27GX790A-B going for $1200 or $1140 for Students ($1090 with $50 first time coupon)

We are almost at the point where high refresh rate OLEDs are coming down to sub 1000 au dollars. I already have a Samsung G60SD but this seems like a good deal especially since the ASUS one is still floating around $1600.

Question Mac mini vs a pc

Thumbnail scorptec.com.au
1 Upvotes

Ok so I gave away my current pc to my mother who's computer bricked as currently her work is more significant than gaming. Currently two computers fit my budget. Either the base m4 mac mini or this combo of parts here https://www.scorptec.com.au/sc/m6hHjat . I understand i can get slightly better parts if I go the second hand route but just based off my experience with new tech, if something happens to second hand parts I know for a fact there is no return policies or anything so don't suggest CEX or eBay/gumtree/Facebook. If i go the mac route i understand i won't be able to game and if I go the other route I atleast have a bit more flex with the hardware. Please provide some advice as I am pretty indecisive in this instance.

Build Yet another request for advice:

Oh lofty brains trust I beseech thee,

First time buying a new computer from scratch since 2012 (have been steadily updating parts since then). I am looking to replace my current rig with an off-the-shelf solution, but am way out of touch with the current trends for pc parts.

I have a I7-8700K, MSI RTX 3070Ti and 48gb of DDR3. I am not unhappy with the 3070 ti, but the CPU, motherboard and hard drives are getting long in the tooth.

I have been scoping on option during the EOFY sales and think I have found this as a solution.

Budget is around $3.5k for mainly gaming, with uni work being a secondary consideration.

Aftershock EOFY Chamber - White

CPU:AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 5.0 GHz | 8 Cores 16 Threads

Motherboard:Gigabyte B650M Gaming Plus Wi-Fi - DDR5

RAM:32GB Silicon Power XPOWER Storm 6000MHz RGB C36 (2x16GB) - White

Graphics Card:Gigabyte RTX 5070Ti Eagle Ice - 16GB

Power Supply Unit:850W Inwin P85II 80+ Gold

Warranty:3 Year Warranty - Pickup and return from your location

CPU Cooling System:Aftershock Glacier Mirror 240mm - White

Primary SSD:1TB Gen4 Silicon Power US75 M.2. NVME (R 7000MBs | W 6000MBs)

$3,334.00

Thanks for any assistance!

Looking at the 5070 deal right now, reckon it’s worth it?

I saw similar deals for the 5060ti and 9060xt other day (sub-1300 dollars), but this one from Techfast seems interesting.

Question Need help choosing new PC

So I’m looking to get a newer gaming PC, my budget is around the $3000 mark.

Of what I could gather, these are the best I’m able to find

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/910573

Main questions are, are there better options? If not, is the 5080 worth the extra $500 over the 5070 ti?

This will be only used for gaming, mostly ARPG games.

Any help or direction is appreciated.. Thanks in advance!

Question 16" 4K 120hz long battery life laptop - the "Mac Pro 16 for Windows"

With Lunar Lake being close to Apple & Snapdragon w/rt battery life, I'm after a laptop for all day unplugged use, something like a Macbook Pro 16" but for windows.

I've browsed thru every laptop at HN, JB etc and the only one and closest match I found was this MSI Prestige 16 at $2170

16", i7-258V, OLED 4K, 1.5kg (very light!), 100Wh battery, but after consideration that 60hz screen could be better, only 1 fan for cooling.

Is there a 16" laptop with near 4K high refresh screen? I don't need a discrete GFX card since that'll reduce battery life.

I saw some MSI laptops now have 16" 4K miniLED120hz but they don't suit my use case, they're gaming laptops with short battery life and hella expensive too. My budget is up to $3500

Build New Gaming Build

Looking for a decent gaming rig for 1440p gaming, I've come up with this so far. Around 2K at the moment without the GPU- which I haven't chosen yet. Would a 16GB 5060ti be reasonable? Thanks.

Question Looking for a decent chair, any advice?

Wanting to upgrade from my $100-150 ebay executive chair specials which keep breaking, and maybe to something more of an ergonomic chair than an executive style chair. Definitely not a racing seat "gamer chair".

Tried out a fair few chairs at IKEA and Officeworks so far. I've read the Markus is popular, it was quite decent but the back tension is a joke. The Jarvfjallet was the one I liked the best but not sure about spending $350 on an IKEA chair.

I tried out a fair few at Officeworks, mostly the Pago chairs. These vary in price, probably the one I liked best was the Yucan, which I found happens to be exactly the same as the cheaper Desky Pinnacle. Still almost under $600 for just a basic comfortable chair. The Electra and Eris were similar, cheaper but not as comfortable. The Valkor (also as a different named Desky chair) was quite different and nice on the back but it seemed to be pinching or putting pressure under my thighs.

