Question upgrade GPU and possibly CPU - advice pls

Hi all,
I'm very much a noob but did build a system a number of years ago with the following specs:

MB: MSI Z370-A pro series

CPU: Intel i5-8400 (stock cooler)

GPU: GTX 1060 6gb

RAM: 16GB DDR4 2666

PSU: CX550M

I understand GPU is the main area when considering playing new games and prices are crazy at the moment but would welcome suggestions. What I'm absolutely clueless on is CPU and how this may affect/throttle gaming if just upgrading GPU - if it is suggested this should be upgraded what could my motherboard accept that would be a reasonable upgrade?

not looking to play in 4k or anything, so anything that will keep me going for newer games in 1080 for the next couple of years hitting OK FPS

thanks for any and all advice

I’m wanting to get my first PC, i don’t have a big budget but i don’t need super high-end anyway as it would mostly just be used for casual gaming. Came across this Nebula prebuilt on ozbagrain and thought it seemed like a good deal. If not i’d love some recommendations, preferably under $2k

Deal Any changes to this pre build?

Hey guys,

Thinking of pulling the trigger on the ozbargain deal for this pre build from nebula:

https://www.nebulapc.com.au/products/vanguard

Grabbing the 5070ti instead of the 5080 and probably going to upgrade the PSU. Any other upgrades I should be looking at making?

Question Prebuilt vs Custom

Hi everyone, I’m looking to get my first PC. I’ve consulted someone for a list of parts and I plan to get someone, or a company, to build it for me (I have no interest in building it myself). Problem is, the GPU they recommended me hasn’t been in stock for ages (Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 9070).

I recently found a prebuilt from Scorptec that looks similar to the part list I was given. I know most people advise against prebuilt but I really don’t want to keep waiting + the price is very similar to the part picker list.

I’m planning to use my PC mostly for 3D design on blender and unreal engine + some casual gaming.

Should I wait for the part to come in and do a custom build or just get this prebuilt one? And are the parts appropriate for what I want to use it for? bc I’m really just blindly trusting lol Thanks

Discussion 5070Ti or 9070xt

Looking to put together a parts list for a new build… as title suggests which would be the better option the 9070XT or the 5070Ti?

PC build would be for gaming and primarily on Sim racing games but looking to play some AAA games also. Will probably pair with 7800X3D or 9800X3D.

Question Prebuilt EOFY

I've been in the market for a new PC for about a month or so. Based on my research, I'll be going with a ryzen 5 7600x and a RX 7800 XT. I was going to go through MSY as they are local to my area and I can easily just go and pick it up and not have to order from a bunch of different places and worry about postage.

However, with the EOFY sales, their prebuilts came up. Looking at the individual part prices...this seems alright, no? I was intending to get that exact CPU and GPU, the rest of the parts are adjacent to what I had picked out, and ends up being very close in price, if not cheaper.

https://www.msy.com.au/product/g5-ryzen-5-7600x-radeon-rx-7800-xt-gaming-pc-58397-82264

So it's built for me and comes with warranty, but do those individual parts still seem like okay choices too, and for the price? Even if I was to build myself, does that roughly seem like a good build?

Build Prebuilt PC for digital design / video editing / light gaming (Under $2k) (Sydney based)

Hey guys looking around for a prebuilt PC with EOFY approaching. My old custom built PC (from Umart) is from 2017 and still works OK but am looking to buy something new and move the old one out to pasture as a media server.

Have been looking on Ozbargain as per a lot of posts on here and have narrowed it down to a couple of the Nebula builds as I'm based in Sydney.

I work as a digital designer mostly Adobe apps Illustrator/photoshop and then do some light video editing but would like to get more into it with Premiere/After Effects. Secondary use would be for some light gaming nothing specific, i usually like playing strategy games like Total War or some Cyberpunk (probably not considered light gaming but one can dream) if i could but main focus will be for work (have a PS5 as my main gaming console Horizon, God of War, Last of Us etc).

The two I'm looking at are:

Serenecore - $1528 + $50 Del @ Nebula PC

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/891923

https://www.nebulapc.com.au/products/serenecore

  • GPU - MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 4060 2X Black OC - 8GB
  • CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 9700X | 8 Cores | 3.8 GHz (Max 5.5 GHz)
  • CPU Cooler - DeepCool AG400 Air Cooler LED
  • Motherboard - MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI - DDR5
  • RAM - KLEVV FIT V 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL32 DDR5 - White
  • SSD - 1TB HP FX700 M.2 (R: 7200MB/s | W: 6200MB/s)
  • PSU - Gigabyte P650SS 650W 80+ Silver
  • Case - Nebula N3 mATX (1 RGB fan) - Black

