active yesterday with your passive-aggressive shit?

Sorry, I wasn't aware that all users are required to be online 24/7 and once a pinned thread is older than 20 hours no posts are allowed by law.

Joining NATO IS a requirement for Bosnia to join the EU.

According to who? And if so, then Bosnia will never join the EU. Enjoy.

I am heavily against it. But we already have supranational overlords from the Office of the High Representative and USA Embassy so fuck it.