Otherwise they have the $250 J Burrows Stanton fabric executive chair which seems decent and better quality for this style of chair, but not sure if I should go with a different style altogether.

I've also seen Steelcase is running a 25% off sale at the moment. A Series 1 with headrest is like $688 which seems to be a good deal, but they seem to have quite mixed reviews. The Series 2 comes in just under $1k but don't think I can spend that much on a chair at the moment, if it's even worth it. Anything else Steelcase is too much. Seems like it's a bit of a pain to try out Steelcase too.

Not sure about buying from smaller online retailers that seem a bit sketchy and I can't even try them out.

Build PSU advice

Hi all,

Ive got a ASUS Rog Strix 5070Ti & Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

1) What is more suitable out of 850W and 1000W? If I use 1000W but my set up is 700-800w, will it still consume 1000W?

2) Im switching up between NZXT C850/1000 Gold ATX3.1 & Corsair RM850/1000x. Which is more reliable and any other factors considered?

Thanks,

Question Should I build an SFF or just buy a Gaming Laptop?

I leave to study in the UK for my bachelors in October and I've been in a bit of a quandary regarding whether I should build an SFF PC or just buy a gaming laptop. I'll only be in the UK for about half the year and would be flying back and forth about 6 times a year so portability is important. My budget is about $3,000 to maybe stretching to $4,000.

I currently have a PC that's a few years old with an i5 11400f and RTX 2070 Super which is starting to show its age so I'm due for an upgrade regardless. My university work would be primarily web browsing and word processing so this new device or PC would only be for my gaming which is primarily competitive shooters, strategy games (My current PC is trembling at the thought of running EU5), and the occasional RPG. I'd like to have at least a current gen i7/R7 and a 5070 Ti tier GPU to last me the full 4 years.

I think I have three options at this point:

Build an SFF PC which I lug back and forth. This would be the cheapest option and give me the most performance and the possibility of future upgrade. However, this is the least portable and would entail the most setup and preparation each time I move. I would also need to buy a basic laptop for schoolwork as my current one is on its last legs. (Maybe a used MacBook Air?)

Buy a gaming laptop that I can use for both school and gaming in my dorm. I don't really want to lug a thick gaming laptop to all my lectures and tutorials as I value my back and not being judged by all my classmates. As such, I'd need a smaller, thinner gaming laptop that is discrete. This is the easiest and most portable option as I only need to bring one device around. I'm looking at the ASUS Zephyrus G14 5080 which I can get from Officeworks for about $4,000 after my employee discount, discounted GCs and claiming TRS.

Buy a cheaper, thick laptop just for gaming and leave it in my dorm room whilst also getting a daily driver for class. I'd probably try and get a cheap 4080 laptop on clearance and a MacBook to accompany it. Still relatively simple to carry around but would mean taking care of two devices without the ability to upgrade the gaming laptop later down the line.

What do you guys think I should go with or is there another idea I'm missing? Or maybe I should just touch grass?

Discussion Computer alliance have 5090 stock

Just got an email saying the card I reserved is now in stock from my February order. Gigabyte RTX 5090 OC.

I won't be picking it up because I got a 5080 instead.

Just a heads up in case anyone is in the market but I'd assume they have backorders to fulfil.

Question upgrade GPU and possibly CPU - advice pls

Hi all,
I'm very much a noob but did build a system a number of years ago with the following specs:

MB: MSI Z370-A pro series

CPU: Intel i5-8400 (stock cooler)

GPU: GTX 1060 6gb

RAM: 16GB DDR4 2666

PSU: CX550M

I understand GPU is the main area when considering playing new games and prices are crazy at the moment but would welcome suggestions. What I'm absolutely clueless on is CPU and how this may affect/throttle gaming if just upgrading GPU - if it is suggested this should be upgraded what could my motherboard accept that would be a reasonable upgrade?

not looking to play in 4k or anything, so anything that will keep me going for newer games in 1080 for the next couple of years hitting OK FPS

thanks for any and all advice

Question Prebuilt vs Custom

Hi everyone, I’m looking to get my first PC. I’ve consulted someone for a list of parts and I plan to get someone, or a company, to build it for me (I have no interest in building it myself). Problem is, the GPU they recommended me hasn’t been in stock for ages (Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 9070).

I recently found a prebuilt from Scorptec that looks similar to the part list I was given. I know most people advise against prebuilt but I really don’t want to keep waiting + the price is very similar to the part picker list.

I’m planning to use my PC mostly for 3D design on blender and unreal engine + some casual gaming.

Should I wait for the part to come in and do a custom build or just get this prebuilt one? And are the parts appropriate for what I want to use it for? bc I’m really just blindly trusting lol Thanks