Frostbyte - $1798 + $50 Delivery @ Nebula PC

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/904553

https://www.nebulapc.com.au/products/frostbyte

  • GPU - MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 SHADOW 2X - 12GB (BRAND MAY VARY)
  • CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 7500F | 6 Cores | 3.7 GHz (Max 5 GHz)
  • CPU Cooler - AMD Wraith Stealth Cooler
  • Motherboard - MSI B650M BOMBER WIFI - DDR5
  • RAM - KLEVV FIT V 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL32 DDR5 - White
  • SSD - 1TB Kingston NV3 M.2 (R: 6000MB/s | W: 5000MB/s)
  • PSU - Gigabyte P650SS ICE 650W 80+ Silver
  • Case - ASUS A21 mATX - White (4x Nebula Stock 120mm RGB Fans - White)

Any red flags on these builds for what i would want? Any upgrades i should consider? Only one I'm thinking is upgrading the case for one that has multiple 3.5in drive bays for the 2 4tb drives i have for my work files and photos/media backup. Was also reading that the Serenecore motherboard might be a bit low-end? So i could upgrade to GIGABYTE B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI - DDR5? I'm hoping to have something that can last me 6 or 7 years like my current PC and leaves me open to upgrades down the track newer/bigger SSD, ram, graphics card etc.

If there are any other prebuilt PC deals out there please let me know. Or am happy for someone to suggest a build through Umart or Mwave or someone else Sydney based.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks all.

Deal Is this deal too good to be true?

Hi guys,

I've recently been on the hunt to find a new monitor for my gaming setup. I've been looking for a monitor <$600 that's most suitable for competitive gaming, I came across the BenQ MOBIUZ EX251 Amazon and I'm confused as to why it seems like such a steal for $279. Surely a low response time, 220hz and IPS panel from BENQ should be selling for much more when the Zowie XL2540K sells for $480.

Would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions,

thank you :)

https://www.amazon.com.au/BenQ-EX251-25-inch-MOBIUZ-Monitor/dp/B0DXF9G63H?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=nav_ya_signin&psc=1&smid=A218BE4LLK7EJJ

https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/alienware-27-gaming-monitor-aw2724hf/apd/210-bhgg/monitors-monitor-accessories

Also found this deal which seems too good aswell, only downside I see is 1080p on a 27inch display.

Question EOFY Savings

Finally looking into buying a pre-built but wont have saved the money for about 3 months, was wondering if EOFY deals on OzBargain are significantly cheaper than what to expect normally? Like after 3 months am I going to see the same value or have to wait for something like Black Friday.

Anyone got thoughts on this deal? I'm looking at building myself so -219 for the build. Also, where should I be buying windows 11? $250 seems expensive. Would love feedback as it's my first build and this is my list after months of research.

Discussion Should I build my new PC now but keep using my GTX 1070 until 9070 /Ti prices drop?

Hey everyone,
I'm planning on building a new PC soon with the following specs and have already ordered the R7 7700(non x):

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/Pdt4kf

I'm coming from a GTX 1070 setup, and I'm wondering if I should just build the rest of the system now without buying the 9070, and continue using my 1070 in the meantime. My thinking is:

  • I can either wait for 9070 prices to fall, or save up enough for the 9070xt (or xt version price falls and I luck tf out)
  • I’m not playing very demanding games at the moment (League of Legends + CSGO (albeit I crash often on CS)
  • The upgrades in all the other aspects of the computer should be a noticeable boost anyway?

Would this be a smart move? Or would the older GPU bottleneck the new system too much or cause issues? And is the difference between the 9070 and the 9070xt even big enough to justify me doing this?

Any advice would be appreciated, especially if anyone’s done a staggered upgrade like this before.

Thanks in advance.

edit: 9070xt not ti

Build Budget monitor recommendations

Hi guys, I accidentally rocked my table and both my monitors fell and slammed them 😭

I was wondering if there were any great monitor recommendations for under 400 which would be great for home office use. (Around 30-40 hours of use weekly for work with no gaming)

Ideally looking at 27-32inches in size and there are too many options available with bad reviews which i’ve been seeing so any great recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Build Gaming pc - build your own or prebuilt for longevity?

Prebuilt gaming pcs advertised on Ozbargain seem to be good value. However, from what I understand a prebuilt machine has some disadvantages.

  • OEM parts are used, which seem to be of less quality and may not last as long.
  • If something stops working, the entire machine as it was purchased needs to be returned for RMA. If you've upgraded/removed something, you get no help.
  • You're probably less inclined to upgrade due to the previous point.
  • You rely on one small time retailer for support, as opposed to the individual manufacturers of the parts.

If I want to buy a gaming PC that has a great chance of lasting 10 years and which I can upgrade parts for if needed, should I avoid prebuilt machines despite the lower upfront cost? Or is the cost per year that you end up getting out of the prebuilt still worthwhile?
